I'm reading up on the MDX and am trying to decide if I should wait for the 2002 or buy a 2001. I'm reading about the problems with this vehicle (thud, windnoise and weeping mirrors seem to be the 3 biggest problems....am I missing anything major?). From what I understand, all 3 of these problems will be fixed for 2002. I know you can't fix the windnoise for 2001, but as far as the thud and mirrors, are those early production problems that have been fixed with end of year 2001 models or will I still have to deal with the thud and mirrors on any 2001? If they fixed these problems during the 2001 year, which month during manufacturing did the fixes take effect? If they weren't fixed in the middle of 2001, are they available as free fixes through the Acura dealer? Will they fix this before I even drive it off the lot? Is there any other major problems I should be aware of? Anything else being fixed for 2002?
Also, has anyone gotten this vehicle below sticker yet? If so, how much off of sticker should I expect? I'm looking at the base model MDX with no options. |

| I think the Thud and the Weeping mirrors are supposedly been fixed on later edition MDX. Try to do search on Vin numbers. I think specific vin numbers has the thud and weepers fixed. As far as lower than MSRP on 2001s, haven't encountered one yet. I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm in line for 2002 but also open/hoping for/to get 2001 with below MSRP (got to be way below). If I were you I'd put a FULLY refundable deposit on 2002 just to get in line and if 2001 shows up with the right price grab it. Good Luck!!! |

Welcome to the forum. As far as problems, I believe Thud is fixed via various TSB. No TSB yet for the weeping mirror problem. Wind noise is not quite a problem for Acura Corp except for some with windshield seal problem. The 02 "will" not have the Thud, problem, new mirror design (to minimize wind noise and hopefully the weeping aspect too), a thicker windshield and more roof insulation to reduce windnoise. Windnoise happened at high speed only, like above 65~70 mph.

My MDX was built in September and I just got my first Thud-although it sounded like a PING! rather than a thud. I hope it is the problem dealers know about and can fix:(
P.S. This first Ping! came at 788 miles when I was in the process of slowing down. |
