Monthly Allocation - Click HERE for Original Thread

RGWomack
Rather than posting this every month on several different threads I will post my monthly allocation here so you can compare what is being built at different times of the month, models colors etc., As I get the build dates I will post them. This may help you determine when your dealer will have certain colors and build dates as Acura tends to paint in batches.

I was also told today that dealers at this time are not being constrained as to what they can order and can pretty much order what they want. This does not mean they can get more MDX's, but if they need certain models or colors they can get them on their allocations.

No Havasu available yet.

Thank you, thank you, Roger. Speaking for myself during the interminable pre-delivery wait, I feel less lost and more in the loop thanks to your efforts and info.

We're lucky to have you.
Bravo.

I agree colliek. My wife and I were told by a salesman at a car show that he isn't getting any red MDX's yet. But I have seen others say they have red and according to RGWomack's list, he will have one in Feb.

Great info RGWomack, I will look forward to seeing your list.

Now I just need to move to Washington :D

Thank you for this information. I wish that all dealerships can make such information available to their customers. I have been waiting for a Redrock Touring/Nav since 5/1/01. I am the first one on that list but still get nothing from "the 3rd largest Acura dealership in US" (so they claimed). I am starting to wonder if they forgot to order it or they have sold it to someone else.

Thanks Roger for the information. I think I have desided to wait.

I just want to echo what others have said that I appreciate your input. Now I can press the numerous dealers to order my Red 188!

Thanks everyone, glad to assist.

It was announced in this mornings meeting.
MA/SL Mahogany/Saddle will be discontinued in March.
GR/EN Granite/Ebony will be discontinued in April.

I don't know why, MA was the best selling color with saddle interior last year with Acura. And I sure like the Granite. So if your plans are getting one of these colors, you better have MA on your dealers next month allocation.

Havasu will begin production in April.
GCK
Roger:

This is real surprising that Acura is discontinuring the GG. I was not a big favorite of the Mahogany, but certainly thought that the GG was the best color.

Is there a reason for this?

RGWomack
I don't understand it either, GR/EN was on of my favorites. I would think they would replace the GR/EN with some type of gray color but nothing in the pipe yet. MA was not a big seller at our dealership but I guess nationwide it was the biggest seller with saddle interior. Acura may have a reason but I sure don't know what it is. I'll keep you posted.
Rail
I guess I can completely forget about ever getting the Mahogany touch up paint now ;)
GCK
I agree that GG/Eboby is a very popular color and the wait times here in the Bay Area are around 6 months for it. I am quite certain that folks who are waiting for it might never see it :(

The MA might have been the popular color with the saddle interior. Had I not been able to get a red rock, MA was my second choice. I am sure glad that I got the red rock though!
Mikel
We too liked the GG exterior best, but did not want black for the interior. Given the choices available with saddle, MA was the only way to go...

Rail- is it true there is not touch-up paint available? I could not get it a year ago because it seems that mahogany was a late additon to the color chart or something.

I'll do some checking on the MA touch up paint when I go back to work tomorrow.

Roger
RGWomack
I just called work, we have 3 bottles of Mahogany touch up paint.
I don't know why no one else seems to have it.

You can email me at: RGWomack@womacknet.net or call my parts department at 503.252.2872 and see if its worth shipping.
MDXtrous
It's interesting that it's the best seller, since I don't see too many on the streets at least here in NY. Most often seen here is SS, then maybe GG, Black, and Meisa Beige.
RGWomack
MDXtrous,
Not the best seller overall, just the best seller with saddle interior. I would guess based on our sales SI/EN would be no.1.

When I scheduled my 7500 mile maintenance I requested a bottle of touch up paint for my Mahogany MDX. The dealer said he didn't have any in stock, but would get some.

When I brought the X in the following week he had the touch up paint. No mention of any problems.

When I asked them to order Mahogany touch up paint for a 01 MDX he said that he would need the color code from inside the door. Once I game them the color code, no problem.
mjhorwitz
At our dealership here in South Florida, Mahogany is the least popular color. With the Saddle interior, Mesa Beige is number 1, followed closely by Black. Even White and Red are selected twice as often as Mahogany.

