That's the question I'm struggling with...while I don't foresee a need for navigation now, I'm sure I'll be moving in a few years so that begs the question...navi or non-navi?
Given I want to upgrade my stereo, I suppose I have a few options:
1) get the navi, try to figure out a way to replace head unit and still keep navi voice. (I'm leaning towards this option if possible)
2) get the navi, settle for existing head unit, upgrade amps, and speakers
3) go aftermarket all around: head unit and navi.
My dealer tells me that with or without the navi, my wait is still the same.
Any thoughts??? I'd love some input to help me sort through this decision!!!:confused: |

| I like the advice short and sweet. Anyone know if option 1 is even possible??? Can you replace your stereo head unit and somehow wire in your navi voice??? |

I didn't get Nav because I really didn't need it. But I kinda regret it because it would have been something really cool to show off to my friends/family...
But the MDX itself is cool enough :) |

I got Navi on my car and I am so glad I did...recent trip from Vegas to home (LA) Caltran shut down the 15 freeway and the navi did a wonderful job of give me a detour/alternate way around the traffic.

| I didn't get the Navi because of the price - too much for something I won't use that much. However, all three of your options have Navi, so the answer for you is to get the Navi. The Acura Navi is supposed to be one of the best. From what I've read on the board (which is not everything, of course), many seem content with your option 2. |

| I find I use mine all the time. Even if I'm not doing things like looking for the closest (fill in the blank) store near me, I just get a kick out of watching my route. If you like gadgets even a little bit, get the Navi - you'll be glad you did. |

I think you may have hit it right on the head...here I was looking for a practical reason to spend an extra $2k, when all I really wanted was someone to come forward and let me know that its ok to love gadgets. Thanks!!! |

| I was having a hard time justifying the navi, but got it because it meant that I could get a car in 2 days instead of months! Yes, it's fun to show off, but I would say that I'm disappointed by the coverage. It's my understanding that next year's upgrade will provide much more extensive coverage. I'm just wanted to let you know that it doesn't have all the streets that something like Microsoft Streets & Trips has. It's my understanding that the data that is there is more accurate, and I've found that to be true so far. |

we have the nav and love it (after a week of owning the car)
we actually requested, and got, a base + nav. the rational we used was "you never know when you're getting get lost". i'm glad this excuse worked, but i would have liked to have the nav regardless, being the gadget freak that i am. it's also nice to be able to say "where's the closest Arby's". :D |

I recall seeing a thread where someone found the mute wire for the nav unit, and wired up the voice nav to aftermarket HU. do a search for it

| If you are thinking of upgrading your strereo system then get a non-navi system. Save the $ 2000.00 and apply it towards an Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse or Panasonic deck with a built-in fold out monitor. You will get better fidelity and an option of adding a navi system should you decide later on. For the $ 2000.00 if you shop around you can probably include a pair of decent aftermarket speakers for your front and back replacements. If you really do not care to upgrade your oem system then go for the navi system, as I found out you never know when you need it. It really is a useful tool when you find yourself in an area you are not familliar with and you need food,gas or an ATM. I have managed to keep the navis system and install an aftermarket head unit so anything is possible. |
