We live in Vancouver and it snows around Dec and usually doesn't last but a few days. However, during the first 2 days the roads are a little slick. Without having to go with full snow tires, do any of you fellas have any advice on how to travel downhills without using your brakes? If you did, it would slide....

Put your MDX in a lower gear.
As the MDX is front wheel biased, always keep a little pressure on the front wheels. This means always giving the car a bit of gas.
Remember with front wheel, you "pull" a car through snow while with rear wheel you "push" a car through snow. As you are pulling, having power to the front wheels aids steering.

I manually downshift mine in the snow all the time. Its a great way to control speed on hills. I frequently use 3,2 and 1 on slippery, snowy hills.

Which gear to use in snow is not that important since the MDX has VSA installed and enabled by default. However, one should use higher gear instead of lower gear on slippy road, i.e., starting at 2nd gear. This is because the output of lower gear is higher which will cause the wheel spin over the snow and lose the traction.
