I didn't find a topic covered so here is my question...
Should I take my MDX in for the FIRST OIL CHANGE at 3000 or should I look at the oil life monitor?
Only reason I'm asking is the Dealer sent me a letter asking me to bring it in for an oil change because the first 3 months it is necessary to have it done sooner.
However, the dealer does not know that I paid $99 for free oil change for 2 years so I wonder if they will honor that. :) As the agreement for that states different mileage for that. (Don't recall) |

do it when the car tells you to. It'll save you money and as well keep the car in check..

It's even more important for the first oil change. The oil has different additives in the first charge. Use the Maint. Minder and wait until you're at least down to near 0%.

Changed mine at around 5500 miles when the car told me. Do what others have suggested and wait.

OK, great. Thanks for the feedback. I will wait until my car tells me to in that case.

+4 - do it when the car tells you. There is a special additive in the engine oil from the factory that helps it break in safely. I'm sure the dealer just purchased some fancy little computer program that was supposed to maximize their profits without taking into account the vehicle owners pocketbook or the actual needs of the car.

If you are doing it yourself get prepared for a mess. The oil comes out of the sump hole and hits a splash guard. In my case the splash guard caused a 9" pie plate splash of oil that went everywhere. My next change i am going to come up with a better splashguard/diverter.

Has anyone ever used an oil extractor in the MDX?
