 Walton is a crack! . Here in LA/OC/SD we folks turn to Chick Hearns and Stu Lance on KLAC 570 for the play by play commentating. NBC commentators, specifically Walton, do not call the game well at all and IS very biased!
Chick and Stu call it like it is . . . :7: |

Polytat,
So I guess you mute the TV and turn the radio on...sounds like a great idea.
It will be interesting to have the Sac fans hear the Chick Hearns broadcast and see wether he is baised towards the Lakers.
I sure hope Walton Sr. DOES NOT call Walton Jr.s game...can you imagine, he willl be frothing at the mouth anytime some one touches let alone levels his kid. Maybe he will get on the court and level a ref.

WOW! This was the most thrilling, tension-packed game of the series. I was on the edge of my bed the whole 4th OTR and hoping for a 2nd OT but I guess we'll have to wait again next year.
Wonderful series!!!

Great series - hats off to the Kings, but for all their talk about being a "better team", it came down to Shaq/Kobe vs. Bibby...and he almost won it by himself!
This should be a great matchup for many years to come as long as they can retain Bibby after next season.
Bring on the Nets! |

Great series! and hats off to Sac for hanging in there! maybe next year.
If the game went into 2nd OT, I don't think any one of the main players for both teams would be standing!
Now lets see which side of the country is better - West Vs. East. It will be a great series but I think Lakers will get the 3peat.

I'm tired from partying before, during, and after the game . .but, I will at least say a congrats to the Sacramento Kings for a well fought series. Keep the nucleus together and maybe you may make a run in the next few years.
Robyjo, it has been a pleasure exchanging takes back and forth. From one classy guy to another, thanks for the excitement and flare - and making me crack a smile from your responses!

Dang, Bibby almost beat the Lakers single-handedly. Darn close game. E.g. if C-Web doesn't blow his cool, if Christie can actually hit a jumper, or if the Kings can sink an extra free throw ... coulda woulda shoulda!
Isn't it amazing what a good, stable point guard can do for you? I can't imagine the Kings getting this far with Jason Williams at the point.
Lakers in six over the Nets. There's another really good point guard the Lakers will face.
Speaking of, this is my own opinion, but I get kind of sick of the hero-worship around Jason Kidd and how he's turned his life around. This is a guy who used to beat his wife, including punching her (HARD) in the car -- right in front of his son in the back seat. No wonder some folks can't take watching the NBA any more! |

Great assessment William, the Kings deserved to win the game. They had the calls, the ball, the movemnet, the score, and the home court to do so. But when as a team your 3-point shots are 10% or 2-20 is a pathetic number along with 14-30 at the line......the team didn't deserve it down the stretch. The Lakes were 27-33 at the line . .which is why they won the game.
The final few moments in regulation you can just see every player was lethargic - even the Daddy incompleting the little jump hook to send it into OT.
In OT. .. it really showed who wanted the win versus who was hoping for a win. Get this, Doug Christie with a clank in OT, Peja (Mr 3 Point Champ) with an AIRBALL shot, and CWebb afraid to take the last shot . . .ONLY Bibby was there to keep them close with a couple Js and the free throws.
Tough for the Kings, just too tough . . . all CWebb had to do was take up hit the Js and guarantee the win.....but HE can't and NEVER will . .can't be a winner when you don't have a leader to step up.
Again...my Lakes in 5 |

Take it to your heart...
Although I am a die hard Lakers fan, I think Sac will win it all next year. I guess it all depends on whether Lakers will have good trade off season and whether Sac will keep the core group together. I think the Lakers will try to trade for some one to keep up with Bibby.
Hope, you will root for the Lakers in the Final...being that they are the WEST coast champ.

First let me say, one of the funnest aspects to the series is coming here to get a verbal bashing from you and Mike, PolyTat, and honestly, it made the series that much more exciting--so a reciprocate thanks is in order! Can't wait to do it again next year...but the outcome will be different, my friend (never too early to start ;) ).
Now, that game came down to poise and nerves of icy steel in the end. And the Lakers just had the experience and know-how to pull it out. But honestly, I couldn't be more proud of my boys--they kept right up there and scored a triple digit game with the world champs, even with free-throw shooting from hell (what was going on there?? :8: ). Lots of folks blame Christie or CWebb--I think each and every one of them were fabulous. Bibby was on and I know the Maloofs will do whatever it takes to keep our new star, our star. He and Jackson are now an integral part of the lineup, and the dance just won't happen without them in the end... Christie's shot was OFF yesterday, but he's still the man--who else in the NBA has learned to stick to Kobe the way he can? The man hustles and he's an unmistakable asset to the team--and Adelman showed his faith in Doug by keeping him in the game to the end.
In the end, the champs have just been in that kind of a pressure cooker situation before, and they're seasoned. They knew what it took, and they delivered.
BUT--they're cocky, and I really believe the tables will turn next year...
For now, GO LAKERS!!!

