After reading threads on detailing I have a question about vinyl care.
Is Vinylex (or for that matter other vinyl products) for cleaning and protecting or just a protectant?
If so what do I use for vinyl cleaning and what do I use as a protectant.

10 years ago, and before Zaino or Vinylex was even a name, I went to 3 different upholstery shops, 2 of which specialized in classic car restoration.
They all told me to use plain clear silicon spray (on the cloth first) for any vinyl, and use Lexol for leather.
This was 10 years ago, but Vinylex does seem to be highly regarded in all circles, and if this site is any indication, Zaino is even better for leather than Lexol. |

| Meguiars #40 vinyl & rubber cleaner is a fantastic cleaner and protectant. Just don't leave the closed bottle in your car parked in the sun; it'll go BOOM!, as my daughter found out in her Corolla. |

over on the audiworld forum, the most popular vinyl cleaner is 303 aerospace protectant. It is not a shiny as others, and most importantly, it doesn't "fog up" the inside of your windshield like many others do. it repels dust too. this is the stuff they use to clean and protect the Stealth bombers.
you can check it out at properautocare.com and many other sites, or order it directly from the company -303. for 5 bucks they send you a bunch of samples of stuff.
IMHO - 90% of the time, I simply clean the vinyl with a damp microfiber cloth.
Vinylex is ok, I think that the 303 is a notch above. |

| On the forum for my Toyota Tundra the folks are also big on 303. I couldn't buy it anywhere around me so ordered it from one of the retailer’s listed on their web page (www.303products.com). Kind of pricey at $30.00 a quart delivered. If it every quits raining here I will try it out.:) |

That is pricey. I have not had a car in the last 25 years that had a cracked dash, discolored or torn vinyl interior when I had sold it, donated it, or ran it into the ground when I was using silicone spray or Vinylex. 303 may be a notch above but when I can't see an advantage it's not even a consideration. Of course I use a sunshield in my windshield too. |
