Kids in 2nd row and center console A/C - Click HERE for Original Thread

As someone put it in some other thread, he would like a partition to separate himself from all the kids' noise coming from the rear. For me, that partition should also protect the center console A/C outlets and controls.

My kid's car seat is positioned right in the middle of 2nd row, and becoming "big" enough, he found those particular pieces of MDX's interior to be a perfect practice "soccer ball" :(

I would prefer not to move the car seat from its supposedly safest place inside the car, but I do not know how much more abuse those controls (and I) can take.

Any suggestions??? Any similar problems?

Please stay within the legal guidelines. :)

The list of "failed" options:

1. Taking off shoes/sneakers. Worked for a few days only. Aparently the pain of hitting those controls barefooted is not as great as the "pleasure" of watching me turn green after each kick...

2. Threatening with physical retaliation :( I know, I know, not the best "teaching" tool... (well, aparently a threat "The car will bite or kick you back" is not threatening enough)

3. Pleading, promising "goodies" in return, etc. Threatening not to be let into a car ever again or be driven to a favorite place usually has only a temporary effect.

:(:(:(

Any teachers out there???

Or, yes, he is 3 y.o. I guess the "kicking" will pass eventually. Hopefully, the MDX will still be in one piece...

Does he like to go places, or hate the car? If he likes to go, tell him you'll turn the 'X' around at FIRST KICK and be prepared to follow through. Also add that when he gets home, he will go straight to bed and follow through.

Don't try this tactic when you CAN'T follow through...like on the way to preschool or something. On THOSE trips I'd tell him that you'll pull over and move him to the back of the "X" and again follow through.

Condition response...condition response...kind of like training a puppy. :D This works all the way up til they enter double digits...then it's a different kind of battle...usually involving money, social restrictions, etc. :D

Good Luck

I have my 4 1/2 year old in the middle in a jump seat. I love the secure feeling of having him there anchored down by a tether strap. But he too likes to kick the A/C console. It drove me crazy at first. But between the newness of the car wearing off (my "protectiveness" is waning a little) and the fact that he has stopped doing it as frequently, it's not that big of deal any more.

On a side note, he absolutely loves having control over his own A/C and heat.
