Has anyone gotten chrome rims, aka wheels dipped on their MDX Touring? If so, how did it turn out? Pictures? I'd be curious to see/know.
Picked up my chrome Touring wheels last week and they look GREAT! Mirror finish and all. I also got Black Chrome Acura emblems on the centercaps to match the black chrome Acura name on the back of the MDX. I've seen Chrome and Gold emblems, all look good, just personal preference.

I saw someone else on this board somewhere (or the Edmunds.com Townhall) say they didn't like the chrome handles on the MDX because it didn't match anything else on the side of the MDX (ie - no other chrome). First, I think they're nuts. Second, and more importantly, chrome handles are the PERFECT accent/compliment to CHROME WHEELS!!! :)

I'll try to use my friend's digital camera to post pictures, but I don't know how long that will take :(, as I'm going on Vacation for a week starting Friday :). Trust me, it looks GOOOOOOD.

Chrome wheels may be more delicate, but all you need is Windex to clean them. Besides, I'm already asking for trouble buying a Black MDX which is harder to keep clean, but when it is, it is one sleek MDX! (I also have the rear tailgate deflector)

One thing I was warned about, DO NOT EVER USE FIX-A-FLAT stuff, it erodes the chrome on the inner part of the wheel.

Hope you'll enjoy yours!

Where did you get your wheels dipped and how much did you pay for them?

Thanks...

$750 plus tax (7.5% in San Diego) = $806.25. Normally the place charges $800 plus tax to have them dipped, but he cut me a deal because he made me wait an extra week, when he told me he'd have them ready earlier. Cool guys, they're actually the source for several local dealers in San Diego, CA.

All I did was drive up, they took my original Touring rims off, slapped the tires on the new Chrome Touring rims, and voila, 45 minutes later I was driving off with shiny chrome Touring rims. Of course, I didn't get to keep my old rims.

The store's called San Diego Motoring Accessories and they're in Oceanside (about 30 minutes north) on Peacock Blvd. If you're not local, this place may not be able to help, but I have noticed several advertisers on the internet and the back sections of Car and Driver that can swap chrome rims for your original rims, I only checked out one (before finding out about SDMA through my parts department) and they said they didn't have the MDX Touring rims yet, but that was over a month ago.

Good Luck.

Sidenote: If you can afford it, you might look into buying larger rims, 18" or more, that are also wider. I kind of wanted to put big fat tires on my MDX and enhance the sport in SPORT Utility Vehicle, but I guesstimated it might cost upwards of $1k more, but then again if you could find a buyer for your current rims and tires, it really wouldn't be much more than just chroming your rims. I did it with my '99 Accord, 225/45 VR 17" and looks great, and sold my original rims and tires for $600, and so ending up costing me only $800 bucks for bigger and fatter wheels. But with our MDX we didn't want to stray too far from the original look, besides I coulnd't figure out who'd want our rims?
Thanks for the info ucsdtriton. Very helpful stuff!
