CD Changer installation - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just installed a acura cd changer last night. Not as difficult as I thought. Took me 3 hours, having done it once, I feel confident I can do it in 2 hours... Instructions that come with the cd changer are pretty easy to follow and clear... for the most part. Couple of things that I want to mention.

1. Pry open the fake wood cover around the stereo.... Please be very, very, Gentle... I found that I had to use a utility knief to gently, gently, gently nudge the cover out. This is not something that takes much force.

2. When loosening the screws around the stereo, be careful not to drop the screws when removing it.... like I did... took me 1/2 hour looking for it.

3. Removing the center panels are very easy on either side of center console..... you can route the bus cable from the stereo to either driver or passenger side.... I chose to mount the cd changer under the passenger side seat. Safety issue, I did not want my teenager son to try changing the cds in the cd changer while driving.

4. Had to make a small (1.5 inch) slit in the carpet under the passenger seat to pass the bus cable thru. I thought it was too difficult trying to rout the cable to where there was already a hole in the carpet. Removing the panel under the seat was more difficult.... took what I thought was a pretty good force. Had to try several times.

5. Remember to have your security code handy when reinstalling your stereo.

Overall success...

Also, wanted to mention about the third screw for the mud flap... I chose to use a hex head screws from Home Depot... then you can use a rachett instead of a screw driver... ie -you don't have to take the tire off.

Sincerely,
Calvin
did you buy acura cd changer or alpine? if alpine, what model was it? also, did you velcroed it or attach it with screws under the seat? thanx
I installed a acura cd changer from hondacura world. I guess alpine would work ok since I noticed that the stereo in the mdx is alpine also. Couple of concerns using non-acura brand would be...

1. Bus cable from stereo to cd changer... is it universal like computer cables? If it is, then no problem.

2. Acura cd changer comes with mounting brackets and bolts that fit easily to pre-drilled holes under the front seats (cd changer with mounting brackets fits both passenger and driver side seats). What kind of mounting brackets would you have with alpine cd changer? I don't see any reason why velcrow wouldn't work... just not as secure.

The Acrua CD Changer is made by Alpine. I don't know if Alpine's aftermarket changer can use the Acura mounting bracket, but it probably can. As far as picking driver or passenger seat to mount under, passenger seat is not available on NAVI models, as this is where the NAVI unit is mounted! Other than that, either location works well. I agree on the safety issue of changing while driving. Some people will do CRAZY things while driving!)

The bus cable is not industry standard, but depending on the Alpine model, you may be able to buy an adapter cable that let's it plug into your head unit.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the CD Changer? Also, is it a 6-disc changer?

I installed the CD changer this past weekend. Fairly straight forward installation. I found it easier to pry the cover off from the inside edge (the edge closest to the gray face on the radio) which almost eliminates scratching the fake wood.
