Here's my MDX:

I love the car and love the site! Keep MDXin' guys!
jgen
Noticed you have body coloured mud flaps. Are those stock with paint? If so, how are they wearing, i.e. stonechips on the paint.
BTW your 'X' looks mean!:)
MDXplosion
Liek the way you have it looking dub.....Why dont you remove the MDX logo on the back? I think it would look hot! without it! The painted splash guards add a real nice touch to it  ........Mine are on backorder...as soon as I receive them I look to have them painted as well....looking good....as you said keep on MDXin!!!
DubbedSSmdx
Thanks Jgen:

I got them painted at my local Acura/Honda Autherized Body Shop. Spent app $200 to get them painted. It was kinda pricey due to the extra additive used on the guards. The guards are made out of a different material then the deflector. This additive was used to make the paint stick and to resist cracking and peeling since this material is more plyable. Color matching these parts on any MDX i think is a must - incredible difference.

So far so good... the color matched guards are wearing well - guess that extra additive works.

DubbedSSmdx
Thanks MDXplosion:

Yeah, i've been debating wether or not to remove the logo or not... haven't seen enough pics to make a final decision....
MDXplosion
I removed it from my X and I like it much better without. Here is a pic of another user from the forum who took a good pic of it after removing the emblem....hope this helps....
DubbedSSmdx
Hey MDXplosion:

Your tag descrip of your MDX makes me curious... post some pics for us all!!!
DubbedSSmdx
Yeah... I think that's been added on the to do list for the weekend!!!?!?!...

BTW does anyone know when bulls bars are gonna be made for the MDX? ...don't like the brush guards made for the MDX... want something like this:
DubbedSSmdx
or this...
MDXplosion
Well dub the only pics I have it this moment are of the twenty inch rims I dropped on my X the restof the parts listed are sitting in my garage waiting to be installed...since it gets dark early I am unable to get it done during the week.....soon enough though...

here is a pic of my twenty's
MDXplosion
I would be interested in some bull bars as well.....Anyone out there know if they are available? I would like to see that.

Dub do you have any plans for the interior?
DubbedSSmdx
MDXplosion:

Nice choice with the Anzio's bud!!! what tire size/brand did you go with, wheel offset, etc... Finally another dubbed out MDX!!!!
MDXplosion
I went with 275/45/20 Goodyear tire....cant rememeb the name of the tire itself...but its all rolling sweet.....granted not as smooth as the stock wheels, naturally, but overall I still have the smooth ride.

Which tire size/brand did you go with? Did you lower your X?
DubbedSSmdx
MDXxplosion:

Just screens and stuff for the interior. I went with all the wood options (steering wheel, cluster, shift, etc).

How about you? any ideas?
MDXplosion
When you wash the ride and put silicone or armor all on your tires do you notice when you take off that the application of the silicone splashes all over the X? Especially with 20's!

I use the good stuff as well that you spray from a can and I let it sit for 2 hours and still the car gets splashed with the silicone.

Do you feel a stiff ride with your 20's?

Why didnt you go with the stainless side step bars?
MDXplosion
Nothing out of the norm.....meaning I am not reinventing the wheel....I previously had all panasonic equipment in my M3 and I was pleased with it so I ordered a panasonic dvd/cd head unit at a great price from sounddomain.com and will be ordering the indash 7" screen for the front and a ceiling drop screen for the rear passengers....eventually add an X box and upgrade the speakers and add amps along with a cd changer and dvd changer....I just received the woodash kit...something else to be installed this weekend....

DubbedSSmdx
For tire shine i use the Black Magic aresol can stuff and i also get my car washed weekly at a detailing/hand carwash that uses the best trie dressing which is applied with a paint brush. Personally I love the stuff that the dealer uses; tryin to find out what they use and order some.

Anyways, you're right on. You have to let the tire dressing sit in for at least an hour or two; depending on temp and climate. But yes i do get the splash up from the tire dressing if i don't let it cure properly...

re: the stainless side steps

i haven't gotten the maniks because they stick out. I'm tryin to find a place that will chrome the stock side steps.
MDXtrous
MDXplosion,

How do you like the Platinum Prices HID?

