Got in the car today, turned it on and had no Trip computer display and the radio does not turn on. The A/C system works but only in full auto mode as there is no way to control the A/C without the trip computer display and controls - they need to re-think this design. Also, the theft alarm system light flashes all the time even while driving. This does not look good. I was afraid of getting the problem with the radio that has been reported but it seems I have an even worse problem.
Took it to the dealer and they say that I have to leave the car as they look puzzled. I will leave it on Monday morning. I'll let everyone know what they say IF they can figure it out.
By the way, I pulled out the fuses after I got home and they look OK. After further checks, the two front accessory power plugs are dead too.
I really hope this is just a blown fuse somewhere and not a faulty electrical system component problem.
If anyone has any ideas of what other things to check, let me know. Thanks.

This sounds exactly like the same problem i had about a month ago. I turned the car on, turned on the cd, then i plugged in an air compressor to fill up the tires. Then kazam!!!, everything knocks out. Never had a problem with any of my other cars before while listening to tunes while running a portable compressor. A quick fix of the fuse was all that was required. However finding the right fuse took a few minutes. The correct fuse is located in the foot area in the passenger side. Hope this helps you. Enail me if this works.

KevinAdams1,
Thanks for your help! You were right on the money. I did not see that fuse panel over there. The sad thing was that the dealer service tech that looked at the problem only pointed to fuse panels under the hood and drivers side. I asked if there were any others and he said that he did not think so. You saved me a trip back to the dealer.
For future reference in case anyone else has the problem, the fuse panel to check for this situation is located on the passenger side kick panel. It was the uppermost left fuse (the first of two 15 amp fuses). It is labelled in the panel as the front accessory power fuse.
I don't know why it failed as I only have a cell phone car adapter that I use. After replacement, I used it again and it did not blow the fuse. So I'm not sure what caused the problem. I am going to run and get some spare fuses just in case. I'm also still confused why they wired the radio and trip computer to go offline if the accessory power fuse is blown. I'm not an expert in auto electrical wiring, but it seems odd to do it that way. Maybe someone here has an answer on why it is done this way. This ciruit appears to be very touchy and I guess we should be careful when using devices with accessory power.
I have been following this site since it started mostly lurking as I don't think that I can add as much to discussions since there are some real knowledgeable people on here. I just wanted to thank all of the people that are so helpful in sharing info and tips. I originally followed the town hall on Edmunds but I find this site much better.
Hopefully one day I can return the favor to someone else by having a solution to a question that they have.
I am really enjoying my EG Touring MDX. I'm not a fan of Bose systems, but after this experience I'm ecstatic when I hear it playing. It was the only thing that I was not thrilled with the car (other than the water streaking from the rear view mirrors).

| Where did you procure the fuses from? When I tried plugging in my phone charger, it wouldn't start. I assumed my phone charger may have gone bad.... I guess I need to take a second look now. |

Rusty,
I got the replacement fuse from the fuse box under the hood on the passengers side. It has three spare fuses in that box one of which was 15 A that can be used to replace the one that blew out. I got replacements at the local auto parts store. Just make sure you get the small fuses, not the larger ones that are more common.
About the problem you are describing, if your radio and trip computer display are working then it is probably not the same problem. You should probably check that charger unit in another car to see if you get the same problem. |
