High Pitch Sound - Click HERE for Original Thread

I heard a high pitch sound coming from the rear of the MDX last week. My wife told me that she actually heard it since we got the new MDX more than a month ago (she's the primary user of the MDX). The high pitch sound is kind of quiet. It's more noticeable from outside the MDX, then inside. However, if we turn off the air cond, and the radio, we can hear it while inside the vehicle. The sound is there as soon as the MDX is started, and is there both parked and when driving. I opened the front hood and confirmed that the sound wasn't from the front. Any one has any clue or had this same situation? Thanks!

Yes, I can hear the same sound. I am not sure what it is but it doesn't bother me that much because for some reason it doesn't sound to me like something is broken more like aliens are inside of the car, maybe that was the engineering goal to show that the car is from the future.
If you find out more info about it let us know.
The MDX was brought in to be checked by the dealer. Dealer said the high pitch sound is from the gas pump, and there is nothing they can do about it. The mechanic said this is quite common, and is on some other vehicles and makes. We have 2 other Accords, and never had this sound. Can't believe a luxury car's gas pump creates this anoying sound!
Yeah, speaking of annoying-sounds-that-shouldn't-be-in-a-luxury-vehicle:

How about when you release the brake pedal? Turn off all the stuff (radio, AC) and you'll hear a hiss with each pedal push.

Totally unacceptable (to me at least)

Perfectly normal for "this year and model" per Acura...

Try a Honda ODY and you will hear a similar note. The fuel tank is amid-ships on these common platforms which makes not only fuel slosh on these unbaffled tanks more audible but also the hiss of the electric fuel pump in the tank. This is in fact a totally normal condition and a trait of this type of layout. That wonderful folding rear seat had to stow where the fuel tank would be in a more conventional layout, a bit furthur from the drivers ears.

Strange, I was in a 52K Cadillac Seville STS the other day and the Brake Booster made this exact sound. In fact, it is a characteristic of a vacuum brake booster and many different vehicles from many manufacturers create this sound when the pedal is depressed. It is also normal for the pedal to sink slightly after stops as the vacuum from the engine returning to idle increases in the booster...this is not a bad master cylinder symptom.
I understand the difficulty in fitting all the features and nice designs into the MDX. However, this high pitch sound problem created by the gas pump is still unacceptable. This sound is always there, whether the tank is full or not, car is moving or not. In today's high tech world, there must be something the enginner can do to remove this sound. I hope it's not going to get louder as the car ages. To people who have sensative ears, this is really annoying! On the brake paddle, the vacumm sound is not as bad and annoying.

Tiger, the fuel pump is a constant feed type, it runs when the engine runs, so yes....you will always hear it, but if its sibling, the Honda Ody is used to judge the pumps durability, I would guess that in typical Acura fashion, what you hear now is what you will hear in 10 years...for whatever its worth to your ears. Remember sound is resonance, a full tank is just adding a more complete medium to transmit the pumps resonance to the surrounding tank, in addition to its rigidly mounted access plate. If you cease to hear it, you have problems with your ears or your vehicle.
