I have an 02 MDX and cannot get it duplicated because of a chipped key. Where can I get a chipped key duplicated and how much will it cost?
Thanks |

| Cloned key (including programming) is $46 on Ebay ($10 key + $6 shipping + $30 programming). Seems like the convenience of getting it done at the dealer outweighs the small savings of buying it on Ebay (and then having to arrange a guy to come over and clone your working key). |

got my chipped blank key on eBay for $15.00.
got it cut for $1.00 at the local hardware store
got it programmed for $20.00 at the local pop-a-lock
much cheaper than paying $70 from the dealer for the same key + cutting and programming charges. |

When I bought my car, it only had 1 key so they are sending me a free blank. I just called my local dealer and they want $100 to program the key and $10 to cut!
What type of local shops can program Acura keys? The service rep said they need to hook up the car to some special machine... etc. |

| Hmm... I just called another dealer (a bit further away) and they said if Service dept has to program the key, it would be $100, but if the Parts dept can program the key, it would be a lot less... so I was transferred to the Parts dept and the guy said he could cut and program the key for $10.00 (ten)!!!!! |

Maybe I shouldn't be so hasty with my replies... I just called a third dealer and I'm learning more about this.
Here's the scoop:
There are two style of keys. If you get a key that doesn't have a T5 stamped or engraved on the metal shank, the service dept will need to program the key = $100.
If it does have a T5 on the key, the parts dept can use their computer to program the key and cut for only $10-15 total.
Here's the kicker, the parts guy said a new key through the parts dept will only cost $35 (which includes the programming and cut). You might as well buy a new key from the parts dept if your key doesn't have the T5. |
