Full-size spare "installation" - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just put in the full size spare this weekend, wanted to share some pictures to show the final product for those thinking of "upgrading."

Thanks to PeterC0523 for the lightly-used OEM Michelin tire at a great price. Got the beat-up tech rim off ebay for $55 or so, and from recommendations of the board, got a spare tire cover as well ($17 shipped through auto zone -- get the extra large that covers 33 inches and 11.5 inches deep). Mounting the tire was $10 at a local Tire Barn.

Full-size definitely instills more confidence than the relatively small spare.

Just fits nicely without touching the garnish.

A comparison of pre and post rear views. Sticks out from the bottom but with the tire cover it's at least a cleaner appearance.

Wow, this is a great idea! Did you have to do anything special to fit it in? Anything at all?

Do not need to do anything special as you are supposed to put the full size flat tire in that space if you have to use the spare.

I thought I read somewhere that certain aftermarket hitches will not allow a full size spare to fit; however, I'm not 100% sure about that.

I believe only the OEM hitch allows for full-size spare. For people who installed aftermarket hitches, it will be a PITA to store the flat tire in the cargo area if they ever get a flat...especially if they're out on a long trip full luggage and gear!

By virture of being a "FLAT" tire, the full size FLAT spare tire will fit in the spare tire space even if equipped with an aftermarket hitch.

Thanks for the info on the spare tire cover. I've been looking for one.

I couldn't deal with seeing the tire under the garnish, but if you like the peace of mind that's all that counts!

Nice work on the install.

Thanks for the feedback.

Got 2 more OEM tires for sale if anyone else is considering getting a FSS.
