Hello all!

Trying to get an early jump on Jack Frost and get a new set of winter wheels and tires... but finding a pothole in the road of information with regards to after-market wheels and compatability with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Information that I am working with...
- OEM Wheels are much more expensive than basic "aftermarket"
- Winter tires are better in the 17" size (vs. 18" stock rims that I have)
- OEM TPM Sensors may or may not work on aftermarket wheels
- Without TPM Sensors, the dashboard indicator will remain lit

What is everyone doing for winter wheels?

Anyone buy the package from Tirerack.com with the TPMS installed? Is it easy to "pair" them with the car? or do you have to go to the dealer?

Anyone have experience with wheels not accomodating the TPM sensors?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You may have some luck getting stock 07+ Honda Odyssey 17" wheels with TPMS as they share virtually the same load factors (the Ody is pretty heavy) and can work with the MDX TPMS system but you do have to get snow tires.

I handled that problem very easily many, many years ago. I moved to climate where hey are not necessary!

Thanks dj-mdx2 for the thought... I'll follow up with that.
G... wouldn't it be nice if we could all move to Florida, eh?

The 09 Pilot also has 17x7.5 with 5x120 bolt pattern and looks similar to the Sport wheels. Not sure about the offset so you may need to change tires.

NO IT WOULD NOT!!!!!

Stay away! You would miss the snow. It is too hot here. Too many bugs. Too much sand tracked into the house.

Unless you go up to Whistler, etc, winter tires in Van are not worth it for 3-4 days of snow a year. I am going with 17" rims w/235 tires and TPMS from Tire Rack.

Anybody know whether the pairing of new wheels is automatic? My dealer says yes but I want to be sure before I spend money on winter wheels and TPMSD sensors. Thx