For your in dash screen, you may consider www.streeteffectz.com in NJ. They will convert the built-in LCD to accept video for $450.

Thanks,
MDXtrous
DubbedSSmdx
MDXplosion:

no that's the stock ride hight, didn't lower it. For tires i used Goodyear Eagle HP Plus 295/40/20. The ride is just as smooth as stock but i got 10 fold better handling due to the with of the new tires.

this is what i want to get done to my X but the installer is out in WA... this is how it should be done though.

BTW:
do you see any other dubbed out MDX's around your way? i haven't seen any here but have heard about one other...
DubbedSSmdx
here's another view... (kinda makes you wanna move to WA, i've even though about shipping my X there to get it done...)

DubbedSSmdx
MDXtrous:
Due to past experience i've chosen to go with the CATZ Hid bulbs (purple tint same as Audi HID)... they're the best bulbs in my opinion but expensive (app $80/ pair; so app: $240 for low, high, and fogs)... but what the hell you're not putting them in a civic so spend a little... they're the right watt and have the XEON look you're looking for. All the others (Cuzo, Kyro, Pia, etc...) melt and burn housing and even explode!; not a good thing since the watt rating is too high. Also these other bulbs have a cheap color coating somtimes; that wears out. Get the CATZ you get what you pay for!

MDXxplosion:
tell me more about that video change from www.streeteffectz.com!!!!?!?!?!? are you talkin about the Navi screen or the Trip Computer screen?
DubbedSSmdx
before color matching and twenty inch wheels...
DubbedSSmdx
after color matching and twenty inch wheels....
DubbedSSmdx
MDXplosion:

How do you like your Goodyear Eagle GT II tires? Those are all-season tires, jus curious how they ride, handle, etc. That tire is a hard tire to get; where'd you find them and how much did they run you. If you have close ups of your tire/wheel combo please post.
MDXplosion
The Goodyear Eagle GT II tires are handling and riding just fine....the handling is much better than the 17" Michelin, naturally, but I am pleased with them. No noise or feedback from these tires and or road, you know how some tires give off a sound to them and feedback due to the tread.....

Obviously they ride tighter and much more lean on the road which makes it a stiff ride compared to the stock wheels, but overall as long as one is on decent pavement (which in NY/NJ its hard to come by...lol) it still makes for a luxury ride.

I am not sure how much they cost since my boy hooked me up with a sweet deal on this entire package for $3k....not including the tax....so I jumped on them....but if you like I can reach out to him for you and ask where he got the Eagle II tires from and his price on them....let me know.

Here is a pic of them up close...mind you they are dirty.
MDXplosion
MDXtrous I have yet to install everything....it is just sitting in my garage waiting to be installed....with the HID's I have the 15-20 minutes it takes to install however I didn't have handy a set of gloves so I wouldnt make the mistake of touching the bulb and placing oil on them....looking to start installation of all accessories this weekend...I will keep you posted

However there are plenty of other threads in the forum that gives a breakdown on the many vendors and options when it comes to HID light bulbs....just run a search on HID bulbs or Platinum Price if your interested in going with them. As for CATZ Hid bulbs looks like dub is pleased with their performance....I will try the platinum price bulbs if not satisfied I will look into the CATZ Hid bulbs.
MDXplosion
That setup is off da hook!!!!! That looks like it takes weeks to get done but the final result is tremendously nice!!!! Where did you get those pics from dub?

Question:

Is that setup with a 7" lcd up top and the trip computer on the bottom?....nice setup!

Where in WA? You have me thinking about taking a ride out there....:D

Are there any more details to this installation anywhere?

That setup in your X would look DYNOMITE!!!!(As JJ would say...lol)
As for mine I would need to make the color or the surrunding casing different since I have saddle interior.

As for other dubbed out X's I have seen another one with the color mesa beige with 20's....spoke to him briefly...but he didnt have any accessories at the time....but I am sure there will be more and more of them popping up on the scene especially in the NJ/NY area.
DubbedSSmdx
have you done anything new to your X? post pics... Please post pics of your saddle int. too...

