| I've heard people complain about wind noise developed at high speed by the outside mirrors? Does everyone experience this problem or is it just a few? |

No noise (from anything) or skimmy's or wandering, etc. at low 90's.

| I pick my MDX two days ago and you are right it is very noisy at about 70 mph. I am still evaluating if it is as good as they , so far it is!! |

On my MDX, I detect wind noise starting about 50MPH and proportionally louder at higher speeds. The Acura service foreman test drove my vehicle along with other MDXs (1 or more?) and concluded that it was wind noise originating from the side mirrors being transmitted through the windshield. He reached this conclusion when detecting increased wind noise with the side mirrors folded in. Disappointing. I will have to take another MDX for a joy ride to confirm this apparent systemic flaw. Wind noise on an Acura/Honda is unusual.

How the hell can you hear wind noise over the Bose :-)
Seriously, I do not understand this complaint at all. What are you comparing to? |
|

| Actually, I've never been in an MDX over 45 mph so I'm not the culpret. I'm just trying to get a complaint tied down that I've hear from various other posts. My intent is to poll everyone. Some may have a problem and others may not, if so, what are the circumstances? If a majority don't have any complaint then maybe the compainers have better hearing or they need to remove the bubblegum from the bottom of their mirrors. |

The Bose is the ultimate remedy! I don't usually drive the MDX without having kids screaming in my ear or the Bose cranked up.
WRT the comparison, I'm comparing it against other Honda/Acuras that I have had the pleasure to ride/drive (barring the SLX). Admittedly, I shouldn't have the same expectation of an Sports-Ute as a car but luxury should count for something, especially when I didn't detect the wind noise at highway speeds in the two demo MDXs I drove. Please don't get me wrong, the MDX is a wonderful SUV and I wouldn't trade it for any other in its class. |

| When I first purchased my Base MDX, I didn't have a Roof Rack or a moonroof Visor. During that time, I didn't have any problems with wind noise even at 90 mph. Last month, I purchased from Tim at Hondacuraworld the moonroof visor and Roof Rack which I installed. Ever since then, even my girlfriend noticed that our MDX is louder than when I first bought it. I'm not that disturbed by the wind noise because it is not THAT bad. I think the Roof Rack and Moonroof Visor adds more look to my MDX but I guess it makes it a little more noisy. |

| I have to assume that the folks on this forum who are complaining about wind noise have not driven an American SUV. When compared to a Blazer for example the MDX is like being in a sound proof room. The real test of how well the vehicle is sound proofed is driving at highway speed with a 20-40 mph cross-wind. In the blazer, you can barely here yourself think. I guess it depends on your experience and thus expectations. |

I absolutely agree. I have driven and ridden in many American SUVs/light trucks (rentals) and they are quite noisy. But for $5-20K more, what should one expect to get besides a power package and leather seats? My first Acura Legend was much more quiet the the Honda Accord of the day and definitely more than the Ford Taurus. So as you said, "it depends on your experience and thus expectations." |

| I agree with the annoying noise coming from the mirrors. When Motor Trend reviewed the vehicle this was one of the very few complaints that they had about the MDX. This is not an isolated case. The aerodynamic design or I should say the lack of aerodynamic design on these mirrors is the culprit. It has to much drag and it just gets worse in higher speeds. In my MDX it's even worse due to the roof rack. There are no permanent solution for the mirrors but there might be a solution for the roof rack. Acura should take a design clue from aftermarket roof rack manufacturers like Yakima. They have a lexan deflector that mounts in front of the first roof rack bars. This is a simple and cost effective way of lessening the drag and noise on the roof racks. If designed properly it can be stylish and add a certain sportier flare to the once boring uninspiring roof rack design. |

| If I hear wind "noise" complaints one more time I'm gonna split a nutty!!!! Have any of you "whiners" ever owned or driven any kind of SUV before. Maybe you should have bought a Mini Van or a Volvo. I'm sorry for being aggravated but my Dad calls my MDX a "Barbie" car or a "Mini Van", it infuriates me. This is a great vehicle but with people whining about wind noise for crissakes, maybe my Mom and Dad are right... sometimes the "owners" give a vehicle a bad name more than the vehicle itself. For example, has anyone ever seen a Volvo (regardless of Model) going over 55 MPH on the highway? No! They're ususally safely doing 55 in the "fast" lane clogging up traffic. Ok here's another one, how about Women with Pony tails pulled through a baseball cap driving Subur'p'ans? Get my drift? |

Dancall,
I agree with you on the noise matter. There are a lot of noisier SUVs out there. My MDX is even quieter than some sedans. In fact the mirror noise and and roof rack dont bother me much compared to my wife getting mad at me again for putting too much mileage on the MDX again. I might have bought it for her but I sure find every excuse to drive the MDX. LOL. |

If you want to hear road, wind, and engine noise take a ride in a Honda CR-V. I have never owned a "quiet" vechle before but the first impression I had of our CR-V was how noisy it was at freeway speeds. I know the MDX we are waiting for will be better!

| Like dancall, I am a bit tired of hearing about wind noise and I'll throw in the Bose stereo system complaints for good measure. Get a life folks, if you really want something to whine about, go buy a used Ford Explorer with Firestone Wilderness AT tires!!! Otherwise turn up your stereo and quit worrying about whether all the bats in the neighborhood could hear the high frequencies from your automotive stereo system. |

I agree, try driving a blazer for 6 years, you will understand what wind noise is all about and what a truly horrible stereo sounds like.
The MDX is not a little car, it is a large vehicle pushing a lot of air, you will get wind noise, especially in a crosswind situation.
If your basis of expectations is from a car, then you will complain about the MDX, if you previously owned a SUV, you will love the MDX. |