Thanks for the sentiment, and I think you're right, amigo. Trades will mean EVERYTHING for these teams in the Western conference.

C'mon on, now William. The guy definitely had issues, but he seems to sincerely be trying to get his life on the right track. I know we all deserve second chances. But I guess I am just really skeptical about pro athletes putting on a public facade to say they're all cured of whatever ails them. Granted he went to counseling and what-not, but his arrest was less than a year and a half ago. Let's see how he is when things aren't going as smoothly, down the line. Before the media annoints him as a new saint.
I get annoyed not just by the cheesey kisses, but then things like watching him and his wife showing off their palatial home on MTV's "Cribs" and how wonderful a family they are. Heck, a couple of years ago, he and his wife were modeling in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue as the perfect couple, when obviously it wasn't the case.
I just think that the New York/New Jersey media, desperate for a hero (especially with the Knicks on the skids), have overplayed the "he's so wonderful now" angle. Being a long-time New Yorker, I've seen the media there swing violently in both directions. I think he's a terrific player, and if he has indeed changed, I'm happy that he has, especially for his wife and his children. But I'm not ready for hero-worship of him. |

More on Kidd...
Here in Phoenix, he was well-liked overall. However, I don't think they treated him well when they ran him off (he didn't hear about it from the team but by a reporter). It's interesting, though, that the Suns don't tolerate a lot of crap from their players. If you screw up big time, they don't want you anymore. Also, they knew they weren't going to win with the roster they had so they made some changes.
What I don't like is how little class JK has shown since then, especially flipping off the fans here when he came back. I understand being mad at the management, but who paid your salary when you were here and were very supportive overall??
That being said, I'm not a Suns fan anyway (being from SoCal)...

In addition to the west coast, LA series, the Nets have players who lived or grew up in LA. ( A couple from up north)
1. Byron Scott - Inglewood High and LA Lakes 80's
2. Keith Van Horn - from Diamond Bar - burb of LA
3. Lucious Harris - LB State guard in the 90's
4. Scalabrine - USC standout
5.6. - JKidd and JCollins - Bay Area (It's in California!)
It'll be a west coast affair...

As if the abuse of the Lakers on the Kings weren't enough in the series. . . .the Kings taunting has just begun.
See out here in LA, we have nothing better to do in between series than to reflect and look back on the the Lakes and the season. For instance, Watching Laker Showtime on The Classic, tuning into SportsCentury Kobe, Ford dealerships selling the Shaq Excursion (MSRP 57K), Fox Sports West doing daily analysis with the Lakes at the Healthsouth facility, Laker Family Feud .. ahhh the list is endless.
The LA media has now declared the Sacramento Kings as the new Portland TrailBlazers. Now I am talking in terms of basketball so I don't want to offend my friends and fellow MDXers in either town. In the 99-2000 season, Portland became our _I-T-C-H . .sadly to hear (which I knew was coming) in the same conotation this year with the Kings - - -minus the gangster appearance, the drug possessions, and bad boy image the Trailblazers portrayed of course.
This year Sacramento was considered the I am confused, no lack of leadership to take the last shot Chris Webber Team, the Floppy Divac and Company team, the team with a lot of cows and no decent burgers, The "I surrender" team - referring to the white towels the fans wave at during the home games which now turn into white rags afixed to a stick and being waved, and last but not least the Ralph Nader team - his reference of petitioning to the league to re-review Game 6 regarding the unfair 16-18 free throws made in the 4th quarter by the Lakes AND the foul that should have been called when Kobe ran over Bibby on a inbound pass resulting in a busted Bibby nose. Crazy!
To top it off even this morning, a radio station in LA called the Sacramento Kings box office inquiring about tickects for tonight's NBA Finals Game 1 in Sacramento. When the agent said it is not going to be in Sactown but in Los Angeles, the radio DJ said . . .Oh Yes because your Sacramento Kings team lost to the Lakers becaue they suck!
The agent replied calling the radio DJ "You A-hole"
Then you hear him hang up then a WHOLE lot of people laughing in the background . . .I even had to laugh at that one!
Awe man.....just hang in there Sactown. Keep a stiff upper lip and just go about your business . .life goes on . . .but for now...learn to accept it, Portland did - even after being swept by the Lakes in the first round. Even SA did being swept last year and bullied this year in the second round.
The Nets . . . they need Byron Scott on the floor not on the sidelines. Expect to see his Laker highlights during the game tonight! |

