I noticed my 08 MDX when parked on a slope facing upward or downward. It's a hard to shift from PARK to DRIVE and I can feel the shifting of the gear. Has anyone experience this? I do not encounter this on my other car.

what keeps any car in park is a simple metal block that is maybe 1/2 inch around and 1 inch long. When you park on a hill the entire weight of the car rests on it, and when you pull it out of park, the little piece has so much strain on it that it takes more effort to move it. Your best bet when parking on a hill is:

Drive -> neutral ->engage parking brake -> let go of foot brake and let the car roll onto the parking brake -> press foot brake -> move to park.

thanks for replying. but i never experienced this in my other car parking on the same spot. the slope is not that steep..just around 5 - 10 degrees slope.not only park to drive..even shifting to reverse

over time if you don't use your parking break instead of using your transmission you'll start hearing loud clacking noises too! Use the parking brake as stated here......:1:

Get in the habit NOW of always using the parking brake WHENEVER you park. That way you will not have to remember it when on a hill. ALWAYS have the vehicle load on the parking brake before removing your right foot from the standard brake pedal.

This will save you a lot of money in transmission repairs.

Attax: lets try it again.
1 stop the vehicle
2. put it in "N"
3. Apply the parking brake
4. wait for the X to roll back or forward "against the brake shoe"
5. Put shifter in "P"

Do not stop, put on the parking brake, then put in Park!

When ready to go:

1. start engine
2. put shifter in D or R
3. disengage parking brake

Wow. You've just sent me back in the driver's seat 25 years ago when my dad said the same thing to me. Talk about "Driver Ed." 101 for dummy. No pun intended. :2:

25 years ago PLUS some.....very few had automatics. They were for rich folks who drove Cad's and Lincolns etc......I had to learn with a clutch, brake pedal and emergency brake shifter located between the two front seats. I can remember being on a incline with a car on your A$$ and you had to manuvuer all those pedals without rolling back......who remembers those days ? My first car was a 1960 plymouth valiant station wagon with a slant straight six that went for 350,000 miles or so. I was 15 and had no respect for her, but she was bullet proof and couldn't kill her.......I recall the drive in movies too!    ;) :D :1:

My first car was a Ford Mustang 1974 automatic, power steering. It gave up after 100,000 miles. Drove like a tank, died like a useless piece metal which ended up in the junk-yard. That was my first & last AMERICAN brand car that I've owned. The most mileage car put on by me alone (up to date) was my beloved 1991 CRX (gave away) which was still running strong at 250,000 miles with only rebuilt transmission once at 160,000. Engine was untouched btw.

P.S. Good ol day when gas was $0.70 a gallon.

I can recall when gasoline was 21 cents a gallon and my father was raising hell! Cigarettes were 42 cents a pack! I can remember the "candy lady" that came on campus to sell candy at 5 cents each! I went to private Catholic schools which didn't allow vending machines at the time.....So the candy lady was the vending machines back then.....
