Hi, I'm new the forum and looking to buy a 2005-2006 MDX. I've looked all over and can't find a detailed list of what the Touring package adds to the MDX, could someone point me in the right direction. I know the wheels and stereo are upgraded, but that's all I can find.

Also, is the bluetooth integration standard on the Touring? Thanks,

Derek

Here ya go:

Touring models add a roof rack, a rear wiper, a power front-passenger seat, a driver-seat memory feature, a Bluetooth hands-free cell phone interface and an upgraded audio system with an in-dash six-CD changer. Ordering the Touring model also allows you to specify the optional DVD-based navigation system (with voice recognition and a rearview video camera), the DVD entertainment system for rear passengers, or both.

The Acura MDX returns for 2006 with a 3.5L 253-hp V6 engine

It lost power in its last year? (That is the last year of gen 1)

Isnt 253 the torque?
Skoobahead
"New SAE testing procedures drop the MDX's horsepower rating from 265 to 253 on the 2006 model."

Same power just rated a little lower. Doesn't matter...plenty of power

Ah yea thats right, its those new ratings.

I think the non-touring models also have the rear wiper... I haven't seen an MDX without it.

So, is there a version (04~06) that comes with the nav system and ceiling mounted DVD player standard? I am looking for an 04 or newer because I want the side-curtain airbags and don't think the 03's or earlier models came with them. Also, did any 1st gen MDX's come with a trailer hitch standard? And finally, my last question - I promise - how does the factory nav system compare to aftermarket units like Tom Tom's and Garmins? I realize the advantages of an integrated unit but still, nav-DVD renewals can be expensive, right?

Yes, 03 and up had RES as an option. Nope the tow hitch is an option and not standard. The factory NAV system may not be as fancy as the latest portable units but it is still one of the easiest and most intuitive to work with among all the ones I have used, including Toyota, Mercedes, and BMW. NAV discs from acuranavi.com are around $185 a disc plus shipping. You don't have to have the latest disc each year - every 2 to 3 years would be OK.

You can use the VIN to quickly determine if an MDX for sale has a DVD, a RES (Nav), or both. Every MDX, at least thru the 2006 model year, has the same first 8 characters in its VIN: 2HNYD18. Check out the 9th character, and that will give you some instant insight into the MDX you are looking at:

2 = Base
4 = Base with Navi (2001 only)
6 = Touring
7 = Touring with RES
8 = Touring with Navi
9 = Touring with Nav+RES

I have an 04 Touring with Nav (with aftermarket rear DVD). I love my nav, I have to admit but right now mine is on the blink which sort of makes me wish I just bought a Garmin. So as long as it works, the in-dash is great. And I was still using the original nav DVD (that came with it in 04.)
