Porsche has put out a ton of info about the Cayenne on the website today -- including its heritage based on the 959 and Carerra 4.

The Cayenne looks very funky. It seems inspired by the funky 60's-70's British sedans... Porsche-o-philes will not take kindly to the V8...
Utility is limited... Visually, looks to have about as much interior volume as a Passat sedan... |

Actually that's the only thing that Porsche-o-philes like about it. They're hoping that they put that twin turbo V8 into a future version of the 911 (and keep the price under 100K) |

...that's what all those photos on the site establish.
I know lots of Porsche fans are already PO'ed that the current 911 is water cooled.
If you survey Porsche collectors they will pretty much universally cite the 928 as an aberation that signalled the "end of a once great company" -- unfortunately Porsche does need to actually make money and to do that they have to sell vehicles.
I'm sure the profit they will make from the Cayenne wil help to keep the company breathing, but it would have been much more impressive if it had a flat six... |

| Although 911 owners are miffed that the 911 is water cooled, they (we) are more than happy with the fact that engine is still in the back (where it should be). Give them 400 hp, and they won't care how you cool it. |
