I just recently bought a 2004 MDX with NAV and RES. It has 70,000 miles on it. Can anyone tell me if they have had any issues with their 2004 MDX? Also, interested in the side steps, where is the best place to buy them. Also, need to get a hitch put on. Are there any specific brands better then others on the mdx. Do I need to get the coolers put on the power steering and transmission?

Congrats and welcome to the family :7:!!!!!!!!! Tim who is a sponsor of this site has great prices on all the OEM accessories: http://www.hondacuraworld.com/ You can try etrailer.com if you want to go with an aftermarket hitch.

The Search function doesn't work as good as it used to, bu try using it too.

Welcome to the forum! 04's are pretty solid. If you plan on towing alot, adding coolers would be recommended.

congrats, I bought the same one last year, I've got 55,000 miles on it now. No issues, no real complaint, the only thing I have a pet peeve about is that the steering wheel controls (i.e. radio, cruise control buttons) do not illuminate at night. Other then that, best automobile I've ever owned.

The two things I hate about my 04 are the second row seat noise and the hollow sound bang the drivers door makes when you close it

I am enjoying my new 2004 MDX. I have experienced some problems though. When I bought it they were suppose to certify it. WHen I picked up my car they did not have any certification paperwork or the 150 point checklist. Also, when I had the loaner vehicle I was pulled over and received a ticket because they had an expired tag on the vehicle. My MDX was suppose to receive a front end alignment, but when I picked it up it is still pulling hard to the right. I called and let them know and instead of scheduling me an appointment I have to go there and have a mechanic test drive my car on my lunch break. I can't get anyone to give me any information on what warranty may still exist on my vehicle and what it covers. I was told that the passenger seat heater doesn't work but to wait 60 days and then bring it in and report it so it is paid for by the warrenty and not the dealership (again, I have no idea what is on the warranty). And.....I didn't get an owners manual or service history (they claim all the work was done there). I have also detected a slight "come and go" vibration when going 35 and this morning my AC started making some noise.

Panzafit, I am assuming that you purchased the X from an Acura dealer, but I cannot understand them not providing you with the information you requested. Additionally, proper working seat heaters is number 119 on the 150 pt list.

In your paperwork at purchase you should have details of the Acura Care warranty, citing specific end date and mileage. To check this, you can email your vin # to Tim at Ray Laks (hondacuraworld.com) and he can tell you the in-service date of the vehicle for factory warranty purposes, and if the extended warranty is in the system.

I am amazed that you are not provided the service records. When I bought my first X used from an independent used car dealer, the local Acura dealer where the vehicle had been serviced gave me a printout of service, and even let me look through the service tickets to see if there was any recommended service that was not performed.

My suggestion is to have a strong talk with the dealer's general manager, and contact Acura customer service if you are not satisfied with the result.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I did purchase it from an Acura dealership. I will definately email the vin # to Tim @ Ray Laks. It makes me nervous that I have no idea what the warranty is. I am not sure why they will not give me the service records or the 150 point checklist. (By the way will the 150 point checklist tell me things like what % is left on my brake pads and the "score" of the tread on my tires?) They also "fixed" the plastic middle row seat belt holder panel, drivers side but as soon as someone road with me and used the seatbelt the panel popped out again. I am really frustrated that they have not called to let me know what is going on with the traffic ticket as it is MY license that will be suspended if it's not paid. Despite these issues, I love my "new to me" vehicle and hope that these issues can be resolved.

Well I went to the dealership yesterday for them to test drive my car on the claim of needing an alignment again. They agreed and set me up an appointment and then told me a shuttle will take me to work and pick me up when the car was ready. I thought Acura always gave you a loaner car. Is this not the case? I am actually more frustrated now then I was before. They still have not ordered an owners manual, they will only tell me they paid the ticket I received but will not give me any sort of receipt, no one can seem to find my 150 point checklist for certification of the certificate I need to sign (this was the whole reason I took it in last week), I am missing a mud guard since my last service visit and when I inquired about it, again, I was told that "maybe it was never on my car". Also, when I asked the service manager about the service history records I was told that he was unable to print them for me due to confidential information, but, when I asked the technician he printed them out for me immediately. When I inquired about the free floor mats I was suppose to receive with the certification the service manager tried to blame it on the sales person, so I went to see the sales person and he is trying to clear it up. I love my car, but, if this is how Acura operates I may never buy another one again. It's strange, I had no problem in the sales department and in fact have found my salesman the most helpful in this process, but the service people need to get it together.