Sports Center ran a report that Ralph Nadar has sent a letter to David Stern saying that fans are losing trust in the game due to the blatantly one-sided officiating. Nadar insinuates that it was obvious that the NBA desires either a LA or a NY team to be in the finals and took the steps necessry to ensure that.
Hey its Nadar; use your salt. |

The Lake Show gave the Nets a taste of embarrasment the first half of the game....then the Lakes figured to put it in cruise control and try different things with the Nets.
The Nets had most of the stats - off rebs, 2nd chance points, fast break points, fewer turnovers . .but they really couldn't get in the game even with a triple double by Kidd.
The Lakes failure to execute the O resulted in allowing the Nets to come back from 23 to a distant 3 point deficit.
But the Lakes won the game again from the line....not their shooting % (which was poor tonight) but the Nets lack of an average % at the line...right now that is where the Lakes are playing their best defense - at the line.
Marginal numbers from Kobe and Shaq...they just were not ON tonight. |

C'mon Robyjo . .. .I don't know if your comment was sarcastic, confusing, or both. But, I will answer it anyway.
:o
It is all about matchups and how well the players know each other. The matchup between the Lakes and your Queens is
1. nearly evenly matched
2. Both teams are in the same division so playing 4 times a season is common
3. Both teams met in the playoffs the past 3 years
4. Both teams have roll players coming off the bench
5. I think I will stop there
The Nets are a blur to the Lakes - they know little about them even though Jim Cleamons (Asst Coach who does the scouting on the Nets) has followed their play all season long. They only met twice in the regualr season and both games did not include full rosters - albeit they split the games - one by a blowout where Lindsey and Mitch started in the backcourt, and the other NJ winning by 2.
So basically there isn't much history on the matchups.
I can say though after last night's game, boring game...(I ended up watering the grass and detailing the X a bit), the Nets just do not match up well with the Lakes. Obviously in the middle - even when they had Jerry Collins from Stanford on him in the 4th (ordered to do the Hack-a-Shaq), but more so in the backcourt. For instance, Rick Fox scoring early and crashing the off boards is highly unusual. His matchup with Keith Van Horn swayed with the Lakes. Kerry Kittles on Kobe, PLEASE! Big Story, Horry gave Kenyon 15 feet of space to shoot the Js and hesitated quite a bit. Jason Kidd and Fish...well...Fish will get the 2 team when needed. We won't be able to contain Jason who poured on the 3-double again. The only way we are going to stop him is on the defensive rebounding and quick transition for points....The Lakes were hurt by those numbers alone by the Nets.
So quick and dirty...there you have it Roby . .actually we kinda miss playing the Kings

