do u guys notice that the paint is not smooth? when i look at the paint, it looks to have rivets (not sure if that is the correct term). reflection looks distorted. it's not a flat, smooth high gloss finish. maybe i am just paranoid. plz check out your paint for me.

thanks,
hailo

Last time I checked, the paint looks quite smooth if not mirror-like to me. Not sure about what you mean by "reflection looks distorted". Are you talking about the orange peel? Anyway, mine didn't look like the picture below until 2 layers of Zaino.

I saw that in one of my cousin '08 Toyota tundra. I'd have to say, they oversprayed it or something. You have the orange peel in one area or entire car. If just one area, I have heard (from my body shop buddy), they can do a LIGHT buff to bring the surface down like the rest. They have performed this on tons of cars like corvette, mercedes, etc.

My X does not any orange peel area except for one location the rear LICENSE plate area. It's bearly noticable now thanks to Z-5. If you have orange peel on most part of the car, I'd say you need some serious work on it.

omg...it's on the entire car. i feels smooth just doesnt look smooth when u get close to the car.

What I have heard about the recent explosion of orange peel on todays automotive finishes is that it is a result of making the paints more environmentally friendly.

So on your way home from work tomorrow, pick a hippie out of a tree and make him wax your car to a mirror finish.

just to ease my mind, i went to the acura dealer and checked out the blk mdx they have. and sure enough, the paint is like mine. weird??? maybe i'm just paranoid. this is my first black car ever. i always had white. with blk u seem to see every lilttle flaw. on my other post, "screw up at the dealer", they were suppose to fix some minor scratches, well...they couldnt fix it, and they buffer wax the back bumper. so it had streaks of white wax residue. i got them to clean it off yesterday. i guess this experience gave me a sour taste in my mouth and had to vent to fellow mdxers.

thank u for listening.

wOW-with two layers of Zaino, you get free running boards and front garnish? What a great deal! Do the dogs come with the second coat?
Back to the point- black is the most revealing color I have ever owned. You can see every bump, every swirl mark, and all the surface dimpling under the clear coat.
The surface dmpling is caused by fast, HVLP spraying of water based acrylic paints. They don't flow like the old smelly paints. But they;re a lot tougher and friendlier in the air.

btw, my black mdx is exactly the same way. I noticed it the other day after I washed it. You can only see it up close though.

I have a 2007 black MDX. I haven't noticed the condition you describe. However a black MDX always shows minor imperfections like scratches. Otherwise no problems or concerns

now that some have mentioned it, mine looks like it was painted in Iraq during a sand storm........NO comparo to my RL........it is mechanically sound and that's more important to me at my stage of life......:1:

Perfectly smooth finish on my '07.
Guess it's a variable of when the car was actually built.