MDXplosion
done anything new to your X?

Well just this past weekend I installed most of the accessories I had purchased:

Tailgate
Platinum Price bulbs
Weather Tech mats
Cargo Mat
Manik Chrome side steppers
Wood Kit

I also removed my splash guards and still need to drop all 4 of them off to the Auto Body shop to have them painted and match the body paint. I am enjoying all of the enhancments that I have provided my X, however the manik chrome/stainless steel steppers look hot!!! combined with the 20" chrome wheels. I like it ALOT! (lol...Tom Hanks). Overall I am lovin' this vehicle!!! The weather tech mats are off da hook as well! They are keeping all the dirt and grime enclosed until I get to vacuum and clean the interior on the weekends. So that is working out well....everything is working great! The longest installation was the tailgate and steppers which only took a little over an hour to install.

Now all I have left is the audio and video installations.

I will provide pics when I get a chance since it has been raining here for the past few days.

Anything new on your X?

KEPP ON MDXIN!!!!...... Holla!
DubbedSSmdx
Nothing new on the MDX with the exception of removing the MDX on the rear (you right it looks better clean!) and removed my dubs to roll on stock for the winter. MDXplosion please post pics of the chromey side steps! ...i opted not to go with them since the pics i've seen on here show them to stick out more than stock.... looking forward to the new pics...

M to the Deezie - HO!

Happy Holidays everyone... it officially started to snow here in chicago.... will let you now how the MDX takes to the snow....
vmishra
Hi MDXplosion,
Sounds like you are having a great time accessorizing your X. How I do envy you! My own "redrock" gets here in 5 weeks or so. Now to get to the point...

I have been trying to decide whether to go for the Manik steps or not. I am convinced by some posts (including yours :) ) that I must get larger chromed wheels. I am going for 18" customs. Believe it or not, the wife shares that view ;-)

However I am not convinced that the maniks will look good (to me atleast). The impression I get from the few pics that I have seen on this site is that it makes the X look kinda boxy. Even though the silver will contrast nicely with the red color I don't want to go for the "boxy" look. I also tried to convince myself by saying it will protect from dings.

Any thoughts, comments?

I have been imploring some red X owners on this site to post side-view pics of their manik-equipped X , but alas to no avail yet
:(
hint hint GCK...

Please help by posting such a pic of your awesone Mahogany
Thanks

DubbedSSMDX,

When you had the mud guards painted, did you paint both sides of the guards? or did you just do the outside with the body color and the side towards the tires stayed black. Just wondering what would be the best way to have that done.

Hey wassup Vmishra and Dub!

Whats going on! Guys I think the manik stainless side steps looks great....I had the same concerns you do now Vmishra however I just said the worst that would happen if I didnt happen to like them is that I would have to put them up on Ebay and sell them (of course for less ). However I was surprised and loved the look....especially how the wheels and the bars compliment each other....There are pics in the forum with these maniks installed, but not with 20" wheels but the look will still serve the same. Ok maybe a bit different with chromed out wheels but not much different. I will post pics as soon as I get it washed and gleaming with that chrome shine. It was raining in my area and it is dirty right now....I will post some pics by the end of the week.....Maniks on a red rock =====HOT!!!!

Dub: the steps do stick out a bit but still look good and as if they were originally by Acura....but yes not as close as the black steps you have on yours....In any event I just need to stop talking and start posting some pics....soon gents....:D

Peace!

MDXtrous the inside of the guards are left stock black. I will post pictures to show detail. The guards are holding up well. If your body shop has it pay the extra for the flex additive; makes the paint stick better to plastics and won't crack.

