Here's a list of problem area, in my opinion, for the MDX. Of course for a complete list, see posts by "kenkneeb" in the "Your Experience", and "General Discussions" or anywhere else you read the "kenkneeb" poster's name. That would be me and my opinions:

"Things we wish Acura would have done better.

Needs much greater sound iso/insulation from road/tire/wind noise.

Tires with quieter ride characteristics than the Michelin Cross Terrain.

Better view of RPM, Speedo & drivers instrument cluster with wheel in
various tilt positions.

Lack of telescoping steering wheel.

Limited steering wheel tilt range.

Key must be in ignition and turned to position 1 to apply power to power outlets.

No stand alone clock - LCD Dash display must be on.

Single handle for rear hatch opening/closing. Two or more would be preferable.

Possible to get fingers caught/pinched in rear hatch lever.

Possible to get fingers caught/pinched in all other door handles.

6 CD Changer needs audible signal to notify user when CD changer is ready to
be loaded.

Center armrest/console is too high for comfort.

Driver/Passenger Side armrests too low for comfort.

All inside door handles require uncomfortable extreme reach to close doors.

Driver and passenger bang knees getting into the front door.

No arm level hand-holds for passengers to grasp during cornering.

Driver & passenger seat bottom & dashboard skirting in the way when entering
and exiting.

HVAC controls too high up on dash & too far forward for comfortable reach.

Audio controls (volume, bass, treble, fader, balance) have time lag when
selected.

Driver and Passenger seat-side bolsters too narrow for optimal support.

No Passenger side lumbar support.

All status lights (AC, Seat Memory, etc.) are too dim during daylight
operation making identification of their current operating state virtually
impossible.

Poor driver side dead pedal foot rest/angle/position.

Too little driver side left foot rest area.

No +/- fan control, only +, +, +, + then back to low. Make it a a stand
alone rotary dial.

Rear of Driver and Passenger seats have bulbous areas at the shoulder area
making it difficult for the middle row passenger to enter and exit middle
row seats.

Interior lights located on door bottoms cast harsh light upwards
compromising night vision.

Place sunroof controls on center console rather than way over to left on
driver side.

Provide for AUTO all windows up or all windows down control for driver.

Auto Electrochromic Rearview Mirror creates dangerous & extreme contrast
levels and adds a harsh color hue to images in rear view mirror.

Driver1s inside rear view mirror very stiff making it difficult to.
Inside rear view mirror1s wide view is ok, but it1s top to bottom view islacking.

Fit and finish of driver and driver side passenger doors not up to Acuraquality.

Sharp plastic edges on left side steering wheel mounted audio control pod
-volume control buttons too big.

Outside rear view mirror tilt down should not be linked to having the
outside rearview mirror in the middle position.

Center mounted transmission shift lever made difficult to shift to do
"pre-ordained" maze-like shift gate pattern.

Real "Simulated Imitation Wood Grain" on center console, and around HVAC
controls has super glossy finish which unfortunately causes bright
reflections into driver1s eyes creating a dangerous distractions.

Rear Windows don1t roll down fully.

Roof Rack not adjustable or removable. Whoops!!!

12" deep, 1" wide space between both front seats where keys can drop, and
unless you have a 1" wide arm, you better have a plan B on retrieving your keys.

Sound system is very lacking!!

Ken KneeB-- you have alot of things on the list-- how bad do you think they are in total-- all cars will have things you don't like. How would you rate car on scale of 1-10--have you regretted buying it or are these little things you would have Acura change...

Kenkneeb,

I've found your well-written, humorous posts entertaining, and they have even contained some valid points. However, assuming that you actually own a MDX, how could such a detailed (- possibly a bit anal-) and experienced car purchaser buy a car that has no redeeming qualities?

