Has anyone installed a full 18 piece kit $233 from ExoticWoodDash yet?
How does it look? Does it match up with the existing interior?
How difficult was it / how long did it take?
What is worth it? Are all the pieces good looking once installed? Are any likely to get loose or come off with normal wear and tear?
Lots of questions - thanks for any help you can give! |

The kit was very easy to install, I was selective about wich pieces I installed, I haven't made up my mind about the two pieces that go around the radio/trip computer...
You only need a hair dryer to install the items, and it takes almost no time at all.
As far as worth...if you like it, then its worth it.
I like the way mine looks: (I need to take new pics)

I have an extra "wood" piece for the instrument cluster. I had the Acura one installed along with my steering wheel, prior to buying the kit. I would be interested in selling it for $75 - shipped. If interested let me know. |

larryk,
thanks for the info and the pictures. I'll pass on the Acura piece - I'll do the full set if anything.

Hey, folks, just finished installing the dash kit. Pretty easy. Took me about 2 hrs.
A couple of suggestions:
1/ Use the blow dryer when dry-fitting the stuff to get it somewhat molded. This is especially important for the instrument cluster stuff.
2/ Use the 3M contact enhancer (or whatever that stuff is called that makes it stick better) QUICKLY and AT ONCE on all the surfaces you're prepping -- exposure to air dries it out fast!
As with MesaBeige, I opted not to install a few of these as they looked like overkill. I didn't install the NAV or radio covers, or the sunglass holder cover, or the thing-on-the-glovebox-lock cover (it looked like an obvious stick-on with black interior), or the gear selector deal. I also passed on the change tray cover b/c you can't see it open or closed, but DID do the 12v power socket, which turned out pretty well.
I was a bit disappointed with the vent covers -- IMHO they look much better on the tan interior than the black. Of course, it's too late now (I think).
If anyone's interested in those xtra pieces I didn't use, let me know and I'll send them your way...
Will post some pics in the gallery when I'm done w/the other accessories this weekend (tailgate deflector, nets, prostripe molding). |

| I'm sorry, but I'm not a big fan of wood trims. For those of you who have extended them in your MDX, I thing they look great... but I don't think I want that in my MDX. Are there any other options out there so far? I'm thinking MDX would look awesome in aluminum trims. |
|
|
|
| about the durability of exotic wood dash kits, they are very durable. i installed a full kit on my LS and it's lasted me for 3+ years, and it still looks new....no fading or cracking. |

Hi:
Does anyone know where I can find a site/place where they sell real burled wood or walnut wood trim? I want to replace the simulated wood dash with real wood.
Thanks,

Thanks Averex34
I just ordered a set - Mike at Joshua Tree was very helpful and faxed me a drawing of the pieces (they should be on their web site by tonite).... They have the same parts as the Exotic kit, but these are real wood and are cheaper (they're having a sale thru tomorrow).
They also make them in aluminum for those interested in a metal finish.
Regards.

no problemo, here to help....
yea i was on the site earlier, and they didn't have a layout of the pieces. i'll check back tonite to see if they added the layout. probably going to order them 2nite, and yea....they are much cheaper than exoticwooddash. you save almost $100 bucks. |

Thanks for the assistance everyone. I'll check out the sites.

| check out http://www.wooddash.com--i hear they sell some quality wood dashes. another thing is they don't charge for shipping and they have great tech support--they have been around awhile, so they know what they are talking about! (i also noticed they have sunroof wind deflectors for the mdx). |

Be careful!
The wood trim from Joshua Tree (http://WWW.woodtrim.com) is only 14 pieces ($147); there is other 4 pieces ($100). These items are different from exoticwooddash or wooddash.com.
Still waiting my GG w/Nav. since oct. |

yea, thanx......i already know that it has 14 pieces from joshua tree, and that exoticwooddash has 18.
the question is......do i need those 4 extra pieces. |

There are some good pieces missing from the woodtrim.com package !!!
Good price from woodtrim.com, sale price only...it will go back up to $197 without the other pieces.
I posted the pictures of the packages from each website for all members to see in the gallery !

The door trim is available separately if you want them. I thought that part 'Q' (switch trim) covers the sunroof buttons area.

Hi everyone:
Can't seem to locate a wood manufacturer that sells only the original OEM wood kit. Looking to replace the MDX's simulated wood with real burled or walnut wood. Joshua says they don't carry it. Anyone out there with a reference?
Thanks... |

Worm: I'm about to install my wood dash kit and I noticed the instruction say to let the adhesion promoter dry FULLY before proceeding. Any reason why you did not do that? |
|
|
|
I *did* let the adhesion promoter dry before fitting the pieces...
Sorry for being vague in the earlier post(s). I meant to apply it to all surfaces in 1 run (then let dry before installing the pieces), and not stop by doing an "apply to door, install door piece; apply to vent, install vent piece, etc." else the *foam pad* will dry out and you'll run out of adhesive.
Hope that makes sense. |

I was up late ...at night ..in the freezin cold..with my work light hangin' from my sunroof !! LOL:p Well worth it !
I'm MDX-Obsessed like that !
Thanx...for the 411 about the adhesive.
I installed the whole thing in about 2 hours.
My dash kit is in and it is looking SWEET !!!!!!!!!!!!
My mom saw it and now wants to order one for her brand new Honda Accord to match the current wood trim in there already.
I'm all set.....going to Atlantic City this Friday night in STYLE baby !!!!!
WOOD TRIM ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
Thanx Worm...for all the great pointers !!!

I picked the Joshua Tree - ordered yesterday.
$80 less than ExoticWoodDash. You do get less pieces but they are the pieces I wasn't really interested in anyway (door tray trim).
I started a new thread on Joshua Tree so this thread can remain for ExoticWoodDash discussions.
