Hello everyone! Please forgive me as I am new to this type of chat. We just replaced my wifes 1997 Audi A6 Wagon (great car) with her first Acura MDX. She has always wanted one and thanks to a large deer and State Farm, she now has one. It is an awesome car so far but I am a bit concerned on the fuel mileage. I have read some threads on this issue but htought I would ask anyway.
I am pretty sure she can ignore the trip computer as I am convinced it does not calculate correctly but I drove all highway up into Northern MI and did not get 20 mpg. Sort of disappointed! Still, we all love the car. Powerful and comfortable!
Thanks! |

It ALL depends upon HOW you drove it.

Congrats on the new ride and Welcome! :D
How did you calculate your mpg? Theres alot of factors involved, but driving style is the biggest. |

Thanks everyone. To the question of driving style, I filled the tank with midgrade (89) and set the cruise at 80mph. We did not stop until we hit Traverse City where I refuled and calculated based on gallons used.
I appreciate the responses! |

"set the cruise at 80mph."
With that statement you have already stated why you did not get good fuel economy.

| Please clarify, was it the cruise or the 80mph? |

The 80mph.
I just drove 240 miles round trip, all highway, and got 23.4mpg with the cruise set at 70mph most of the way. All on one half tank of fuel. Drive it conservatively, and you can get very car-like fuel economy. Normally, in a mix of city/highway commuting, I get 19 mpg. |

| Okay, I will give it a try! I do not need a ticket anyway. Thanks a bunch. |

| Definitely the 80. Cruise control is only ideal for mpg if its level road. You gotta learn to do alot of feathering and coasting. Let the weight of the vehicle do the work. |

The faster you go, the worse fuel economy you will get....especially in an SUV with the cruise on. There is a significant difference in what you can get going 60MPH versus 70 and 80.
On a pretty regular trip that we take from Charlotte, up to Virginia (about 150 miles) when I feather it averaging about 60 MPH I can get 27-28 MPG.
When averaging about 70MPH I can get 23-25 MPG.
When averaging 80 MPH I get about 20-21MPG. |
