I had an accident that resulted in the Insurance company replacing one of my Struts on my MDX that has 115k miles.
I know one of my rear shocks is also leaking oil.
So, I am definitely going to replace the other strut and both rear shocks.
My question is:
Are there “heavy Duty” shocks that will better suite my use of the MDX since I frequently overload it if for long trips? |

What are you carrying that you consider the vehicle overloaded?

It does not take much.
Couple bikes, camping gear, couple more people, Dog ect |

Unless you are including in the camping gear a few hundred pounds of diving weights, what you have listed should not overload any decent condition MDX.

60 lbs worth of bikes leveraging on the hitch
200-300 worth of gear
3-4 200 lb people |

| Just food for thought... there are plenty of heavy duty shocks out there... but understand that they'll come with a compromise to regular load daily driving. If you'll be carrying regular load the majority of the time, I'd stick with stock specs. |

Something to consider-
Changing to heavy duty shocks will not increase load carrying limits. The suspension engineers at Honda have already speced out and tested components (springs, shocks, bushings, etc) that insure safe and accurate handling and braking performance at the vehicle's limits.
I would have to be absolutely sure that any after market suspension components would be up to the job before I bolted them to my X. The problem is, besides advertising claims, how can you forecast performance of any non Honda parts? |
