Reading the compass - Click HERE for Original Thread

By looking at the compass, the top inner arrow is the direction the car is heading, but what is the significant of the outer arrow?? (Can't seem to get info in user manual.)

The outer arrow should be pointing to magnetic North at all times.

Thanks, I originally thought it was NORTH compared to the direction I was going, but sometimes, it appears to me NOT North. Just what is "magnetic north"? What is the purpose of showing that?
