Are roof racks adjustable - Click HERE for Original Thread

As I wait for my 02 to arrive, I just received an 02 brochure from my dealer......

.....the roof rack bars look very close together on the 02. Are they adjustable fore and aft ?

Looking at how little space there is between the front and rear bar, I cannot imagine loading up my 3 winsurfers and mountain bike on that rack. If I cannot do that, what is the point of an SUV ??

Anyone have any ideas ?

Racks on the 2001s are not adjustable. They bolt directly to the roof, and do not have tracks. Even with aftermarket racks, the spacing is somewhat limited. I will be using with a long kayak, and will have to tie front and back to bumper. Not the best fix, but..........Belive 02 is the same, the front rack was just moved back slightly but still bolted.

Thanks for the reply.......if they are too close on the 2001, just look at the 2002. From the pictures, they seem to have moved the front bar back, and left the rear bar where it is.

They look so close as to be virtually useless

I would suggest that you remove the OEM roof rack (if having the Touring). Then buy the after market roof rack system like those from Yakima, Thule, etc. This set up will give you full flexibility as many in this forum have done. Use the Search function to look for roof rack, thule, yakima, etc.

Good lucks.

I read someone said that Acura moved the front bar to back to reduce the wind noise. But it is now less useful. Hmm, can we have both?