I must admit... you're makein' me seriously consider the chrome side steps! ...They look great, they don't sit as well as the stock ones but then again they're chrome - so it's kind of a trade... my only other gripe about these are the step pads... tell us how they hold up, people have posted that they crack easily and aren't made as well as the stock steps.... if they hold up well i might have to join in and pick up a pair!!!!?!?!?..... can you post some pics with a eagle view of the steps to the body and another pic of the side profile to see how far they come out..... thanks.... and your baby is lookin tight!!!! it's so nice to see another Acura MDX sittin SOOOO lovely on DUBS! ...c'mon everyone join me and MDXplosion and let's form a MDX Dub CLUB!!!!!

Maybe I should go for 19" instead of 18" wheels. Hmmm...

Vmishra:

If you're gonna get aftermarket wheels you have to go at least 20 inches seriously. If you're debating between 18in and 19in; jus go the extra mile and get yourself some twenty's... if you like mine they can be your's for $2300 shipped (email me at rbalbarin@hotmail.com ). I've taken them off for the winter and they're ready to sell. Just let me know.... But MDXplosion and I can attest - no less than 20" - that's for sure!!!!?!?!?! http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...40364#post40364

vmishra
MDXplosion and DubbedSSmdx , I hear ya.
However, my concern is that by going 20" I might be pushing it on multiple fronts.
- Going over the stock wheel+tire height
- If not, then too little tire side-wall
- Thereby chances for more tire damage while "moderately off roading"
- Too much road response
- Wheel well width

I am going to ask the wheel shop about these. Your thoughts comments are always welcome.

DubbedSSmdx
Vmishra:

To each's own... do your research and decide for your self. However, in my opinion regardless if you go with 18", 19", 20", etc. your not going to be able to do light of roading. BMW X5's come stock with 19" wheels and even the new X5 4.6 comes stock with 20" wheels... As far as ride comfort, the tire set up that i went with didn't compromise the ride comfort much but gave the MDX 5x more handling ability.

- Happy holiday's and Happy MDXing to all!!!!

vmishra
Dubbed,
Do you mean just by going to 18" from the stock 17" we will give up some off roading capabilities?

DubbedSSMDX,

Attached is an SS with Maniks to help you with the decision.
MDXplosion
pushing it on multiple fronts

- Going over the stock wheel+tire height
Where is your major concern here...at most you get improved handling.

- If not, then too little tire side-wall
It really isnt all that bad, ther eis still plenty of sidewall left. Then again this is coming from a person who had their M3 dropped with some really low profiles....but with the 20" on the X I dont find myself looking out for every pothole, I just ride.

- Thereby chances for more tire damage while "moderately off roading"

If you like off-rroding then I suggest you stay with your first intentions and get 18" wheels....I think I would be in shock watching someone off-road with 20" wheels. Off-roading is not for me, so my X wont see off-road.

- Too much road response
Not much at all....a bit stiff but thats about it and I live in NJ and always in and out of NY the roads are bad out here.

- Wheel well width....again not an issue thye fit just fine.

Vmish I agree with Dubb, to each's own so my advice would be to research it and make sure you make a sound choice that would meet all of your concerns and provide what it is your looking to establish. Good luck with your search and hunt for the right size of rims...Im sure it will look good either way.

Have a Happy Holiday ACURAMDX.ORG!!!
DubbedSSmdx
Vmishra:

In my opinion for light off roading the largest wheel you can go with is a 17"... but it is all conditional with what you consider "light off-roading". From my research most if not all light off roading tires come in 17" or smaller. Our class of truck, like the X5, RX300, etc. aren't meant for much off-roading. Off-roading is for Wranglers, Defenders, Land Rovers, and the like. I like to condsider the MDX, X5, RX300, street jungle SUV's - terrain such as heavy snow, light dirt roads, gravel, curbs, etc.... everything else is for Land Rovers, Hummers, etc...

MDXplosion is right on when he says that with the X om twenty's you don't find yourself dodging every pothole no more you would with the stock set up. With twenty's you're running a 40 - 45 profile... 19" you'd run app a 50 ...18" you'd run a 55"... but keep in mind that profile is a percentage of the tires with... so when you go with a wider tire you aren't really losing TOO much in the profile ie: 45% of 275 isn't that much less than 65% of 235...

