Beside the fact that the numbers were all over the place, our X averages 7.5 secs from 0-60. Ain't half bad for a 4500 lbs CUV. My next project (as soon as I get a good digital timer) is to test my baby from 0-60 myself.

Peace.

What does it matter?

Is someone thinking of entering the X in a drag race?

What matters in a road vehicle is how good is the acceleration in a passing situation.

I have to agree with the esteemed Mssr. Colton on this one. With the exception of highway on-ramps, 0-60 is pretty much meaningless for me. That said, this is the accepted rubric for measuring a car's performance, so there is some legitimacy to this benchmark.

IMO, passing power is one area that the MDX acquits itself admirably fair. It's in these situations where the relatively high-strung engine pulls its weight, so to speak. In the C&D comparo, it tied with the V8-powered Cadillac SRX and Volvo XC90 V8 in 50-70mph passing times -- not bad for an anemic V6 (and FWIW, only the aforementioned SRX beat it to 60 with a time of 6.4s).

Anyway, be sure to post your results once you get your timing equipment, LS. See if you can time both full-auto, and SportShift times.

Regards,
Adam

PS - Way to go with the research there, LS!

You guys missing the whole point (well, sort of except for craniotes & Fab). Have you all missed this statement completely,) ... the numbers were all over the place.)?

All of their test results are more less INACCURATE, IMO. Some are in the low 6's, some in low 8's. A TWO seconds difference in 0-60 is huge, HUGE. How on earth can you have such differential numbers on the same car. Do they really know what they're doing? The MDX is a family car & by all mean it is not fit for racing. If they were to post some studies, don't you think it should be somewhat relevant & close to proximity? This is why I shall test the X myself.

Peace.
Fabvsix
Let us know YOUR accurate results as I'm interested in this.......:1:

Cant wait to see some results. Will you be testing a second mdx for comparable results? Theres so many variables with drivers, vehicles, conditions. You should go to the track and run a 1/4 mile. :p

and while at the track, lower psi, remove spare, have a gallon or two of fuel and don't eat that day........give me a break.......

Beside in the process of getting at least 3 different timing equipments, I've managed my first test yesterday Friday morning at 10am. I shall have a full report of each equipment with their result at a later stage. Anyhow, IMPRESSIVE is all I can say. From 0-60mph, my reading shows 6.6 seconds. WOW!

Mind you, I've owned a '07 MDX Tech steel blue for a year before I got this black sport. The steel blue has been slower & can never achieve this amazing pick-up speed. Same applies for the black sport until right after the KN filter.

P.S. At the testing time, the AC was on, windows closed with 2 people in the X.

As an old International rally driver...I mostly agree with LIONSPEED!

IMHO - The 0-60mph Test depends on so many factors and mainly on the driver and the way he pushes down thro' the gear changes Auto/Manual etc...

One more thing...I have had to really push it in a few times, to get onto a fast freeway moving at 70-80mph and it has performed ADMIRABLY!

Once, I had to quckly pass a set of 3, 18 wheelers in a passing zone, to get back into a no passing lane, and I let it in and boy was I SURPRISED! I also loved the roar of the engine...sound it lets out is...GRRRRREAT!

Try it when you are safe somewhere and push it in...you will be surprised by this 300HP beast!

yup! I love the sound of those valves wide open dumping fuel and air into that big V6 - its' almost as cool sounding as a turbo-charged Subaru flat four at full throttle

Speaking dragging, is it just me, or do you find that when you're in your X and you're the first waiting at a red light and another car's beside you, most of the time the driver wants to drag you?

I found all sorts of cars, SUVs and trucks trying to peel off their line when the light turns green when I'm beside them. I'm not saying that it happens every single time when I'm the first at the red light, but I'd say at least half the time, I find the driver beside me just giving it to their car off the line.

The demographic of the drivers I've described is unmistakably your typical early 20 male and also largely depends on what they drive as well.

I don't care to oblige them of course, but I just find it amusing that they feel the need to drag the X.

But one of my buddies never lets anyone beat him when he's in a similar situation. I asked him once why he feels the need to beat the other car all the time like that and his simple reply was, "Why should the other driver feel good at my expense?"

He'd probably change once he gets married and has children.

I wouldn't mind looking into a perfomance computer 'CHIP' (for the 2nd generation X) and/or any other aftermarket performance parts (once they become available if they haven't aready) that will boost the standard 300 HP to--->
400 or more TOTAL HORSEPOWER....

This inquiry directly stems from a recent incident which involved a traffic light stand off- afterwhich I was completely blown away, owned, figuratively raped, and embarassed by some rich bastard (probably a Chicago Bears or Chicago Bulls athelete) flooring an Aston Martin (don't know which model but I clearly remember the view of the back of it getting smaller and smaller...and smaller)

*This would of course be at some point in the distant future (once the standard 3 year/50K mile warranty has expired)

The extra 100 HP would at least offer me some diginity while squaring off with any more of these 6 figure + street legal race breed cars in the future... for now, my 2nd generation MDX can actually and suprisingly compete against and/or beat the majority of the cars I end up 'racing' against on the streets....

Can't say that ever happends to me, especially in the MDX:confused:

It happened to me once and I handed the little punk his A$$. He was in an integra and shifting hard, but again when he shifted to 2nd, I leaped a full car distance and his face was WTF????? Btw I was in D4....:1:

Am I the only one who really can't understand why anyone would be street-racing their MDX?

4500+ lb. SUVs with less than 280 lb.-ft. of naturally-aspirated torque don't make good stoplight grand prix machines....

The MDX accelerates well enough......considering what it is.

(FWIW, my finely-tuned butt dyno suggests mid 7s 0-60...;-)

Yeah Fabvsix. What the hell were you thinking, racing the 4500 lbs SUV like that? Try to race with LionSpeed next time & the table will turn around on ya. MUAUHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHA.

BTW zcd2.7t, when I tested in comfort mode, it ran slower than sport mode? ;)

I take this as a challenge. If you had known long enough, you would then know that I will never turn down a respectable challenge. ;)

My bet is on ISH. CJ will come in as 2nd. :2:

P.S. Never been in San Francisco before. Love to visit soon. Sounds like the race is on.

That was probably due to excessive 4500 lb weight transfer to the rear, causing the front wheels to spin, if not lift off the ground completely!!.... /sarcasm

Yes, Chicago currently has a serious problem with people (large % gang related) casually killing other people...it's gotten so bad, that the Al Capone era is beginning to look tame...

I live downtown and am surrounded by yuppies, beamers, sushi restaurants & wine bars on every corner along with a plethora of Gucci purse owning blondes who regularly watch 'The Hills'.

Venture (predominantly) a few miles South or West into the African American projects/ghettos or Latino barrios respectively, and it's like stepping into a time machine somewhat reminiscent of 'Boyz In The Hood' and/or 'Colors'- just be sure to drive real fast and to blow all red lights until you no longer see 'Latin Kings', 'Gangster Disciples' or 'Kill Whitey' scribbled along the walls).
