It's getting close to summertime folks. How about a group special on the custom fit reflective sunshield inserts for your windshield, that protects the dash anf front seating areas?? These typically run about $30.
Any takers?? Tim can we get a deal on these??

I was in Costco last week and saw a beige colored sunshield that folded up nicely with a velcro strap. It had the silver foil front side that faces the outside and had the suction cups to stay in place on the window. It was very well made and was only $8.99!
Unfortunately I have a black interior and did not want the beige colored sunshield. But it is worth looking into for all those who have the saddle interior, it would look great.
Larry
(hopefully they just ran out of stock for the black or dark gray sunshields-if anyone notices one in costco let me know!) |

| Unfortunately, we don't have Costco in this part of the country (yet). Just BJ's and Sam's Club. I can check both of those. How well does the one you purchased fit?? |

Still waiting on a digital camera for pictures.
As far as prices it was under $20 (for the large) at Walmart / Target. It is the accordian style, dull gray on one side, shiny reflective silver on the other; with various colored fabric trim around the edges. We got the "beige" one which is almost identical to the Saddle interior. It comes with a velcro strap attached to secure it when folded. We were pretty impressed for the price. |
|
|
| larryhot13 |
went back to Costco, they had the black/gray shade in stock. Very impressive/well made for $8.79!
Its a name brand sunshield (KUHL) and is very stylish. Only problem is that the only size they have is JUMBO, which is the size recommended on the back panel for the MDX, but it is not a perfect fit. It is a little bit bigger than the size of the windshield, so you have to keep it folded like an accordian a bit to fit. But it does look nice, front and back.

| I tried the Costco sunshade awhile ago. Did not like the fit. It was too big for the X's windshield. It's a well-made shade and the beige one matched well with the saddle interior in our X. I've been using the old spring shades that I used for our old Honda Odyssey for now. |

Decisions, Decisions...
Well, let's see...Zaino 'stuff' or new sun shield...
Think I have to go with the Zaino for now, as I do have a sun shield that will 'do' for the time being. It's one I used in my BMW, even though it was large for it. Picked it up about 5 years ago when I lived in FL. Was about $20 and even has flaps to cover the driver and passenger windows, though I've lost one of the suction cups. Has served me well over the years and is still looking good, though I so wanted a new one to go with my new 'toy'!
Was made by Shady Business (no, I'm NOT making this up) out of Moorpark, CA. Just called the 800# on the back of the package information (yes, I'm a packrat and saved it) and the company is now known as Axius. Unfortunately, they discontinued the 'winged' version about 18 months ago, per the rep, but have been thinking of bringing it back due to the number of inquiries they've had. |

Tim,
Anyway I could view the picture of your sunshade/sunshield?
I just bought Kohl Sunshade from Costco, and it is a bit too big for the 'X. But it match my 'X color inside and outside. :D |

On second thought.....
I have had my costco Kuhl (pronounced Cool) Sunshield for over a week now, and I am thinking of returning it. the quality is excellent, better than any other sunshield I have seen in stores(walmart, etc) but the fit, even though the recommended size for the MDX is Jumbo, is too big and bulky, somewhat aggravating putting it in place and keeping the suction cups in place. DO NOT BUY THE JUMBO SIZE if that is all Costco has in stock. I imagine this is the main reason they are able to sell quality shields for $8.68, because the cut is too big for most trucks. If they have a standard size shade, I would definietly try the Kuhl Shade and see how it fits.

I am still waiting to get the hitch! Calling dealer again today. Supposedly it's in, they are supposed to set up installation with a local dealer. I may just offer to do it myself if they refund me the labor which has already been paid. |

I've been way to busy lately and totally missed the updates on this thread! Go figure.
Anyway, do we have the fifteen (I only counted 12 from the responses, but could have missed some)? And if so, is it too late for me to get in on this?
DH bought one of the jumbo Kuhl shades from Costco (yes, even after I told him what the consensus was here), and I just don't like it at all! Will use it for now, but would really like to get one that fits!