That's enough techno talk.... Vmishra do your research and you'll be fine...

Happy Holiday's everyone!!!!

Thanks for the pic... i'm still kind of skeptical... i'm going to wait till my buddy MDXplosion tells me how well the the Manik step pads hold up... they look great but i'm really picky when it comes to functionality, fit and finish .... why can't acura jus come out with chrome stock side steps and it's been one!!!!!?!?!... other things my baby (MDX) needs are custom mesh or billet grills (want something like the Denali grill) and that damn bull bar!!!!?!?!?!?

Oh, yeah, the 20's do it!! I am still debating whether to spend the $$ on it, but it sure enhances the look of the X, IMO. Nice job dub and xplosion!:D
MDXplosion
mdx logo taken off

IMO, much better Dub. Looks clean and smooth. That is one of the better enhancements one can provide their X at no cost.

debating whether to spend the $$ on it

Octavian if you do decide to replace your oem wheels, one thing that is for sure; You will fall in-love with your X all over again. I can almost guarantee it :D

If you can, just go out and scout a wheel shop and choose a wheel that you like and 9 out of 10 times they should have it in stock and have them try it on in the shop so you can see what it looks like and how your X sits on them. That is what I did and after 3 tries (with 3 different wheels) I knew I wanted the selection I made. WARNING: Leave the wallet at home and any means to cash cause if you do this, I am sure your next post would be showing us your X with new wheels.... :D

DubbedSSmdx
here are some pics of my guards close up for those who have asked how i had them painted. I had them painted at a Acura/Honda body shop that painted the out side and left the inside facing the wheel un touched. They also added a flex additive to the painting process that keeps it from cracking; since the material of the mud guards have a hard time keeping the paint to stick. The guards have held up well, app 7 months now and there are no visible signs of wear, paint cracking or pealing. But then again i wash my car 3 - 4 times hand washed religously! -Enjoy.

DubbedSSmdx,

Ever consider painting the roof rack SS?
DubbedSSmdx
MDXtrous,

actually i have thought about it - lol!!!!??!? ...i decided against it because there are alot of seperate pieces that make up the roof rack and i think "some" contrast is a good thing. A couple of my friends have insisted that i get it done. It would look lovely, considering that's the case on the Lexus RX 300 Silversport Edition... it's an option, but nothing i'm heavily considering...
MDXplosion
hhhmmmm...its a thought but I agree with you, one needs the contrast or else it will be too much color to the eye and IMO would take away from the serious luxury and classy look of it. The splash guards, nice touch! It is looking good Dub we just need to be careful in not overdoing it and making the X look like a toy....you knwo what I'm saying.

I thought you took your dubs off? I like those wheels....why are you selling them? I have been lucky in that the area has yet to receive a good snowfall so I might just be MDXin' throughout the entire winter....it also helps that I have a hooptie that I can climb into once the snow does hit, therefore leaving the X home resting and away from the salt, sand, ice and someone sliding into me:cool:
DubbedSSmdx
MDXplosion

Yeah i've decided to keep the dubs on and am no longer selling them... i had a couple offeres and almost actually shipped but i decided to keep the dubs... the MDX dosen't look right without them once you've got dubs on em - i'm sure you know what i mean! Yeah i agree with you about the color matching... i think i'm content with the guards and rear deflector. Still want the front bull bar and might be getting the chrome side steps...
MDXtrous
I don't really like the MB M-class, but would have to say that the ones with the chrome side steps with the front bull bar, just make the car look spectacular. I think the same would apply to the MDX.
MDXplosion
My exact thoughts MDXtrous. I would definitely have to look into the bars once they are available for the X.
DubbedSSmdx
Today is the first day that it has "really snowed" in chicago. Hopefully the dubbedSSmdx takes well to the snow. There are snow plows at my work parking lot right now. Wish me luck guys!!!

I'm starting to seriously consider the chrome side steps. Can you give more information about how much they cost, where you ordered them from, installation time etc.... Thanks.

