I've finally completed most of what I want to do with the MDX. I therefore have taken some pics to share with everyone. Hope you all enjoy:D

DaleB,
That's good old electrical tape:p I had used scotch tape, but that was just too visible. Now, you can only see it if you try hard:) |

The video/audio install was done by Ron from Streeteffectz. He's located in Rahway, NJ and he does some amazing stuff. He has a website that is coming back up soon at www.streeteffectz.com

Seems reasonable, I have ebony interior so that should work fine. It's not a long distance anyway. |

Thanks Worm,
Just wanted to let you know that it was your backup sensors install that first got me thinking about the backup camera;) Now, the combo would be the ultimate...hmmm... don't think the wife will allow it:) |

Thanks Mushman,
I'm right in Queens. As a matter of fact, I got my full size spare from you. You have a nice ride yourself!!
We should definitely get together maybe also with paul123, vip9 and some others once I get my installs completed. Ron is still working on the schematic for the CD-Changer bus cable he needs for the sound, putting the reverse relays in, and putting the video switch on the dash instead of under the dash. |

tjwid,
It's very observant of you. I did not remove the plate purposely. I purchased my MDX in Philadelphia. Since in PA they are not required to have a front plate, the dealer took it off. I just got the mounting bracket sent from them, and it's on my to-do list to put it on. I don't really know what the risks are, but I hope I won't get a ticket until I have time to put it on. |

MDXtrous,
I have an SS/Touring/Nav on order and am considering replacing the the entire sound system, with new Alpine tuner headunit , Alpine in-dash DVD player, external Precision Power amps, Boston Acoustics speakers and subwoofer and XM tuner.
My installer (Myer-Emco, a highly reputable company in the Washington, DC area) has a concern that maybe you can address. The OEM Nav system apparently runs its audio through the Bose headunit. The installer is concerned that replacing the headunit might adversely affect the Nav audio or other aspects of the Nav system; and that cutting into the Nav wiring might void the Acura Nav warranty. This applies also to running the DVD video into the Nav unit.
I haven't been able to find this issue addressed in other threads and would appreciate your insight.
Thanks and congrats on the great system you have. |

Just a quote from one of my posts in this thread,
"The video/audio install was done by Ron from Streeteffectz. He's located in Rahway, NJ and he does some amazing stuff. He has a website that is coming back up soon at www.streeteffectz.com

I'm not sure how it voids warranties, but it may affect the Navi warranty. But Ron warranties his work, and I'm sure will address any problems. For me, I felt it was worth it, at least that's what I think now:)
You need a composite-to-RGB decoder, the Pioneer AVC-RGB1, but it's discontinued and impossible to find. But I know Ron has one right now, and if you act fast, you may get the last install from him. Just e-mail him at ron@streeteffectz.com (I have no affiliation, just a happy customer)
TV tuner is decent, some channels some of the times. It's better in NYC because the tower sits on Empire State. I was getting decent reception in Northern Jersey near the Goethals bridge however.
No, I don't have an alarm. Everything is pretty inconspicuous, and I think if they want to take it, they will find a way to do it. It's probably not worth in my mind to spend $600 - $700 on an install that cost a total of about $1800.
Hope this helps. |

I like those. If I ever went HID with the low beams that would be a good way to go to keep the 'color' of other lamps.
But I would probably wait for the Silverstars to burn out first. I understand the Silverstars to not have the greatest longevity.
IF possible, I would be interested in a
down a dark road shot through the windshield, similar to what I did.
What I did was a shot at full resolution, then scaled it down to about 6X8, then cropped to about 4.5 X 8.

I'll try to find a chance to do that down the road shot. Here in NYC though it will be hard to find a dark street with no street lights and with little cars!!
But in the meantime, I've provided some more detail on the Accessories forum here:

In it, I have pics comparing them with paul123s true 6000K HIDs. You can take a look. |

I am obviously not ordering the correct X by not getting the navigation system. I had no idea there were so many things you could upgrade to (add to) with this system. Can these things be done without the Nav system ordered.
Thanks |

If you mean, can you convert the Non-nav screen to take video input? The answer would be no, because the non-nav screen has pre-etched glass. However, don't despair, there are some aftermarket solutions, like aftermarket navi and custom installs that are possible with the non-nav such as this one:

Hey MDXtrous!
Hope you don't mind a little imitation. I'll post pics of my X after I put the BSM's on. I loved the way the Plasma Industries bulbs looked on your X so I thought I'd do the same.

