Installing Moonroof Visor - Click HERE for Original Thread

Simple question...don't intend to insult anyone's intelligence, especially seeing that people are installing their own massive accessories and drilling holes into their new precious vehicles (which I could never even think of doing), but how is the moonroof visor installed? Is it double sided sticky tape? Clamped on?

Ordering from Tim and wondering what to do when I get it in.

Haven't done it yet...
Waiting for the car to arrive... any day now..
Waiting for the accessories to arrive... see above.

My understanding is that it clips in place in two places, no drilling necessary. I also suspect that directions will be included from Tim.

Mikey
It takes just two metal clips and two pieces of protection tape to prevent scratching.
very simple and no drilling! just 2 clips, screws and tape.

Before I try this I want to make sure that I have the correct part. I got the visor from HAW and the pn is 08r01-sok-201. On Tim's site this is the same number but there is an MDX after the part number. The instructions state it is for a 2000 3.2 TL. It does not seem to fit the opening evenly so just checking first.

Chris
MGTD I just checked my instructions and you have the right part. Just line up the sides to be equal distance from the opening. It's pretty simple, just follow the directions.
Thanks for looking. I will finish the install tomorrow.

Chris
Yup -- same part for the TL and MDX...my part # on the box was a TL but the instructions were the MDX, and the part #s cross-ref.

Fairly easy install, Tonka/MGTD, tho you DO have to put a fair bit of downward pressure on the corners of the visor to get the weatherstripping and clips to seat. Or at least I did :)

I had a hard time getting the clips to seat. Most of my time was spent trying to get the clip snapped in. It's a little akward trying to hold down the pop up visor with one hand and then manipulate the clip up and under with the other. If there was a third hand it would probably been simple. It took me about an hour with about 50 minutes fighting with the darn clips.

It looks like it will help divert much of the outside air up and around the roof racks. I would think it would help aero dynamics and highway gas mileage. Anyone seen any difference in mileage with it on?
I removed my moonroof visor. It was dealer installed.

I removed it about two weeks ago after having it on for three months to see if there was a difference in noise, etc.
I find that I prefer it without the visor.

1. I think there is less noise, both with the moonroof open or closed.

2. Cleaner look.

3. Unobstructed view from the inside.
The verdict is still out as to whether or not I remove the visor. It does look much cleaner with out it and it is a ***** to clean around. As I'm trying to squirt off the soapy water off the roof and it's still backed up about 2-3" inside the visor. It takes a couple minutes to drain through those tiny little holes. Not to mention it's almost impossible to clean under the visor or chamois the moisture out when done.

I can't wait to try to polish and wax around it!
You can download the instructions on how to install the Moonroof Visor at http://www.hondacuraworld.com/store/MDX. Keep clicking “Next” at the bottom of the screen until you find the page that has the Moonroof Visor.

Then click on Acura MDX Moonroof Visor link or picture. At the bottom of the page click on the Installation Instructions (.pdf) link. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the instructions. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on you PC you can use the link just below the instructions.

You can download instructions for almost any option using these same instructions.

BTW, If you choose to buy from hondacuraworld (the best pricing I've found so far), Tim also sends you a copy of the installation instructions and a small (toy) MDX in a display case. I felt that my business was more appreciated buy Tim, then I did from my dealer.

If you need and MDX accessories Tim is the man!!.

Not a bad idea to make it a 2 person job if possible. Makes it easier to assure proper alignment. My father and I installed it about 10-15 minutes.
