I am looking to putting a DVD player in a 2007 MDX i just bought. Can anyone tell me if they have had one installed and if so what brand did you buy? Was it an overhead or a headrest DVD? I have been told that you can not get an overhead installed in a 2007 and I am not sure if this particular installer knows what he is talking about.
Little Help?? |

You can install an overhead in any car, even with sunroof-moon-roof. It depends on the professionalism of your installer. I just got the Alpine PKG-RSE2 installed, but on a different car with sunroof. Installer did not even use the bulky housing for it. here is a link http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/pro...?model=PKG-RSE2 could not resist the price $599 plus install. And that is a $900 unit. Quality is amazing, but comes only with one set of headphones additional set is something like $25. I would not go with headrest units, they are smaller like 6" VS 10", plus they are more expensive. The only positive thing IMO is that they can play different movies for each passenger. But with overhead all 2 back rows enjoy it and not just 2 people.
The most difficult car to install an overhead is Volvo XC90, with MDX there shouldn't be any issues. Your audio system can be used to play the sound from the overhead or headphones can be used for that.
There are a lot of other units for sale, do not go with the cheap stuff been there done that, had to change to a quality stuff eventually.
Hope that helps. |

what kind of problems did you have with the cheap units? Which cheap unit do you have experience with. I've been tempted by some of the inexpensive units I have seen. But I have waited because I am concerned with the installation. |

Invision unit is an aftermarket stuff, that matches the interior. Had 2 units, both gave up on me. They work for 2 days and then rest for a week. First was exchanged under the warranty, was like that out of the box. The substitute started to do the same thing after 8 month. Had Pyle overhead - 3 units were defective, so that was the sign from above to choose something else. Went with Power Acoustik 10.4 beautiful unit. slim, good quality screen, plays everything that you put in, the only issue - it will not play anything in the winter time until it gets warm in the car. So the soldering is crappy and Power Acoustik was reluctant to help. Those units are only $200 cheaper. And remember you get what you are paying for. Plus they are all made at the same factory just branded differently (I saw the inside)
I always had overhead units in our cars. So when the Invision gave up on me for the second time, but was still under warranty, I just took it to the dump and got Alpine and added a 3 year warranty for $60 to that $599 tag. Just in case :) So to sum up the screen is amazing, the menu is good too. No complains so far.
The funny part is that I was on a fence between Invision and Alpine from the beginning. Invision was $100 cheaper, was the perfect color match and had TV tuner, that were the reasons to go with it. Now I had to reinstall it, pay for Alpine. Plus in couple month TV tuners will be worthless. So if you are sure you want to save 100 -200 think twice, there is a reason that they are sold for that price. You can install it in a cheap car, but if you found some cash to get MDX I would go with Alpine for sure to match the quality :) |

Since here in Mexico Acura doesn't offer the Tech package, we also can't get the stock dvd player.
So we have to get what the Dealer offered. It is a SAVV unit. I think it is a very good unit so far (11 months). It has all the standar options of any dvd player: two wireless headphones, variable fm transmitter, multiregion dvd playback, plentiful of settings, a/v input. And you can add the tv tuner. The controls on the unit also matches the blue color leds lighting of the X. Almost forgot, it's an overhead unit. |

| I have had the Alpine unit in our -04 MDX touring for 3 months now and it has worked flawless no problem what so ever. I bought 2 more headset's from Chrutchfield since the dealer i bought the Alpine from said they were discountinued. Of course they were not. They did not do that great of a job installing it for us but i'm working on getting it right. |