I can see buying something and then finding a couple issues that are bothersome, but you seem to be bothered by everything... At this point, I think you've established your long list of things that bother you. However, you have not shared with us why you purchased the MDX?

bjacob,

I think Kenkneeb has done a very accurate job of listing every item that has ever been mentioned by someone on this board, and then a few new ones. I however have a different point of view on many of those items that I would like to share with you. FYI, I have 6,ooo miles on MDX that I picked up Dec 1, 2000. I have put on a bunch of highway and local driving as well as day and night driving, so I feel my experience to date is fairly representative of the next 50,000 miles I'll put on it.

I've taken Kenkneeb's comments and attached my impressions on that issue.

1. Needs much greater sound iso/insulation from road/tire/wind noise. - It is much quiter than many luxury I have owned although it is not as quiet as the Lexus 300. IMHO it is fine.

2. Tires with quieter ride characteristics than the Michelin Cross Terrain. - I don't hear the tires.

3. Better view of RPM, Speedo & drivers instrument cluster with wheel in various tilt positions. - I agree with Kenkneeb but it is not a big deal.

4. Lack of telescoping steering wheel. - don't need it or miss it. I'm 5'11" 190 lbs.

5. Limited steering wheel tilt range. - see comemnt above

6. Key must be in ignition and turned to position 1 to apply power to power outlets. - no big deal

7. No stand alone clock - LCD Dash display must be on. - no big deal

8. Single handle for rear hatch opening/closing. Two or more would be preferable. - no big deal

9. Possible to get fingers caught/pinched in rear hatch lever. - hasn't happended to me - I try to be careful opening and closing every door I use.

10. Possible to get fingers caught/pinched in all other door handles. - again, I haven't had that problem

11. 6 CD Changer needs audible signal to notify user when CD changer is ready to be loaded. - the changer flashes the word LOAD when its ready, that seems sufficient to me, an audible signal wouldn't add anythin for me

12. Center armrest/console is too high for comfort. - it fits me perfectly

13. Driver/Passenger Side armrests too low for comfort. - they fit me fine

14. All inside door handles require uncomfortable extreme reach to close doors. - yes, the MDX is wonderfully wide, it's great that they require an extreme reach, bravo ACURA on a spacious cabin

15. Driver and passenger bang knees getting into the front door. - hasn't happended to me or any of my passengers

16. No arm level hand-holds for passengers to grasp during cornering. - I don't corner so fast that my passengers have to hang on to something

17. Driver & passenger seat bottom & dashboard skirting in the way when entering and exiting. - don't know what Kenkneeb is referring to but again neither I or my passengers have banged body parts getting in or out

18. HVAC controls too high up on dash & too far forward for comfortable reach. - I purposely bought a vehicle with auto a/c and heat so I wouldn't have to play with it so I don't have that problem, mine stays on auto all the time

19. Audio controls (volume, bass, treble, fader, balance) have time lag when selected. - slight delay not a problem for me

20. Driver and Passenger seat-side bolsters too narrow for optimal support. - seats are comfortable for me and my wife - no problems here

21. No Passenger side lumbar support. - true, but I haven't been able to afford many vehicles that have it

22. All status lights (AC, Seat Memory, etc.) are too dim during daylight operation making identification of their current operating state virtually impossible. - I may have better vision than Kenkneeb or Kenkneeb may have defective lights but for me there is adequate lighting of all the controls even here in the bright Carolina sun

23. Poor driver side dead pedal foot rest/angle/position. - there is no vertical dead left foot position. It is more like 15% inclination. But, considering the driving position is more upright than a sedan, I find I am getting to used to it and that it is OK.

24. Too little driver side left foot rest area. - see comment directly above

25. No +/- fan control, only +, +, +, + then back to low. Make it a a stand alone rotary dial. - see comments above on auto a/c, heat control

26. Rear of Driver and Passenger seats have bulbous areas at the shoulder area making it difficult for the middle row passenger to enter and exit middle row seats. - what! I think I need to suggest to Kenkneeb that he takes the front seats back up from a horizontal position before he has his passengers exit. Humor aside, the space between the front and middle seats is fantastic. It's what you would find inside many limo's. Getting in and out of the middle seats is a breeze. The third row however is a different story. My six and ten year old use them and while they don't really have a problem, they do go through some contortions to make it in and out.

