I left the employ of a Jaguar dealer in June 2000 after 5 years (we were at one time a dualled Jag/Acura franchise). I know Jaguars like the back of my hand.
The good:
The supercharged "R" series are unbelievably fast! Rather than gut-wrenching torque, it can only be described as being shot from a gigantic catapult...exactly the same feeling as you get taking off from a short runway in a high-powered aircraft on a short runway. Breathtaking! I personally saw the first pre-production V8 S-Types at Jaguar's Mahwah, NJ headquarters, and was pretty impressed.
The bad:
If you have owned Jags in the past, the car will feel nothing like a Jaguar. It doesn't have the same feel nor quality of materials that make a Jaguar a Jaguar in my opinion. Rather than feel inherently British, as a Jag should, it feels like a "world car", with no specific heritage. Seat controls are clumsy, transmission shift is awkward in that it shifts in the exactly opposite direction as other Jag "J-Gate" shifters. Incredibly difficult to judge.
The Ugly:
If you ever have to remove the taillamps for any reason, you'll have to buy a new set....you have to break tabs off of them to remove them. Ford visteon electronics with Lucas gremlins. Ford hasn't done any favors for Volvo either, I hear...... |

It's sad, the only thing left is the beautiful classic form.
Give me a car body like that with bimmer or Mercedes mechanics, and you got something! |
