Paint Sealant? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi all,

Thanks for all the messages. This has been a very infomative forum for me while I wait on my MDX, Black/Ebony Premium with base carrier kit, moonroof visor, and running boards.

Anyway, the dealer I've ordered from is throwing in a protection package, which is the Acura protection package, plus a "paint sealant." Am I correct in assuming that this paint sealant is simply poorly applied wax, i.e."dealer installed swirls." If this is true, I think I'll ask them to leave the "paint sealant" off and let me wax it myself with fine Zaino products. :)

Thanks for any info.

From my experiance these are just dealer money makers. These are NOT needed, as well as the fabric protectant, and the noise proofing and the enviromental protection, some goop the put on the hinges. I had to pass on 2 cars (read my other post) because the dealers would not omit these items.

Well, it's probably a polymer rather than a wax, but yes, it's doubtful they'll be heading over to do cars at the Concours after they apply it to yours.

Good idea. BTW, if you intend to Zaino then the first paint-prep you'll have to do is remove their sealant anyway. I'd go one step further and tell them to stop the prep as soon as they pull the shipping plastic off it -- don't let them even wash it.
