I got my first scratch on my X. I noticed that my right side mirror had a scratch.
What is the best remedy? 1)using a scratch remover 2) touch up paint
I went to local Auto Zone but I cannot find a BILLET SILVER METALLIC touch up paint.Do Acura dealer charge for touch up the paint? |

Your dealer will charge you for it. It is available at the Parts counter for about $10.
This is one item you cannot do mail-order as it cannot be shipped (hazardous material). |

Be sure that you know EXACTLY what you are doing. It takes a very small mistake to make the painted scratch look far worse that when you started.

It is a brush and Pen in one, but I use a card board match stick for any work as that allows a much finer application. |

I used to use a match stick, but I came across a set of artist brushes (round #1 or #2) from Linzer that have fine pointed tips. They work better for me and allow a really fine application.
I also always have automotive Goo Gone ready when I am touch up painting. If an attempt doesn't come out right, you can remove it with the Goo Gone before it dries and try again. The Goo Gone does not harm the paint or clear coat at all. |

| FYI: a "scratch remover" does not actually *remove* a scratch, it merely fills it and lessens the appearance. It only works on scratches that aren't deep. For deep scratches you need to use touch-up paint, which if you don't do it right, will look worse than the scratch itself. Also, you can find most of the common colors at Wal-Mart (Duplicolor brand) for much less than what's sold at the dealer. I found the Duplicolor actually matched my old TL-S much better than the Acura touch-up paint! You might also want to ask your dealer which body shop they use and ask them if they have any paint they can give you. |

^^^ I agree. I usually wet sand any deep scratch and use the scratch remover. I don't recommend it though if you don't know what you doing. |

I've done the same on metal parts, but not plastic areas (like mirror housing or bumper). Any recommendation on plasitc areas? I've got a deep scratch on my rear bumper that looks like it can be filled with touch-up paint, but I wasn't sure how it would take wet sanding. |

Can you take pictures of the scratch? It's possible that you don't need the touchup and can wetsand and polish the scratch out.
This of course is dependent on the severity of the scratch.:lurk: |