Your Sales guy needs to fix this for you. Everything you are asking the service manage for is perfectly normal, It sound like he is a jerk and he needs management to sort him out....his focus needs to be customer service or the dealership will suffer.
midnightMDX
As far as a loaner, I'd have to request one when I scheduled an appointment. But every dealer is different. Sometimes it depends on the scope of work being done, sometimes they will give you one no questions asked. You need to keep fighting with your dealership to get what you want. Maybe you should call Acura Customer Service and report your displeasure. Dont let the dealer speak for the product. Theres alot of great dealers and alot of bad ones who dont have a clue.

Re your question if the 150 pt inspection will show % of remaining life, being listed on the sheet varies by dealer, but in your examples, the brake pads are to be replaced if less than 50% remaining life, and the tires are to be replaced if less than 5/32 remaining tread. I do not understand the actions of your dealer. As you can see on the Acura website, you should have received the owners manual, all warranty documents, and everything replaced or repaired when you picked up the car.

As for your loaner question, at the dealer I use major service (basically anything other than oil change) and any warranty work gets a loaner, but you have to schedule it.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I dropped my car off there this morning so they can fix the front end alignment. They have ordered and are replacing the missing mud guard and are giving me my free floor mats. They claim they have ordered an owners manual and will mail it to me when it comes in. Unfortunately this is the result after my husband got involved and threatened them (they tried to give me a bunch of excuses on why I didn't need a front end alignment). My father is a mechanic and I was raised in his shop, so I know a little bit. Anyways, I will post again after I pick my car up this afternoon and let you know how it went. Oh, I do have one mechanical problem. I noticed this morning that my car when I go about 50 seems to "rev up". I noticed the rpm needle kept jumping slightly. It wasn't constant but did it for about 5 minutes, then when I slowed down and went back up to about 50 it did it again. Any suggestions?
polyian
I suggest you call the dealer and have them look at that rev problem while the vehicle is with them. Could be a transmission or torque converter problem so best to get them on it as soon as possible.

It's too bad you've been having problems with your MDX. In reality, it's not Acura but the dealer who operates like that. I have been to two acura dealers they both treated me well. Was on the ball on everything and took care of warraty items. As for loaners, again it's a dealer item. Follow polyian said reg the tach. It could be either the TC or Trans.

Also don't ease up on them.

Well, I picked up my car yesterday and it is finally driving straight. They also gave my my CPO 150 point checklist. Now I'm just trying to straighten out the oil change. I bought the car on August 30th and the sticker for the oil change says it should have had an oil change on August 22nd. They are claiming that they gave it an oil change on April 22nd and put the car on the lot therefore the oil doesn't need changed. Does this sound right? Would the oil still be new because it sat there? Also, this morning I noticed a noice in my front dash. It kinda sounded like a computer booting up for about 5 minutes and then it went away. I had the air conditioner off so I'm not sure what it could have been. Any thoughts?
midnightMDX
If you are unsure about the oil, I would change it. Not sure what that noise you are describing.

" Would the oil still be new because it sat there? "

YES! It is already hundreds of millions of years old. A few months will make no difference.

An oil change sticker for the MDX should read at what odometer reading the oil should be next changed. It is changed on mileage vs time. Actually this applies to any vehicle.

One thing I notice when I first started driving my X is the same situation you explained regarding the rpm increasing, driving down the road.

Unlike some other cars I have driven, my X will unlock the torque converter with almost any increased application of throttle, even just a gentle nudge. This is so even with the cruise control engaged. And this is especially true at speeds close to where the torque converter would ordinarily lock up (45-55 mph). The faster you cruise, the longer the torque converter seems to stay engaged. Because the transmission is so smooth, and the engine is so quiet, about the only way you would notice this is via a bump (maybe 200 rpm) of the tachometer. I think this might be what you are experiencing.

It used to annoy me, but now I've gotten used to it.
panzafit
Ah.... So this is not a bad thing. It had me worried that my torque converter was going or something was wrong witht the transmission. Unfortunately with my experience with my dealer I am now, I think, subconciously looking for problems. Also, I drove my 4 runner for 11 years so getting use to something new will take a little while.

On the lighter side, I am detailing my MDX for the first time this weekend. I have bought Meguairs products. My MDX is white so I'm not sure what kind of shine I will get, but I'm hoping my husband will use it on his bright metallic blue RSX so I can see the result.
