| I used to go to one Acura dealership and they put a sticker on the upper left corner of my windshield to remind me of my next oil change. I had it every 5000 kilometers or 3 months whichever comes first. I then tried this other Acura dealership and they had it at 8000 kilometers or around 5 months. On my last 4 oil changes, they changed it to 5000 kilometers or 3 months. Not too sure which one I should follow. |

| The most agree upon interval is 3 months or 3,000 miles. Which ever comes first. |

| Depends on the type of oil. You could always call each dealership and ask why. 5000km(3000 miles) is what they recommend, but its not unreasonable to wait til 8000km(5000 miles) to change it. |

Most folks that REGULARLY change oil, due it too frequently. Unless you're doing stop and go most of the time, the longer interval is fine.
I know I can hear the flames that it's not that much to do, da da da da....
But why waste good oil these days? |

I use conventional oil and I take the highway 80% of the time. I don't do hard driving and the route I take is not dusty. |

| I like to change my oil at 5,000 mile intervals. It's easier to recognize on the odometer this way. |

If you are driving an MDX then follow the manual if an older MDX. If a newer MDX the computer will tell you when to change the oil.
In the older MDX the old is changed, for normal driving, every 7,500 miles. Oil is NOT CHANGED based upon time. Time does not harm the millions of years old oil. The only way it is "used" is by driving.

I do the same. I have always believed that retail establishments recommend an oil change every 3,000 miles to increase revenue. |

| I change my oil every 4000 miles. After each oil change, I reset my Trip Meter B so that I don't have to mentally keep track. |

I change my 2003 every 3000 miles. Same for all my cars for the past 10 years.
If you take a look at the oil, it's pretty dark already at 3000 miles. Doing this seems to avoid a lot of problems for the engine and emission system. I believe this is the cheapest way to keep your car healthy. |

anyone care to flip the owner's manual ? :readit:
you can't judge oil by color or smell, and 3k/3month is long gone. It's not applicable any more to modern day engines and oils. |

I actually found the time to check the manual and it stays $7500 miles instead of $3000 miles as said by G. It actually gives me a good feeling as I am now over $3000 miles since my last oil change but is still well under $7500 miles. I am not that worried anymore that I am not giving it a proper maintenance that would result in premature engine breakdown. I get to save a little bit of change here. |

The 3,000 mile oil change interval is an old school belief... but remember with longer change intervals, be sure to periodically check your oil level.
It's difficult to say if 3k, 5k, or whatever interval is right for your car given that each engine's overall condition, individual driving style, and driving environment are different. To properly assess if the oil is still "good" at your desired change interval, send a sample of it to a lab to run a Used Oil Analysis.

This thread was just I was searching for and just in time too since I'm used to changing oil with my cars at every 6000KM/3750mile mark.
My X is nearing the first of that mark but my MM only says 50% and was getting all worried and concerned. But having read this and a few other threads, I guess I should leave the factory oil in for its additive benefits until about MM shows about 10% or so.
What I was wondering though was, after the first oil change, despite what my MM tells me from then on, would it be excessively anal to adhere to and perform the severe conditions maintenance schedule of the previous generation X's manual, which I believe is changing oil every 6000KM/3750mile mark? Of course, you've got your tranny and the "differential" fluid changes as well in there.
Someone can correct me if that's not what the previous gen X's severe condition maintenance recommended, but I'm going by what my '03 Pilot's manual stated. |

With syn, you could probably change it every 10K miles and change the filter every 5000. $.02. |

| i have a question on that subject also i dont drive alot i think i may have put 6000 miles on my trk in about 18 months so i dont change my oil as often does it matter or whats more important should i change at 3months regardless of mileage or eats the maximum you would go before changing due to the minimal driving i by the way i have another car thats why the mileage is the way it is |

My 02 manual states that Canadian cars must use the severe maintenance schedule and change the oil every 6000 KM (4000 miles).
Here in Victoria, or in Vancouver where you are, the weather is similar to Seattle so I don't understand this blanket statement for Canada. When I asked the dealer I was told to follow the manual if I wanted my extended warranty covered. I would say the weather is much more severe in many northern States so this seems stupid.
So Mobil 1 synthetic goes in every 6000 KM with a new S2000 (PCX-004) oil filter. I rotate the tires every second change.
Neither of your Vancouver dealer's 5000KM or 8000KM are correct numbers. Check your owners manual and follow it. |

In your situation I would probably change the oil once per year, regardless of the mileage. Just for the Heck of it.
I WOULD NOT change it every three months. Oil does not get old just sitting there. Think of the millions of years it just sat in the earth before it was pumped out. Rather on oversimplified statement, but you get the idea.

I use AMSOIL 100% Synthetic oil and filter and only change my oil once a year. For this oil and filter combo under normal driving conditions it will run 25,000 miles or 1 year, under severe 15,000 miles or 1 year. The oil and filter cost a little more but I believe that you get it back in the time you save. One great thing about the X is that, at least for mine, it doesn't burn a drop of oil so I am good to go.
Just my .02c,
