Honda to build Pilot SUV in Ontario Plant- Expands market presence

Honda Motor Co. will start making its Pilot sport-utility vehicle in Alliston, Ont., next week, just days after Ford Motor Co. revved up production of the Mercury Marauder, a muscle car icon, in St. Thomas, Ont.
The Japan-based automaker hasn't said how many Pilots it expects to produce, but the new vehicle marks Honda's growing presence in Canada.
The carmaker's two Canadian plants -- which make the Honda Civic, Acura EL sedan, Acura MDX sport utility vehicle and the Honda Odyssey minivan -- pumped out more than 370,000 vehicles last year.
With strong sales in passenger cars, Honda is aiming to grab a bigger chunk of the growing light-truck market.
"The light truck business is a key for Honda's continued growth in North America," Shigeru Takagi, Honda Canada Inc.'s president, said last year. |
