Broken Navigation - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just returned from a trip to NH and was psyched to show the Navi system off to my brother-in-law and the thing bombed/froze. I got a bright yellow error message telling me to bring it into the dealer (what a PIA).

I was wondering if anybody else was having a problem with the Navi System ?
I posted this message in the general discussion to address your same question. Thought I'd include it here as well.

I have had the same problem. The navi software would freeze after an address or street was entered then would time-out and go back to the main entry screen. To my frustration, this was intermittent. Later, I could enter the same address that I was having problems with and the system would work properly. I went back to the dealer and as my luck would have it they did not find a problem with it. I even saw the yellow box flash every so quickly, but, it wasn't until the system froze when the yellow box was displayed that I was able to read the message. My message said that there was a reading error "(unformatted)" and to contact the dealer. With this new information, I went back to the dealer and they ordered a new DVD disk. I don't know if this will fix the problem since it could be the reader and not the disk, but hopefully it will. Keep us posted on your findings.
Well, I got a new DVD disk from the dealer yesterday and it seemed to fix the problem. The system is now fast and snappy! The dealer told me that I had a scratch on the previous disk that was creating the disk read errors.
I turned on my MDX on Sunday morning and the Navi screen was all white! Selected the AC controls and you could see lines going across in blue and if you could "guess" at where the controls are, it would respond to touch, but you can still barely see it. I adjusted the brightness by "guesswork" and the screen got darker or lighter, but still couldn't be read. The dealer says he thinks it needs a new screen, but they are back-ordered until May! The dealer is checking with Acura to see if the screens are interchangable with the TL or CL navi screens. Anyone else have a problem with this?

Now the dealer is telling me that the navi screen needs to be replaced and they are out of stock until mid-March. So I guess I now have a "Black Hole" in the middle of my dash. I can't believe that NObody in the country has a part for my navigation system. Any suggestions on who to call to expedite the part??
ghabicht,
vicpai posted this on another thread which might be of help since according to him, the unit is made by Alpine:

A piece of equipment as complex as the Navigation system has many intricacies involved in it. However, you can still install one if Acura will supply the parts. I have fiddled with the Navigation system in my 3.2TL to see if I could connect a DVD player there and I've also done TONS of research on this subject as I am a NAVIGATION SYSTEM FREAK and here's what I've found out:
It's relatively simple to install the Navigation system, provided it fits the console correctly. The Navigation system is basically the same as the Alpine DVD based aftermarket unit (Alpine makes it for Acura). Buy the parts from Acura and take it to an Alpine dealer (the Good Guys or Circuit City) or to find the dealer nearest you go to http://www.alpine1.com They will be able to remove the "trip computer screen" that's sitting in your Acura and replace it with the new screen you obtain from Acura and they'll install the DVD-ROM player under the seat. I may have oversimplified the installation here, but don't try and install it yourself as there are other things such as correctly installing and positioning the GPS antenna and also connecting the "speed-pulse-sensor" of the "inertial reference system. Good luck !!
Thanks for the info, remery. I currently have a call into Acura's Customer Care line and they are trying to locate the part from another dealer's inventory to send me. I'll wait to hear from them 1st. If no luck, I'll try calling Alpine.
Thanks!
It pays to call customer care! I just got a call from my dealer and the new navi screen has been located. Having it fixed Monday. Thanks for your input.

You beat me too it. I was going to say to call Acura Customer care.

They'll take GOOD care of you. As I see they have.
:D

This is my 1st experience with Acura service. After a call to the Customer Care Line, they Fedexed the part directly from the factory. Took my car in at 7:30 am to have the Navi screen replaced. The service dept. had a TL already warmed up for me when I got there - took 2 minutes! They called me 3 hrs. later to tell me it was finished. The car was washed & ready to go when I arrived - Now works perfectly! Customer Care called me 2 hours later to make sure I was satisfied with the work and to see if I had any other concerns.
ACURA CUSTOMER CARE IS AWESOME!
:-)