27. Interior lights located on door bottoms cast harsh light upwards compromising night vision. - this is a new one on me and I'll look for it the next time I drive at night (tonight). Obviously it hasn't been a problem for me.

28. Place sunroof controls on center console rather than way over to left on driver side. No, leave them where they are. I don't want my children sitting in the front seat playing with the sunroof controls. They are in a great spot.

29. Provide for AUTO all windows up or all windows down control for driver. - no big deal

30. Auto Electrochromic Rearview Mirror creates dangerous & extreme contrast levels and adds a harsh color hue to images in rear view mirror. - I got used to this two cars ago. I do prefer the goold old fashioned type where you flip it for day or night, but it's no big deal to me.

31. Driver1s inside rear view mirror very stiff making it difficult to. Inside rear view mirror1s wide view is ok, but it1s top to bottom view islacking. - mirrors are absolutely not a problem for me. In fact I've commented on how much I like them. The best setting for mirrors BTW are somewhat like race car drivers set them up. That is, away from looking at the sides of your vehicles. Set them up to look at your blind spot areas. It's takes a little getting used to, but once you do, you'll never go back.

32. Fit and finish of driver and driver side passenger doors not up to Acuraquality. - Seems fine to me.

33. Sharp plastic edges on left side steering wheel mounted audio control pod -volume control buttons too big. - I like them just the way they are.

34. Outside rear view mirror tilt down should not be linked to having the outside rearview mirror in the middle position. - no big deal

35. Center mounted transmission shift lever made difficult to shift to do "pre-ordained" maze-like shift gate pattern. - no big deal

36. Real "Simulated Imitation Wood Grain" on center console, and around HVAC controls has super glossy finish which unfortunately causes bright reflections into driver1s eyes creating a dangerous distractions. - see my vision comments above. (seriously Kenkneeb, If you are reading this you might want to have your vision checked because quite a few of your comments center around distracting light and the need for more audible signals) - this is another issue I haven't noticed or been bothered with. Heck, I wish Acura had had put more wood trim (even fake wood trim) in - I did via Joshuatree.com.

37. Rear Windows don1t roll down fully. - no big deal and considering that most of my rear passengers are children, I actually prefer it that way.

38. Roof Rack not adjustable or removable. Whoops!!! - I don't use mine much so for me it's a non issue.

39. 12" deep, 1" wide space between both front seats where keys can drop, and unless you have a 1" wide arm, you better have a plan B on retrieving your keys. - haven't dropped anything into the black pit so I can't comment.

40. Sound system is very lacking!! - it's a Bose. Not great, not awful, better than most. It's the same specs that are in many lux vehicles. I do wish it was a Nakamichi though.

bjacob - hope this helps!

When will it stop!
When will it stop!
When will it stop!

Enough already... You have made it clear that you hate the MDX. You continually tell how us how intelligent and experienced you are, well obviously you didn't do your homework.

Go volunteer your time at a local hospital or library and stop wasting our time. Either add to conversation and provide some debate, just stop the bashing... It's like third grade all over again.

I totally concur with MesaBeige with two additional comments. I have dropped my keys between the seats - what a pain! The A/C controls in the Nav system are annoying as you have to take your eyes off the road to make sure you hit the "touch" area accurately and don't accidentally advance past your desired setting. But like MesaBeige, I put these things in the "oh well" category not "catastrophe" or "regret my decision". I love my MDX and think it represents solid engineering and an excellent value.
I also totally agree with MesaBeige and would not want many of the things changed that Ken mentions. As I indicated in a pervious post cars are made to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. It really sounds like Ken needs to build himself a custom car otherwise he will never enjoy the satisfaction that many of us here have with our beautiful MDX's.

Ray
I'm with Mesa. I think his thoughtful response to kenkneeb's rant list fits closely enough with my own impressions that I won't bother with an itemized list of my own. My wife and I both love our MDX. It's our first new car, and although we can afford it, spending this kind of cash for a new vehicle for the first time made us think long and hard, and also scrutinize our purchase carefully.

