Hey, well all of a sudden this morning on the way to work, my error msg just went on on my little screen near the gauges, and it says Check Airbag System, i have no idea why, i tried turning the car OFF and than back ON, and still no luck :( i have no idea why :(
recent modifications to the car that were done are:
Remote Starter (viper)
Unlock the Nav Screen to play movies through a dvd player
JL Subwoofer 13w7 with a JL AMP
HID's in Fog Light
those are the mechanical mods that were done, everything was fine for a few days, but everything just started this morning with the error msg :(
anyone know any particular reason as to why i would be getting this msg in the 1st place ? and also where are the airbag sensors located? if you take off your bumper, on each side, there are alittle black boxes that are attached to a bracket that is attached to the chassey i think, what are those? |

| Did you put anything on a front passenger seat? Sometimes it might trigger the error message due to the system error. |

| i had my jacket on the passanger side, but than as soon as i got the msg, i took it off and put it on my backseat, turned the car off and car back on, and idk :( |

Is the sub amp under the front seat? That would be a place to start.
HID's and remote starter install could have done it too. Anything that disturbed either the wires or the sensors could have done it.
It's going to be impossible to trouble shoot something like this without going through the airbag diagnostic steps, including the codes that have been thown. |

Hey just an update...
just got back from the dealership, seems to be fine for now, no errors as of yet, we'll see how it goes, they ran a diagnostic flow chart and everything seems to be fine + more....
+ more:
before i came to the dealership with this problem, my driver side mirror did not point down automatically when in REVERSE....now, as i left the dealership and went to park, put the car in reverse, and i was surprised, the mirror went down by it self....i dont know if every mdx has that and they just cleared the error...but i never had that before, i got the car 3 weeks ago or so, and today is the 1st time it has happaned....just curious guys...does this come standard on all MDX's? |

The mirror shifting down is based on the position of the switch that controls left/right mirror adjustment.
If the switch is on the left, when you put the truck in reverse that mirror will shift down, switch to the right, the right mirror, switch in the middle, neither will tilt down.
The manual is really big with this and current cars, and worth taking the time to find little features such as this. |

| The PASSENGER mirror should tilt down when in reverse on older Touring models but I can't recall if you can choose which side on the newer gen. Gotta look it up in the manual. |

| not sure, but right now, my driver side mirror tilts down, i have no idea why or whatnot, but i dont even know if its standard, because mine didnt do so before, only after today when i went to the dealership with an airbag msg problem....so i dont know.... |

See that little switch over there to the left of the steerign wheel, just above the mirror tilt control? if it's to the left, that means the left mirror will be adjusted when you move the mirror tilt control. It also means that when you back up, the left mirror will tilt down. It its to the right, the right side mirror will tilt down.
If you drove into the dealer with the switch in teh middle, neither mirror would tilt down.
Here's one- if you back up with the front wipers on, the rear wipers turn on steady! How cool is that? |
