Looks real nice. Depends on the price if it is going to be a serious competetion to the MDX.

I like the side view (profile) and the rear end of the XC90. Interior is not bad either. The front end, on the other hand, is plain ugly in my opinion (especially the headlights).

But you know what they say, opinions may vary. There is this other thing they say about opinions (something to the effect that everybody has one), but I am not going to quote that one.:)

Looks like in order to squze in 7 people, 2nd and 3rd row seats barely have any leg rooms at all. Besides, it's a Volvo, known for ugly styling and unreliable.

Number #1 -- Volvo dealers. I dunno if it is the cold weather when they go to the "motherland" for training or what but every Volvo dealer I've ever been to has downright RUDE. As in, "no you can't sit in the car until you tell me you want it", "I don't care what kind of price you got from the dealer two towns over, go buy it there and take it for service there too".

Number #2 -- Huge spread between stripper (few sent over the Pond), "nicely equipped" ( don't send enough the bond), and "loaded to the gills" (too many on the lots). Dovetails nicely with the above to yield phrases like "Well if don't like the felt covered floor you could get the other model, but that has the intercooled multi-stage turbo engine, so its starts at $43K...

Number #3 -- Goofy parts sourcing. You need the hose that connects the thermostat to the upper radiator? Well, you have to order the kit that comes with the heater core flush kit. It is $350.

Not a fan of Volvo...

My cousin gave me her old 850 wagon. After three trips to the dealer I gave it back!

In addition, Volvo has a poorly designed incapable AWD system used by its XC wagons.

Check out a thread in Comparisons folder. Drew posted a link to a British site whish has a video of XC70 vs Audi Allroad vs Subaru Outback. Very interesting!!! (being a fan of Subaru, I was hurt. Especially since they "forgot" to mention [or I just missed it] that Subaru is only twice cheaper)

On the subject of Volvo dealers, renov8r hit it on the head - they actually REFUSED to talk to me when I came in while comparison-shopping (which eventually ended up an MDX purchase). Granted, i was in my gym clothes, but we are talking about REFUSAL TO TALK TO A CUSTOMER!!! A few days later, the dealership sent me a letter thanking me for stopping by and asking why I did not complete "the deal" and what they need to improve in the future to win my business  There was not enough paper in the world for me to reply to them!!! So, I decided to "save the forests".

Gee vip9,
I thought gym clothes were considered Black Tie in Brooklyn!;) Or did you ask the guy if you could test drive it for thuds? :D

As far as the AWD system, the article I read said it was new and believe it or not sounded just like the VTM system on our MDX's . Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery! Also, "Volvo" sounds like something you'd find in a human anatomy book!!

The main difference between the Volvo AWD system and the MDX's seems to be that the Volvo's has a center differential.

Oh, remery, I was afraid your New Year resolution was to stop busting my chops. :(
Thank god I was wrong :D

I like the looks. Sort of the good point from the MDX ( windshield back) and the good from the X5 (hood, front).

Anyway it would not come up on my radar screen because it does not offer significant improvements from the MDX.

Also I see know place for a decent NAV (a standard for all future purchases, and it will have to be as good as or better than Acura's).

Also look at the seating. There must be only 3" between the middle and rear seats. The middle seats are not exactly blessed either.

From another post. Seems like a lot of upgrades from the MDX to me:

268hp 2.9 Bi-Turbo Inline-6
6.5-Inch DVD Navigation System
Dynamic Stability Control, with RSC
RSC - Active Roll Stability Control System
Infra-Red Night Vision System
Haldex Electronic AWD
Dolby Pro-Logic II Surround Sound System
13 HK Speakers, 305 Watt Alpine Amp.
140 Watt Active-Subwoofer
6 Disc In-Dash CD/MiniDisc
7-Inch Rear DVD/CD Entertainment System
ABS/EBD/EBA/DSTC/RSC
18-Inch Rims

It also has Bi-Xenon headlamps (High and Low beam HIDs)

The XC90's cargo space is at 84.9 cubic feet of space compared to MDXs 81.5. I guess the third row can't be that much smaller if not comparable with the X.

Yep vip9,
Nothing has changed for the new year except I extended the olive branch to ghost at our Midwest Senior Tribal Leader Summit at my house and there's pictures posted in the Gallery to prove it. You have a clan of MDX owners there in Brooklyn, how come you guys don't get together and post some pics like we friendly folks in the Heartland have done? Ghost drove 500 miles to get to my place while you guys are probably within walking distance of one another. 3 or 4 MDXs in front of the Brooklyn Bridge would be quite an impressive photo so get a charisma implant and go for it. :D :D
MrPrescott
Looks a lot like the bimmer, only slightly longer. Very nice!

But from the looks of it, I wouldn't want to try to get into the 3rd row seat.
Drew
Well, there is some sort of small footwell for the 3rd row, as well as the fact that the entire 2nd row moves forward to varying positions, just like the M-class. As such, it's not too bad. As they said, "reasonable comfort" for shorter trips.

At first.. I thought.. maybe I got the MDX too soon, cause this XC90 might be better..
So I went to the car show.. and the guy there let me clam up over the bars to see
the car a lot closer..

This car does have lots new hightech toys.. the night vision and all,
but to me.. only the night vision would be a problem to install on the MDX..
as of the dvd and md system.. it's all options for the car.. which means
we can spent about the same or less money to get the same thing on MDX..
One thing I really think it is better than MDX is the 6 side airbags.
MDX only have 2...

About the 3 row.. I think it's a joke.. I don't think any kids that can sit without a
add-on chair can put his or her feet into that tiny space.. it won't even fit my fist..

So.. besides the new gadges and the side air-bags.. I don't find a reason to chose the XC 90..
And I think everyone here knows what MDX have that's better, so I won't repeat them.

BTW.. after I check every SUV in the LA auto show.. I still think MDX is the best choice, unless you only want a 5 seater and don't like the seadans.. and you have lots money to spend..
MDX should be the best for it's pirce and for the function.
:D