Paul,
I do have the ebony interior. For some reason, the digital pictures show up a little grayish/greenish in color. But mine is the same ebony as everyone else's. |

I read about the RX45 Infiniti after seeing the pic at the dealer in Denville NJ. Info can be found @edmunds.com and car & driver
under new vehicles.
it will be a 4 passenger AWD 300 Hp sports cross. It whould fit my business needs, but the MDX is in 3rd year of production and most of the bugs should be fixed. Infiniti has had some quality problems with new models.
I look forward to my MDX, i hope it has the new Navi system from IBM.:) |

| PS2 permanent location behind driver's seat. I had to take out a footrest and raise the PS2 to still have a place for passengers to place their feet. |
|
|
| MDXtrous |
| Added Logitech Cordless Controller for the PS2. It uses 2.4GHz radio waves instead of infra red, so I don't need direct line of site. Works just as good as a corded controller: |
|
|
| MDXtrous |
| Works in the back passenger seat: |
|
|
| MDXtrous |
| Same controller works in the front driver's seat also, I can also point backwards and away from the receiver and it still works perfectly... |
|
|
| MDXtrous |
| Found the perfect place to store the controller in the map/cupholder location in each of the back passenger doors... Playing or storing the cordless really gets out of the way without the wires. |
|
|
| MDXtrous |
Ron from streeteffectz.com put in a blitzsafe adapter that allows the video sound to go directly into the external CD Changer input in the radio, giving much clearer sound than an RF modulator. No more static and no more radio stations cutting in...
This is the shot when I have regular CD sound: |
|
|
| MDXtrous |
| This is the shot after I hit the CD button again. Notices it has track 99 Disc 1 . It thinks I have a CD changer but it's really the video sound... |

Actually, I could in theory plug in an electric stove into the center console power outlets. However, I'm not sure the Wattage (350W) is high enough (I knew I should have gone for the 2000W!!!):D
Well, as to the bathroom, I've found Snapple bottles to be very useful in heavy traffic;) (Oops, I better not go there...) |

Well, I've had a full size spare that I got from Mushman way back one, but never got to take the pics.
I finally did today when I was taking some pics of some additional steering wheel buttons that I've added to the A/V install.
Hopefully these will be helpful to all... |

Ron added a few more steering wheel buttons using a device made by Peripheral Electronics called PESWIX. I've added them for replacing the remotes for the TV Tuner and DVD player for some of the basic functions. 6 buttons in all for TV Tuner Power, TV Tuner TV/Video switch, TV Tuner Channel +, DVD Power, DVD Play/Pause, DVD Eject.
They are placed on some of the plastic tabs that are removable/replaceable on the steering wheel itself.
For more details, I've posted a more detailed step by step on the A/V forum.
It really helps me from having to juggle with the remotes. Here are the pics... |

You are an amazing guy, you keep raising the bar!
You might want to wrap that F/S spare with a cover so you will have to do minimal clean-up on the wheel when you use it.
Especially if you don't plan to rotate it. |

Thanks for the suggestion. I do see a lot of condensation building up there in the spare. A cover could really help... since I don't plan on rotating...
I don't know about "amazing guy" but the "gotta havit" attittude in me sort of takes over. And the incremental additions just add up... I'm grateful that I have a very accomodating wife:D |

MDXtrous - nice ride.
i'm in the process of deciding between getting the touring navigation and the touring navigation with dvd system.
the acura salesperson informed me that the dvd system screen is tiny at 7". i haven't seen it. so i can't verify. also...navigation with dvd system will take longer to deliver. touring navigation is more readily available...at least locally in my area.
so it looks like i'll be getting just the touring navigation model. probably in sagebrush or silver.
my question. i'm just looking to be able to play dvds on the nav unit. is that a difficult job to accomplish? could i do it myself or would i need to go somewhere to have it done? if so...how much?
thanks in advance. |

There are two solutions for those that own a 2003 Navi MDX for video on navi.
The first is to use the backup camera kit, just like this guy at Odyclub:
http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showt...15&pagenumber=1
The second method is to use the solution on:
www.video-nav.com .
This solution requires the purchase of this device and a TV tuner from Pioneer for $300, which comes out to $600.
I hope this helps.... |
