If any of you would be kind enough to help me set up a forum like this for home audio on my server, please email me at webmaster@audiokarma.org (that's my email addy for this new site, I managed to do that!). I don't know anything about SQL, PHP, or any of that stuff.....harder than I thought it would be :(
I'll be very thankful and generous :D |

Is there a such thing as SQL on UNIX? I thought MicroSoft build the database software on a Windows platform?
PHP? Hmmm I dont know that one. Are you using Linux of some type on an Intel processor? Just curious. |

I have no idea what the devil I'm talking about, so I dunno.
Guess I'll have to pay to make it happen. |

Tim:
If you have any specific questions (UNIX or SQL) I may be able to answer them but might not be able to regarding the setting-up of a forum.

For whatever it's worth, I'd be interesting in participating in another forum like this for home audio/home theater. Home audio/video is a real passion of mine. :2:
I'm just in the process of replacing a bunch of equipment after lightning struck our house a few days ago.
Let me know if a new forum gets started -- I'll be a "charter" member. |

The "ultimate forum software" has a LARGE number of users/supporters.
Start here -- http://www.vbulletin.org/
If you decide you need "professional assistance" you can look here -- pretty affordable. http://www.digibuy.com/cgi-bin/order.html?vbulletin
Basically you need either a high bandwidth connection or a "hosted server" to get started. Hosted tends to be cheaper, probably under $50/month.
I've helped people set-up various kinds of web-based servers (as a hobby/side business), on Linux and other operating systems. My real job is 'enterprise class' intranet/internet systems engineering. PM me with specifics.
Sure you don't mind the 800 number fees? |

| I already bought the vBulletin software, including the install package, and a server from CIhost. I just dunno how to plug 'em in  |
