Took the Zoomer in for its 12,000km service today, and got to chatting with a (new) sales rep at the dealership. He gave me an '02 brochure. Here's what I noticed (please remember we're talking the Canadian version here - equivalent to a Touring w/ no Nav.):
* Price is CDN $48,000 ($1,000 more than '01).
* PDI is $950 (same).
* Colour choices remain exactly as '01: Nighthawk Black Pearl w/Ebony; Starlight Silver w/Ebony; Mesa Beige w/Saddle; Evergreen Pearl w/Saddle; and Dark Mahogany Pearl w/Ebony. So, in Canada, forget about Redrock Pearl or Havesu Blue or whatever newer colours you folks in the States are looking forward to. Also, no Granite Green, and no Saddle with Nighthawk.
* Spec list does mention "Rear intermittent wiper with washer jet".
* Same powertrain as '01.
* Roof rack seems to be in same position as '01.
* Hard to tell if mirrors are different.
* I can't see any differences in the interior pictures. Indeed, many of the pictures in the '02 brochure seem identical to the ones in the '01.
* No mention anywhere of any "non-cosmetic" improvements, such as thicker windshield, insulated A-pillars, improved dead-pedal (although, as pointed out in another thread, you wouldn't expect to see these in a brochure).
I also talked to the Service Manager and touched on the following:
* Mirror Weep TSB: he was completely unaware of its existence. I pointed out that I had seen an actual copy of it on this site. He indicated that it may be US-specific only (i.e., issued by Acura USA and not applicable to Canada. Tim, perhaps you can comment on whether this is plausible).
* Has received the Moonroof wind noise TSB, but says no customers have come in with complaints about that. Interestingly, as the tech was finishing up servicing the Zoomer, I asked him what kind of issues he's had to address on the vehicle in the past year. You guessed it: he mentioned moonroof wind noise complaints!!! Otherwise, no complaints.
* Service Manager says we're 3 years away from the Nav in Canada. Sales rep had told me 12 months just 15 minutes earlier. Latter also said that Acura (!) needed to send up another satellite for the Nav to work in Canada. It was all I could do to stop from having the milk I was drinking come out of my nose!!!!
* I asked the sales rep why the colour offerings were so different. He said that Canadian models were made in Aliston, Ontario, while the US models were made in Illinois. This time I couldn't let it pass without a challenge -- I reminded him that ALL X's are made in Aliston, and that a plant in Alabama was slated for X production. He then backtracked by saying that US models are sent to a plant in Illinois for some "tweaking". By this time, the "fast-talking, try-to-cover-your-weaknesses-by-bull****ting" approach caught up with him, and I told myself that I wouldn't trust this guy on anything.
* He quickly changed the subject by asking me if I'd received my Acura survey yet. I told him I had filled it out and sent it in; he winced when I told him that, and went on to explain that I should have brought it in to the dealership and have them send it in for me. He sensed I was intrigued by this, and went on to say, and I quote, "We like to bribe you with the survey by giving you trinkets like coffee mugs, etc., if you bring it in here vs. sending it in yourself; that way, Acura Canada can see that customers are coming back to the dealership as repeat customers, and we get marks for that". I decided at that point that I could converse more intelligently with the receptionist, and I was right....For you folks in Calgary, the rep's name is Al "Cat" Robinson, and he's at Northwest Acura. |

Isn't the 5 mph Bumpers listing missing from the new brochure?
It was listed in the 2001 brochure under Exterior Features, I believe.
Does anyone know if this is this a change for 2002? |

Ever since I've ordered my 2002 MDX, I've been checking this forum on a regular basis, and have found it very informative. I thought that it was probably time I joined in on some discussion, especially after seeing that there are at least a couple of fellow Calgarians in the group.
Pierre, you posted a very interesting story, and I was somewhat relieved to see that I ordered my vehicle from the "other" dealer in the south. I do have a friend though, who has been dealing with "the Cat" and has been very annoyed by him.
On the other hand, I do have a question about delivery and dealer's promises. I ordered my 2002 in the first week of September, and have been patiently waiting ever since. After reading about build dates in this forum, I called my dealer last week to ask him when I can expect my vehicle. It sounded like he went to ask the manager, and when he came back a minute later, he told me that I would have delivery in the last week of November (apparently I moved up a bit in the waiting list due to some cancellations). I'm hoping he is not making this up, but have any other members been promised such a delivery date? And how much faith should I put in his estimate? Just looking for some comfort. |

Bertzuni:
Not sure if things move faster in Canada, but my timeframe is much longer than yours. I placed my order at the end of July. I called my dealer over the weekend and was told that February was a likely delivery date. (He, too, put me on hold, but was simply checking his order lists.) He said that date could also move up with cancellations, buyers opting into 2001s, monthly allocation changes, etc.
I'd be very happy to hear that November is my delivery date. I'm assuming you were told the truth...

It just depends on how many orders with your specific model are before you and how many MDX's your dealer gets. Most of these on my dealer report below with build dates before 11/20 should be on our lot in November, Usually takes about 10-14 days from build date to the store, actually by 10 days most of the time.

As far as the TSB on the mirrors, Acura of America is separate from Acura of Canada, I'm sure they may do one but the Canadian dealers cannot do the work until approved by Acura of Canada, and they get the TSB. At least not if they want to get paid. That is also why made for Canada MDX's bought in the USA lose all warranties and any recalls. |

Hey Roger,
Thanks for the info, another quick question- can you buy an MDX in Canada, bring it to the US and buy an extended warranty that will be valid in the US? Thanks. |

Got my new brochure this morning and wanted to see what the restyled mirrors looked like. Of course then i saw that all the pics were carry-overs from the 2001 brochure.
What a wealth of information they are!

gokings55,
Yes, but the extended warranties I have seen are not as good as the factory warranty. And none cover recalls. You have to drive back to Canada for recalls. We won't buy them. The dealers that are buying them are charging about the same as the US ones, then adding and extended warranty. It would have to be a real good deal to make it worthwhile. |

Thanks Roger,
That explains why I saw a couple of good deals on e-bay of brokers from North NY selling imported MDX's from Canada. |
