what is the Kelvin Temperature and the brand of the stock bulb in the HID low beam of 08 MDX? Has anyone upgraded to after market bulbs for low beams? Is it easy to replace? Is it ok to replace to between 5000k-6000k?

Stock is 4300k. It produces the whitest and brightest light and is optimum for HID lights. You can go higher, but the light output will be reduced.

The Kelvin temperature of a light source (in this case an HID bulb) does not refer to the heat produced or the light output of the bulb. Kelvin temperature here refers to the quality of light output. 4300K bulb is about the same as the output of the sun, or pure white light. Higher than 4300K produces a light output that is more blue. 8000K is almost purple. A 3000K bulb is is closer to what a standard headlight bulb produces, a bit more yellow output.

To achieve a 6000K HID bulb, the manufacture tints the bulb blue. The result is that the beam produced is more blue, and substantially reduced brightness. The brightest and whitest HID bulb is untinted at about 4300K.

Lesson here is a higher Kelvin temperature HID bulb is not necessarily better, unless you are willing to sacrifice light output for a blue or purple (rice) color. If you want the brightest and purest white color, stick with what came with the car.
