I really like the look of the BMW X5, but the MDX does pretty much everything the X5 can do for a lot less, so I got the MDX.

One of the things I'm jealous of is the parking sensors on the BMW's. They have a sweet visual display with bars going from green to orange to red for the front and corners of both back and front bumpers.

Does anyone know of a system with video-out similar to this I could splice into the MDX? There is a couple Video splitters out there that think might be able to split the AUX-in to accomplish this, but I haven't been able to find a sensor system that will do that part of it.

P.S. before you tell me to suck it up and use the backup camera, I'm actually concerned about parking in my smallish garage. I need to park within inches of the wall in front and to the passenger side MDX to allow enough room to get my baby out of the rear driver-side door in his car seat. That and the wife always makes me do it, I don't want her to have the excuse anymore :) I'd happily pay up to $1,500 for a solution like this installed, re-spraying bumpers or doors is super expensive so I'd be willing to sink some cash into a good aftermarket system.

$1,500 for a custom system?! Totally not worth it.

You can do anything from tennis ball on a string, to something like a system mounted on the wall, that will tell you how far..

or a stop mat like this

thanks for the budget ideas but I'm looking for a really slick, integrated solution. It's not just at home that I need to really get up close to things, it's at multiple customer sites, friends places and when we go into the city as well.

why not use the acura sensors. Yes you only get the rears but used in conjunction with the backup camera and the beeping notification that is about as slick and integrated as you are ever going to get.

I need to know how close I am to the wall at the side and front of the car. If I don't park about four inches away from it then I can't get the baby in his seat out the other side easily. I know I can use the audio but it's not very helpful for telling you the contour of things or tracking multiple objects. My friends' Bimmer shows when you're getting close to objects in front and behind. It's like the arrows on the Valentine One - everyone else just goes BEEEEP :)

Then I highly suggest you buy a Lexus or Mercedes.

They are the only front loaded parking sensors I know on the market today on SUV's. I have them on my LS430 and love them. No need on the MDX though. The front is not nearly long enough for this kind of system.

You need to get an LX570 with the front camera system, or the Infiniti EX35 with the side of car camera system.

Or just take the time to get adjusted to the size of the car and learning how to judge its dimensions.