Also, I'd add that there is an important lesson to be learned by kenkneeb's frustrating experience with his MDX. Make a check-list of things that are important to you, and examine the car closely before you buy one. I think at least 80% of the complaints found in his many posts could have been identified at the time of a test drive. In fact, many could have been determined by sitting in a vehicle in a showroom or auto show.

He might disagree, but I think that there's no such thing as a perfect vehicle. I might like the handling of a Ferrari, but it probably won't fit my budget or be very practical in other respects. Figure out what trade-offs are important to you, and find the best fit. For us, the MDX was it, and we're thrilled (1200 miles later). Good luck!

Some people are annoyed at the little things. Some people just are just fine with the little annoyances and find it easy to swallow and say well, that's life. However, when we're talkin $40K of my hard earn money, and I'm the one annoyed and more than little things, I'll be the one with the Zenon Spotlight standing at the street corner expressing myself.

I guess that's why I started my own business 20 years ago, didn't get married or have kids till I was over 40 and don't regret any of those decisions. Kind of an indidual, or a a good friend said of me, " A custom suit guy (I hate suites) in an off the shelf kind of world".

I guess what really boils me is despite all of the reading I did and all of the raves, Car of the Year, SUV of the Galaxy, etc. beginning in the summer of 2000 and having outgrown our 4Runner and needed more space to haul more kids in comfort, and having the "luck" of our local dealer having the mesabeige w/touring become avail. in early October, 4 months before any other MDX might come our way, a woman who pre-ordered the above mesabeige in the summer cancelled her order and the rig became available. Having read all of the hype, driven the competition, to a greater or lesser degree and having a 24 hour window (versus a 4 month wait) show up in my face I decided to take the plunge, reasoning to myself, HEY THIS IS AN ACURA, THEY STARTED FROM SCRATCH IN THIS PUPPY, WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.

Then we took our first 6 hour trip to California and the kicking of the back of my seat occurance began by my 2 1/2 year old. This NEVER happened in our 4Runner. Then the floaty, I'm not in control, mushy, dreaded Michelin experience took hold, not to mention the first ever, hopefully never to be repeated multi-hurling episodes by the same 2 1/2 year old, due to this rigs soft, squishy, THIS IS YOUR FATHER'S CADILLAC (my father never had a caddy) ride and body roll, but I've driven a few - they still suck!, undifferentiated ride, and the unplanned trip to the dealer in California to ask if the power steering went out because the rig felt like it was out of control only to be told everything was normal.

I respectfully submit TOROPOOP (that'd be Bull**** for those not familiar with the latin derivation).

I bought my ticket and took my chances. Like old Forrest Gump said, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get", or some such. However I do know what I'm not going to get and that's another MDX for me.

I'll wait until the BMW X5L comes out or take my chances on the Audi allroad quattro twin turbo - At least the Germans aren't newcomers on to how to construct a vehicle with the driver in mind.

I'll vote with my wallet, but I really rather would have been suitably impressed/ no INSPIRED by this vehicle so that I can proudly tell the gobs of people who come and ask me how the MDX, "I'm really impressed with the thoughtful design, the pin drop quietness at highway speeds on the rough Interstate 5 roads (cement, you know) the slot car handling, the gas mileage, and the excitement I feel everytime I sit behind the driver's wheel". Now I just that there are some major annoyances that keep me from recommending it to anyone. Quite the opposite feelings I express to people about our previous 4Runner or my '94 525 BMW.

Just my opinion.

Perhaps Heuy Lewis said it best, "Aint no livin' a perfect world, aint no perfect world anyhow". Doesn't deter me from my goal, my vision, my vocal nature or my fingers from pressing these keys. I do believe all of this makes a difference. If only for me. Thoughts have power when they are given form and allowed to breathe the freedom of expression.

Evolve I must, alone or with others. The choice is not mine. It's my fate.