We will sorely miss Granite, which was my personal favorite.

mjhorowitz,
Mahogany was not our no. 1 either. That info came out in some national stats from Acura. I wonder where they were most popular?
NaNaLi
My dealer gave me a build date of 1/27 - 1/31 for a 182 Mahogany. Does this sound right to you? Your allocation list is blank for 182 MA/SL. Please advise.
Thanks

I have an order in for a 182 mahogany since late September.
Does Mahogan only come with Saddle interior? If not, I can't believe they are axing the Mahogany color. My wife is not going to be happy about this!!! :)

NaNaLi, you are fine, I would be concerned if it was not on this allocation. A few MA may get in on the next one. But for those waiting I would have a second color choice ready.

Roger,

A few So Cal dealerships (Valencia, Downey) tell me that they've never even seen a RedRock MDX. I know that they are out there! (I see them both on the Internet, and on the freeway!)

Are certain dealships getting more RedRocks than others?

rflagg:

I got mine in Cerritos, so LA dealers do have the Red Rocks. I havent' seen one on Roger's list now (188).
rflagg
GCK,

At Cerritos, I'm #5 on the wait list for a Red 188. (Which means I've got 6 months to wait at the very least!)

I've got Metro and Valencia Acura supposedly ordering me one on their next allocation. But I'll believe it when they tell me the VIN!

Pasadena and Keys Acura refuse to order it. (They will call me if they get one in.)

IMO, there should be a better way at obtaining this car!

rflagg
ifeldman
rflagg,

I think Ive called every dealer in LA/Orange County when I was looking for my GG MDX. I ended up hitting the jackpot when I called Metro, as someone had just cancelled their order and I was able to take his place. I only had to wait a month to get the car. Metro is a great dealer to work with and wont pull a fast one on you like some others would.

The dealers that wont order the cars and make you come in is a game of first one there wins. I went to test drive a GG (it was a week before mine was due in, I just wanted to drive it). I got there 30 minutes after the salesman told me the car was ready. When I came back from the test drive, the car was sold. You really have to get there as soon as you can and start the paperwork.

The Acura dealer in Torrance is right near the Acura headquarters, and they get the most allotment of MDXs. However, they know this and charge a premium, which is basically $1895 for running boards and $395 for wheel locks and rear mud guard. You can order from them and probably get it fast. They had quoted me 1 month for my GG.

Good luck with your search.
GCK
rflagg:

Sorry to hear about the length of time you have to wait for yours. I was the first one to get a red from Cerritos. At that time, the two guys ahead of me didn't want a red. Lucky me :) Hopefully, the 5 others ahead of you might like something else.

As ifeldman says, keep calling, be persistent and grab it when you get it.

megabuck2
ifeldman,

maybe the dealer did pull a fast one...not just on you.
I wonder how, with the wait list being few weeks to few months, that someone could cancel and you take their place? Its hard to believe that no one was #2 after #1 pulled out from buying. Perhaps there were no wait list for this dealer but its hard to believe.

Were Metro taking deposits?

Anyway, I am at least happy for you that you did not wait too long for your 'DX!

See Ya,

Mike
ifeldman
Mike,

Metro did not require a deposit. I just had to fax a copy of my driver's license and a credit application. There was no obligation. I do not know if there was anyone else waiting for a GG.

I think people put deposits or orders at multiple dealers and when they get one, they cancel from the others. I could have gotten the GG one week earlier at another dealer (if I said I wanted it instead of test driving it), but I knew mine was already built and I had the VIN number, so I just waited.
RGWomack
rflagg,
Right now there are no constraints on ordering, so they can get pretty much what they want. Our GM does the ordering and he just don't like the color so we order very few if any. The first two we ordered back in November I sold both of them. But it depends on who is doing the ordering. I would find out who does the ordering and talk to them.
rflagg
Thanks for the input, Roger.

After looking at your allocation, it looks like your MDX's will be built in Feb with a couple being built in March.

Valencia Acura told me that on Jan 20, they will place my order. I doubt that orders will be placed on a Sunday. What do you think?

