Did I miss the price for group purchase on painted rear deflector/
Wonder if any aftermarket company will be coming out with their own version of the rear spoiler / air deflector? Anybody seen one on the net?

| If you plan on putting a cargo box (Thule or Yakima), you may not want a tailgate deflector. The deflector gets in the way if you want to put a box on your roof rack (unless you get a short box or Thule/Yakima crossbars). Just a friendly warning. |

Hi All,
We've got 9 of the 15 for the Rear Tailgate Deflector Group Buy. We're almost there.
For those of you who are still unsure, I offer the following:
The Acura price for the deflector is $379. Tim's normal low, low price is $297.70. He's offering a group buy price of only $275. That's more than $100 off the dealer MSRP!
Tim's URL link to the Acura Installation Instructions are below:
http://www.hondacuraworld.com/instr...teDeflector.pdf
I don't know how much more time we'll get to generate interest, but I assume it'll end before the end of February.
If you want it, sound off!
Have a great week!

| I just wanted to remind everyone about the Tailgate deflector groupbuy. Let's accessorize and save $$$$$. |

So who do we send $$$ to? And when do all of us do it? I need to know.
Thanks |

Fireblade6,
Once we reach 15 or more people interested, Tim will give us thumbs up and which point we can call him and place the order.

I would like one painted silver.
Thanks |

Come all you people sitting on the fence! We just need a couple more! You may have read from Tim today, he can now paint Red Rock Pearl!
He told me that if the group buy happens, we can get them bought, painted, and shipped for $400. (He also uses a clear coat finish. The finshed product will be a perfect match to your MDX!)
So, get on board now before the group buy ends at the end of the month!!

| Don't they already come with the same silver finish as the fender flares? |
|
|
| rflagg |
From what I understand, they are a hard plastic. They are not painted. I think the color of the plastic is black.
(Some one who actually has one is better suited to answer this question.)

Come on people! Just 4 more!
$275 for a non-painted one, or $400 for a painted one. |

Highly recommended (painted). I got mine from Tim (Silver) and it makes the MDX look so much sportier.
$400 is a great deal considering I payed $423. |

| I want to be in but I'm not scheduled to get my SS until Mar 21!!:( How long will the buy last? |
|
|
| gadgetdog |
I looked at the PDF file and it requires that I punch the holes???
anyone installed this yourself?
thanks! |
|
|
| rflagg |
gadgetdog,
There are numerous posts with tips on how to install it. It is very easy. Yes, you drill 4 holes. But there is NO guesswork to this. The metal is dimpled at the locations that you need to drill. You will be drilling through metal that is about 1/8 of an inch thick. (A piece of cake!)
Do a search for installtion tips. (There is one post that shows pictures of each step.)
So, can we count you in for adding your name to the list?

The buy expires at the end of the month. (Unless Tim changes the rules!)
Since you know what color you will be getting, I recommend you put your name on the list and talk to Tim concerning the details of when you physically make the purchase.

Don't be afraid of this. Drilled holes are necessary on some of the accessories such as your roof rack and mud flaps. You can always buy the item and pay the dealer to install it for you. But if you look at other posts AND review the installation instructions that are on Tim's WEB site, you will find the installation to be a piece of cake!
The rear air deflector is not an aftermarket item. It is an OEM item that is designed to be installed on the MDX. The instructions from Acura indicate that you should use touchup paint on the area that you drill. This protects the metal from rust. Also, the foam sticky tape washers keep mosture from going into the holes.
Hope this helps!

| Cool so far - can anyone comment on the effectiveness? Does it make that much of a difference in keeping the back window clean? |
|

| We have 15, so pick up the phone! You have until Friday March 1st to take advantage, when the group buy will end, which is one week. I'm going to be ending the front air deflector group buy at the same time. |

| I'm not sure it keeps off that much, considering my windows are still getting dirty, however, when they are color matched, they look really good. They are pretty common on the RX300 and BMW X5s. It makes a big difference!! |

I can't comment too much about the effectiveness, as I try to keep the car relatively clean, but I can say:
1. The is no increase in windnoise.
2. They look great either painted or not
3. It is absolutely the most stupidly simple thing to install ever. Only the shiftknob is easier, and that's because it just unscrews and rescrews.
All you need is a center punch or even an ice pick -- the metal is already marked on the inside of the tailgate. So just put the punch on the mark and give it a good whack with your fist. Then, put a smaller drill bit on your drill ( I think 3/16ths to start, but check previous posts). Put the drill bit right on the punch mark you just made so that it won't walk. If you gave the punch a good wack, this isn't an issue. Then drill with light pressure at full speed until you are through. Then go back with a larger bit, I think 3/8s", but check. Same thing - high speed, light pressure. Repeat for the 3 other holes. Tim mentioned a good point to me -- you can either use touch up paint and wax, like in the directions, or just put some clear silicon caulk in each of the holes and on the bolts, and drop them through the holes. Just tighten each of the 4 bolts with a 10mm rachet and you're done. Literally, even taking your time 30-45 minutes. Silicon isn't a bad way to go, as it is a better water repellant than touch up paint, and doesn't require waxing. The whole process is pretty idiot proof, I promise. |

:(
Being the impatient person that I am, and not seeing much interest about 1.5 weeks ago, I went ahead and bought mine unpainted. I'm still happy with the price I paid, but it would have been nice to get it painted (I forgot to ask about it since I didn't see it on the website). Oh well... |

Fine by me, but right now they are on backorder. I'll be posting a detailed listing of all of the stuff now on backorder for the MDX.
Just my luck :(
I'll post when stock comes in. |