Enjoy your vehicle, however you take that metaphor. I'll endeavor to do the same.

kenkneeb

Ken,

You are seemed to demand the best of everything. A perfectionist. Just hope you would not apply your principles in the area of raising your children. Otherwise, at times you would very disappointed and so would your children. Sincerely yours!
My children are perhaps the closest thing to perfection that exists. Lovely little mirrors they are of not only what we have taught them but also they embody a surprisingly complex set of social and "animal" behaviours. Helping guide them to explore themselves and their nature is constant work in progress, as I'm sure you know, if you have children.

However, the act of paying attention to the obvious details that exist in life has nothing to do with perfection, it has to do with being aware, being open, being receptive, not tuning out, but tuning in. Engineers who embody these skills are children who have grown up not forgetting the joys of placing objects in a "natural" arrangement, logical some say. I just call it common sense. Unfortunately, it's not all that common.

Children are masters of saying what is in front of them. From this point of view, I learn from my kids daily.

I expect them to "Make Mistakes", but I also expect them to pay attention and if they show an insensitivity or talk or act in a manner that is hurtful, it's time for a talk or some other intervention. I don't just ignore the behaviour and pretend like it isn't there. Just like I don't ignore the MDX's limited door opening headroom everytime I get into the driver's seat. Otherwise I'd end up with a headache.

One breath at a time, I remain... learning every day

This has been a challenge. Thank you for your comment.

kenkneeb

Ken...

Just curious... What is your business? Maybe if you explain a little about yourself, basic stuff, not Top of the Line Dale Carnegie BS, we would understand better.

What is your business? Where is your business? I would love to see and experience this perfect business. Where did you buy your car from? How was that experience?

I started my importing, sales and marketing company 20 years ago after finding a popular consumer safety product a personal reflective device) in wide use, in Sweden, while finishing my Bachelor's Degree in Product Design. Prior to my getting involved with this product the manufacturer had already sold a 1/2 a Billion of these throughout Europe and Scandinavia. with this there. That's Billion with a "B", prior to my getting involved with the product.

This personal reflector, which people wear when they walk, run, bike, at night, allows the wearer to be easily seen. An exclusive attachment method I designed allows the reflector freely rotate thus appearing like a strobe lght to an oncoming vehicle. This reflector's coefficient of retroreflectivity was so high that it allows the wearer to be seen by the oncoming motorist over a 1/4 mile away on the highway and 600 feet away in the city. This product was the easier to use than reflective tape, no sewing involved and could be easily moved to different pieces of clothing by virtue of the exclusive, proprietary attachment method I put together. My first customer, the largest bank in the state where I lived, not only bought 100,000 units and, through my orchestration agreed to give them away, free of charge, to every school age child in the state through a State Troopers Safety Program. The first customer received such overwhelming positive feedback and proceeded to obscond with the reflector/Trooper Safety program idea and intetie (Apparently the marketing ma. Kenny B

You come across as a loquacious malcontent who can't keep his/her mouth closed long enough so others around you can breathe. As the saying goes: "Empty vessels make the most noise".
Your endless complaints are making life miserable for others around you and for yourself ,in case you hadn't notice. You seem so caught up in negativity that what you perceive as a quest to perfection is merely an excercise in self-indulgent BS.
So you finally found a medium where you are almost guaranteed an audience, preying on the readers' vulnerabilties.
I am sure you are the center of attention at parties!!!!

Excellent answer, newjack. You said it much better than I would have.

Actually, most of what KenkneeB detailed as problems, I personally had listed them as positive points. I cannot believe that any thinking person would purchase a vehicle, have that many gripes AND STILL KEEP the machine.

I certainly wonder what KenkneeB's physical attributes are?

My wife and I fit into our Mesa Beige base/navi MDX beautifully and we love it, but, too, we are normal people.

KenkneeB, I view your entire list of problems as BS....as I AM an owner of an MDX.
Hmmmm...as I ponder the meaning of Kenkneeb's statement

Don't you mean exposing yourself since you'd be under a spotlight. Also, the only true Wind Noise associated with an MDX is what you [kenkneeb] continue to post in this forum.