Is there a specific timeframe where orders are placed? (i. e. 2 weeks before the allocation list comes out.) Or are orders placed whenever you wish?

rflagg

RGWomack
rflagg,
The MDX orders that will be placed in the next week or so will be for March/April, deliveries, we will get that Allocation/Dealer on-order report about the 7th or 8th of February, that list will have some build dates, the following week we will have an update to that list with the rest of the build dates. All orders go in at the same time, usually toward the end of the month.
swhtech
I have a friend who does a lot of business with an Acura dealer in Mass.....I called them up and they said that they would place an order for a 182 Mahogany TODAY, with no deposit or sales order because it was from a referral from someone they do a lot of business with. It would have a March build date (obviously because the color is being cancelled) and it would be delivered in late March or early April depending on actual build date. The sales person told me that today is the last day he can order a Mahogany due to the color cancellation....is that possibly true?? Anyhow, I am psyched! I have another order that was placed at the beginning of November with another dealer, and I have no idea when that is slated for delivery....salesmen has not returned my phone calls!

Thanks for the info. It's wonderful to see this in print!

Does this mean that there will be April build dates for Havasu Blue so that there will possibly be April/May delivery dates for Havasu Blue?

Can you tell I'm anxious for my truck????

Kim,
All I know at this point is they will begin production in April, I don't know when in April. As soon as I see one on our allocation I'll post it.

Roger,

Maybe you've answered this in another forum, and I'm probably a little dense but my question is this:
If I want a RR Touring, does the dealer decide when my turn comes or does the "allocation" by Acura? In otherwords, if there are 50 people "ahead" of me to order an MDX in various configs/colors (let's presume all colors but RR) does the dealer order those 50 vehicles before me, or would I be lucky to get the first RR on his allocation? Does the allocation decide config/color or does the dealer order what he wants?
Thanks so much for your info!
metmdx
RGWomack
metmdx,
At this time there are no real constraints on ordering, so we can order pretty much what we want, however that does not mean we can order as many as we want just what models we want. If your dealer is alloted 10-15 MDX's per month and you are 40 on the list you are a few months out. If someone orders the same model as you and then cancels and no one else is ahead of you with that make and model then you would move to the top. That is how we were doing it before we stopped taking orders. We all order the same way, nothing goes to Acura with your name on it. Everything dealing with the customer is done internally in each store and may vary greatly from store to store. I would think they could give you a pretty good idea based on allocation (which does vary some) and placed orders, if they are upfront and willing to do that. Your salesperson may not have a clue, try speaking with the manager.
rflagg
Roger,

Let's say your dealership orders a RR 188. Can the factory not deliver that particular order?

Or is it pretty much a guarantee that the RR 188 will be part of your next allocation. (Assuming that you are within your allocation limits.)

rflagg, it's possible but not probable, I thought there was a problem a month or so with the RE/SL MDX's because none or very few were showing up on our allocation. Then I found out my GM who does the ordering just doesn't like red as well.

Did you check with Clair Acura, I got a call from Andy Clair on the 11th( and we only stopped by a week before) and he said he just got in a Burgandy Touring MDX, but we had already had our hearts set on a Black/Saddle and could wait til March. I am sure it probably got snatched up by someone as eager as you, but it is worth a try...:D
swhtech
Clair is actually where the order got placed....my other deposit is at Herb Connolly in Framingham. I dealt with a salesman named Doug, not sure what his last name was....nice guy....my friend told him I was in the market for an X, and he said to have me call him and he would take care of us....can't wait!

Hey Roger: any new allocation lists to post ?
'X MOM
Roger your list is great.....until you see no X built when yours was supposed to be. '02 white touring supposedly built 1/27-1/31 and shipped 1/30. Wonder if dealer is taking me for a ride as has been suggested in response to my earlier post today. Could I be missing something? It does not look like my car exists yet! Thanks for your info!

Roger, I get the impression that your allocation list and build dates are for MDXs ordered by YOUR dealership. I also get the impression that some of the forum members think that your allocation list is the Bible for when any MDXs are being built for anywhere. Care to comment?
RGWomack
frostyra,
The allocation I post monthly is just for my dealership. The reason I post it has nothing to do with what other dealers may be getting as we all recieve different models, colors and numbers of vehicles. It is more for comparison of build dates as Acura tends to paint colors in batches, so if someone is not getting information from their dealer as to build dates it may be helpful determining when certain colors are being built.
YUJIY
Any word on why they discontinued Granite Green, seeing that it was a popular color, and if there will be a dark grey replacement in 2003? I think Acura is now lacking in a dark color alternative to black.
DaleB
So far no one has been able to determine a logical reason.