For the best sunshade on the market, IMO, try....
http://www.autosportcatalog.com/products.cfm
I was tired of the cheapo ones. Here is a description, but go to their website for more info and pics.
"Universal-fit sunshields let heat and light leak in. Instead, opt for the perfect fit of our Ultraviolet Heat Shield, custom-cut for you from over 500 patterns of the most popular vehicles. Sunlight-reflective silver fabric and soft felt are laminated to a foam-core board, which acts as an insulator to reduce interior heat buildup. There's no hardware or hassles--you just position the shield across your windshield and secure with sun visors. When not in use, the pre-sewn panels quickly accordion fold for handy storage. Please give us your vehicle's year, make and model when ordering. Please allow three weeks for delivery"
It ain't cheap. It's $45 bucks, but it is custom made for the X. Fits perfectly. Folds up nicely. Felt back. Excellent quality.
And it works in the Dallas heat!

| DaleB |
I am not sure what makes it much better than the IntroTech which can be found selling for $32 - 35, and not $39. In fact they were planning a group on here for $29 I thought at one time.
I am very happy with the IntroTech. It fits perfectly too, but does roll up instead. |
|
|
| octavian |
| Dale, the UV Heat Shield I use has the sun-reflective stuff laminated to a foam-core board which is covered on the reverse side with soft felt. It is much more substantially made than many I have seen and the thickness helps insulate against the heat. |
|
|
| DaleB |
OH I wasn't knocking it. I was surprised they were not selling the IntroTech for less money.
The one you got does sound good.I would have opted for that if I knew about them.
The 'cheap' one I used on our minivan was a foil type, but it folded up to which I like better than a roll up. |
|
|
| octavian |
Yep, I use the highly reflective fold up one I bought at WalMart on my wife's Odyssey (it works pretty good for $10).....heh heh heh....and keep the good one for myself.
Hey, my X is Black on Black and hers is Beige on Beige. Who is more entitled to the better quality sunshield, I ask you? ;) |

I've been wanting one of Tim's shades for the longest time ... but now it seems like I may have slept through the group buy. Dang:3: Any chance of an extension??? :6:

I purchased an Introtech sunshade made for the MDX
at Bell Acura here in Phoenix for $29. Check your local Acura
dealer's parts dept and get a price quote.
Let me tell you, here in Phoenix where we're constantly
in the 100's, it's well worth the cost.
Jim.:9: |
|
|
| SonShine |
| Hmm...that may be a very good option. I wish that there was an Acura dealer in the East Valley! Or, since Scottsdale is closer, they may be able to match it. Is that the regular price, Jim? |
|
|
| powellj |
Hi SonShine, I called Bell Acura and they're still $29.99 + tax.
I also got a quote on the 7500 mile check up. It's $140 + tax.
If you're in the south east valley, take the new 101 freeway to
7th St. Head south to Bell and turn right. About 1 mile up the road.
If you have NAV, it will take you straight there.
Jim. |

| Thanks - I've actually been up there before (prior to the completion of the rest of the 101 loop). Maybe I'll check it out this weekend... |

Octavian,
Noticed you have black on black. This is what I have also. Do you find that without the heat shield your X get very hot (I assume it does). I have ordered from autosport in the past, nice products. The P215S wheel cleaner is pretty decent. |
|
|
| octavian |
m2, whoa, that was a post from the past....
Lessee, down heah in sunny Texas:1: the shield does help, particularly with the sun roasting the steering wheel and dash, so I carry the Autosport one with me in the spring/summer/fall.
But you know, I have had so many people ask me if black/black is hotter than other colors in the summer and I honestly have to say for me, that theory is blown out of proportion. My wife's beige/beige gets just as hot it seems. Hey, if it's 140 vs. 150 degrees in the car, it's damn hot either way!
What helps immensely is the powerful front and back A/C on the X.....it cools down soooo fast, I still am impressed with how well it works in the Texas heat. :29:
PS...P21S products are very good. They have the best carnauba in my opinion, tho I use Zaino now. |
|
|
| m2pc |
True hot is hot :2: :2: I guess its being repetitive especially when its 140-150:1:
So where do you store the shade, looks large and I picture it to be similar to an accordion box when folded.
PS... I know I know, late post but I just got my MDX and just recently found this awesome site :p |
|
|
| octavian |
I either keep in on the back seat for easy access (tho it does slide around a lot with the way I take turns!) or in the back cargo hold.
34x7.5x1.75" when folded....very well made and fits perfectly. Really neat....UV protection on the front and felt backing which does not get hot and burn my delicate little fingers.
;) |
