Okay...My teacher once told me that there is no such thing as a dumb question. So here it goes ....Tim just sent me the shift knob, and from what I read you just screw it on....But....I can't get the old one off!! I did manage to get the lower chrome boot unattached? I see these 2 black plastic prongs...I've tried to unscrew the old knob...I assume you turn counter clockwise and unscrew?? Either the dealer locktighted my knob on....or I'm not turning hard enough for fear of breaking something. Please confirm that you simply unscrew old knob ?? Is there any chance of bending anything...breaking anything..damaging those plastic black pcs..etc.
Please go easy on me with the abuse...I'm a forum rookie !! Maybe I should re-think the self installation of the tailgate deflector if I can't get this thing on !! |

OK, calm down. You're right, you are just not putting enough grip into it. Just unscrew the existing one counter-clockwise, and put on the wood one. Then check out how smoooooth it feels.
Nothing to it. Tailgate deflector is also easy -- just look for previous posts from forum members to find out all you need. |

| I was also afraid of unscrewing too hard. But I knew that's how it came off, and went for it. My only issue was that the leather one has a metal piece that extends longer than the wood one. When I screwed the wood one on, there were still some "screw ridges" exposed. I don't know if that's supposed to be. |

| I have the same problem with the screw threads. It does'nt really bother me, but I don't know why Acura didn't make it extend an extra 1/4" or so. |

| seems like everyone had that issue where the wood knob doesn't extend enough to completely cover the threads. When I installed mine, I found a thread on this board where a member added a black rubber washer/ring to the shifter. I did the same and think it looks great! |

| Yea...I agree with you guys..there's no way around the screw threads showing issue ...my guess is that Acura wanted to have enough screw threads available to allow you to be able to turn the knob to the exact alignment location (Square). I guess there some tolerance, it seems excessive, but I guess it's better than runnning out of threads and not being able to align. Maybe they also wanted to make sure other aftermarket knobs could be installed as well? |