And if anyone has more information on them... please feel free to post. And when are are these companies going to release a bull bar for the MDX?!!!?!?!?
MDXplosion
Cost ranges around $425 maybe less if a vendor has them on sale. It takes about 30 min. to install maybe less if one is mechanically inclined which I am not...so if I can get it done in a half hour then I am sure you can get it done in less time. I dont have the information or the number where i purchased them from I have that in my X file at home. So I will get back to you on that....I used a number that was posted here on the forum, gave the guy a call and ordered it. I will get back to you with that number.

The steps seem to be holding up well...no cracks or anything thus far. I like the extra chrom look they give the X.

How are the dubs holding up in the snow?

I look really nice in person and it will look even nicer if the lower body pannel where the running board meet the MDX is also painted to match.

Watt up Dubbed!! Everything is going well with the X....

I had it out in the recent snow storm we had here in the East but it really wasnt much snow and not much of a test for the X. The dubs are rolling and shining as expected.

As for what is new I am ordering all the parts and accessories for my audio/video setup. Which I will be installing in spring-summer.

Those pics you posted are off da hook!!!! The trucks look good, however I dont think I can ride with such low profiles and having to worry about every bump/crack on the road. For sure here in NY I would have had to replace a rim with all the potholes we have in our streets....lol...it looks good for appearance & shows but not practical for me to worry about every bump.

So anything new on your X? The riding boards on Pandays X look sweet! Much better than before.

Panday, saw you last night on University Ave and you were on stock wheels. What happened??

Though I haven't seen a MDX with 20"s in person, the pictures look great. We just picked up our Redrock Pearl MDX last week, and I'm under pressure :D to make the MDX look less like a minivan. The dubs are definitely on the list, but I have a concern about the difference in overall diameter of the tires.

Do you notice that it throws off the trip computer? The nav unit? According to http://members.aol.com/agspeed/tiresize.htm and http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html , the overall diameter increases by 0.7", which means the speedometer will show speed 2.5% too slow. So, any problems?

Rob I have no problems whatsoever with my dubs. I always had it in my mind that I was going to get dubs on my X. I went the day after I drove it off the lot and had them put on without any regards to all the technical information that keeps popping up in regards to aftermarket rims/tires...especially 20inch wheels. I am not saying that this technical data is bogus, I just simply bought them without any thought about the technical data and possibilities of issues. I have had my dubs on my X since the second day I owned my X and going on 6k miles (frequent Atlantic City trips :D ) and everything seems just fine...My speedometer reads 80mph and it sure feels like I am going that fast as well, so if it is 2.5% slower then that is news to me I will keep that in mind next time a trooper pulls me over...:)

Like my favorite casino game: I will "Let it Ride" with 20's on my X.

Do not add the moldings: IMO, they definitely make the X look like a minivan. Also get your splash guards painted, and add the rear deflector if you havent already done so. With the dubs alone it will make your X not look like a minivan, add the other enhancements and you have a nice looking Luxury SUV. When you get the dubs post pics...I would love to see a Redrock Pearl with 20's on it.

Take it to the X level. Good luck.

Guys-

what do you think if I installed 22 inch wheels, lowered by 1 inch...Do you think this is wise for my MDX? My goal is to have the ALL WHEEL look on my vehicle.

Dubbed-

Did you use the wattage boost ballast for your Fetz Catz bulbs? i want to make sure because I want to find Halogen bulbs for my fogs right now that would simulate the HID look. I currently have the real Hella HID lighting system on my low beams. Please let me know.

hey fireblade:

I'm with you on the 22's!!?!?!? I've done my research on 22's... the 22's will fit but there are a limited amount of 22's made that will fit correctly. The main issue is the offset. Most 22's are made with a deep offset, which is the exact opposite of what the MDX requires... The other thing holding me back from 22's is that the ride will definitely suffer; tires will be rubber bands for sure - and that's rough!!?!?! But the look would be indescribable!!! As for my HID fogs... i only used the bulbs... can you please posts pics of your HID's - i saw the pic once but can't find the post again. Your HID pic's do them justice!!!

Keep MDXin' fellas!