check out this email that's spreading all over the net. Makes you wonder!
Long live the Kings!
The Lakers are in the NBA Finals. Game 6 of the Kings-Lakers seriesexposed how the NBA gets what they want. They just call every questionable call and even calls that shouldn't even be questionable for the Lakers.
As a fan I feel cheated. We were cheated from seeing the better
team in the finals because the NBA wanted to increase their bottom line. Just looking at the commercials during the game you can see who the sponsors wanted to win. Whether it be a Shaq slanging candy bars or Kobe pushing burgers, having the Kings in the Finals would make some important people that sign checks very unhappy.
NBC was even showing Kobe bryant in the promos for the NBA finals with them down in the series 3-2. Do you think that maybe that they had the inside track on what was going to happen in game 6? Do you think that they were assured by someone in the NBA that there was going to be a game 7?
With the NBA and NBC trying to pass game 6 as a fairly played game they are insulting the intelligence of us fans.
This is something that's scary for ALL of us fans of NBA basketball.
If you're not a Laker fan it's obvious that if the NBA has the gall
to blatantly assure that the Kings would not win game 6, then they can do the same thing to you're team.
Also, if you're a Laker fan. You might be enjoying it now, but what
happens when the next 2 most popular players come along and you're team is no longer the darlings of the NBA? Don't you think that the NBA would do the same thing to the Lakers to assure that this other team advances further in the playoffs?
I'm sure that there were many NBA fans that feel like I do. They
feel helpless when the NBA does things like this. But maybe there
is something that us fans can do to save the credibility of the game that we love...
I will not watch any of the games in the finals this year. I refuse
to let people profit off of such shady actions. If enough of us do
this and the ratings go down than the NBA will realize that they're destroying the credibility of the game and will not try so blatantly try to pull this stunt again.
One or two upset fans can not change the NBA's way of thinking, but if we all work together then we can. We are the ones that buy the jerseys, buy the sponsors products, and fill the stadiums. If we don't allow the NBA to profit off of us then they don't profit.
Once they realize that their bottom line will be affected unless
they change their business practices, they will be forced to conduct a fair league.
I put this e-mail together to speak to anyone that is worried about the credibility of a game that we once loved. Please forward this e-mail (or just copy and paste the message) to anyone that you feel might want to participate in this boycott.
Thanks for reading. If we work together we can save the game...

Although I am a Laker's fan, I did/do see the officiating was biased. However, I think the Kings did themselves in by poor free throws. I thinnk the Lakers got 3 more "calls" than the Kings but Kings did horribly on the free throw line. If the kings made as much free throws as the Lakers, the Kings would have been in the finals.
So, if the Kings are to become the team of destiny, they need to stop choking on the line...and the entire team (all except for Bibby) need to make their shots when it counts. Escpecially C.Webb...$112M and not a clutch shot down the stretch...whats up with that? Kings should have traded him when his contract was up.
Yeah, I heard the consumer advocate sent in a letter to the commissioner but it still stands that the Kings lost because they choked on the free throws and missed many of the open shots when it counted...

Well, at least Game 3 was competitive and somewhat entertaining. But, now the Nets have played probably as well as they possibly can...and it wasn't enough.
Series over Wednesday...sweep time.
One last word on Lakers-Kings:
I agree Game 6 was pretty poorly officiated, but you could argue that almost the entire series was poorly officiated depending on which court they were on. Game 7 was pretty even, though, so all it comes down to is the Kings didn't get it done. |
|
|
| Robyjo |
Officiating? Yeah, undeniably there was some lopsided calls. But that's become part of an NBA game, and that's something my boys should learn to deal with--should learn to roll with and turn around and use to their advantage. They can actually learn a thing or 2 from the Lakers in that respect...
Like I said, the Western conf. finals were much more exciting....not that I don't wish this series was bit more exciting. The Lakers deserve a full game like the 3rd quarter tonight.

Another yawner...I was rootin for the Nets just so they can keep it exciting. But, my Lakes prevailed again this time with # 8 on their backs. He saw the oppty and went for it. In addition, the Lakes are playing team ball...not good, not great, but at least consistent team ball. The contributiuons coming from Devean, Fish, and big story Horry were just what the good doctor ordered.
It was still a yawner . . .not much else to say except that it is unfortunate the series is coming to a close.
What was Kenyon Martin doing calling out the Lakes after his dunk...that's poor sportsmanship....I am just waiting til this hothead really blows up.
And really, does Lucious Harris shoot better with the mask on?? He has been healed since the Boston series..
NBC already pimpin' the 3 Peat foam finger trophies WOW! Game three did not even start and here is Jim Gray holding up a 3-peat foam finger! What a complete insult to the Nets!

I agree: Walton is VERY bad & just painful to listen to. One of the big disadvantages of living away from LA is not being able to listen to Chickie-baby (Chick Hearn) who even at 80+ is still going strong. Sure, he's a little bit senile now, but I'd rather hear him mess up somebody's name a million times then listen to one second of Walton's prattle. When will the networks wake up and actually get some quality commentators??!?
Actually, the worse pairing I ever heard was when Isaiah Thomas was with Walton and another announcer a few years back. Boy was that pitiful... |
