Judge for yourselves.

One side has short term relief vs long term solution, offshore drilling vs your own backyard, pocket change rewards vs more high interest loan, explore nuclear energy vs renewable energy, cut taxes on gas vs give credit to buy fuel-efficient cars ... blah blah blah. More of the same from either side. End result is higher tax & ultimately leads to weaker dollar. At the moment, neither side impresses me in energy proposal.

I have to agree that I am not impressed with either side. We have needed a good long term energy plan in this country for the last 35 years and have not gotten it.

Every time someone comes up with a proposal the "greenies" have been able to block it with some uneducated nonsense. We should have been going full bore with nuclear energy for at least the past 40 years. (I got my degree in nuclear engineering in 1958.) The technology has been there.

We should have seen the future problems in 1973 when the Arabs first raised oil prices. We got concerned for a few minutes and went back to business as usual. We carried jerry cans on our vehicles for long trips and waited in long lines. This memory did not last long. We went right back to the same old nonsense.

We have known that we have vast resources of shale oil but have done nothing to have this resource ready for use.

We have had improved technology for offshore drilling but have done nothing to exploit this either. Can anybody remember the last time there was an oil spill or leak from an offshore oil platform? During WWII the oil spills from oil tankers being sunk by German U Boats was far worse. Yes, there were some tar chunks on the beaches on the Carolinas, but nothing we could not live with. I knew how to clean tar off my toes.

We have subterranean oil leaks now from natural sources. We manage these.

Making more fuel efficient vehicles is a good thing. However, this will only play a small part in the total energy picture. What are we going to do about plastic use. We could do away with plastic bags and go back to paper. The "tree huggers" sould not like that.

I could go on and on with this but got other rants to make.