In an abstract way, I'll miss you kenkneeb. I had thought you were making progress as the tone and content of your posts had been improving recently. But alas, in your last few posts I (and apparently everyone else) noticed a huge back slide. I am curious though... As the President of a company, are you as meandering in your thoughts during meetings and internal and external communication? In my business, neither my colleagues nor customers would tolerate me using the sheer number of words that you do in attempting to convey a point. And you never did respond to my challenge of saying one nice thing about the MDX.
You know Barry, I don't recall you asking me what I liked about our rig? Couldn't find your request anywhere, but obviously it must go along with my condition, you know!

But I'll try really hard now. Here, I found it. What I liked most about the MDX is what I read about it. How everybody oozed and heaped accolades. Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket.

blah, blah, blah.

Since you obviously can't discount my experience, y'all have taken to attacking me personally. How small, sad, shallow and boring this has all become.

Ken B.

I have been gone for a few days so I had to go back and reread the thread. You started out responding to someone who asked for advice on what to look out for with respect to problems. Altough, your post was obviously an outlet to a load of pent up frustration, you actually answered the person's questions with your opinion. Some if not all of your issues made me laugh. You talk about possibly getting you fingers stuck in the latch? Huh? HAHAHA! I thought, he's kidding...but then YOU went on about spending $1500 for sound proofinf (another brilliant move!) You then decided to go personal and talk about your life experiences, your kids, etc, etc.

I don't believe in personal attacks by "Computer Bravery" but I will tell you sir that I am an Engineer that must also have an eye for detail. However,I also have an eye for those that try desperately to justify their mistakes by bringing out the most anal retentive crap they can come up with in order to cloud the real issue. These people get in the way of getting the job done and progress because they usually have a sad personal agenda.

Your personal agenda does not interest me in the slightest. I am interested in problems that others are having with their vehicles and the sharing of information to help each other out. I have learned very much from this forum. I drove or looked seriously at the other "luxo" SUV's and I made an informed intelligent decision. I am quite happy with that decision and enjoy my car more everyday. You however did not. So my advice is to quite blaming others for your inadequacies, trade in the MDX on either a Mini Van, or a BMW540 (so at least you can impress your friends) and enjoy.

You did not have to tell me you started your own business. It would have been easy to guess..most people who blame the world for their problems usually fail in the real world. Good luck...
LOL.

Good thing you weren't a therapist or HR personal because your analysis of my personality/success in life couldn't be further from the truth.

But, sadly, once again you stoop, like others in this increasingly incestuous little haven have, when their "MDX-Sacred Cow and It's Designers" are criticized,
to shooting the messenger. Unless you designed the bloody vehicle, why do any of you take this personally.
Boundaries anyone. Perhaps I picked on too easy of a target, Lazy Design! God know, there no shortage of that anywhere.

I won't bore your sad little "pleasure party" anymore. Might be more sand in the vaseline than you all can handle."

Fiddle away, narcissist one and all

There is a place to share persoanl attacks on each other and that is in private messages - let's try and keep these boards free from rancor.
I am not into personal attacks (unless they are light-hearted) nor unnecessarily defending the MDX. My point in this and most of the other posts on the subject of nit picking whining is that the MDX is what it is and no more. It IS a nice SUV with plenty of utility. It meets my needs perfectly. IT IS NOT a Ferrari, a BMW540, or a Lincoln Continental or perfect. If one is stupid enough to purchase a vehicle and then whine about every little thing, I WILL respond. There are well over 600 members now and mindless ranting about ones careeer, kids, etc is nothing but a waste of bandwidth. I do not care to search through the garbage looking for a gemstone.

If that's too much for anyone to bear, I suggest they go whine elsewhere. I will acept and respect constructive criticism, I will not tolerate endless whining and peresonal agendas. Getting you fingers stuck in the door latches? That's almost as idioitic as wanting a "safety" feature to keep your head from getting stuck in the moonroof!!!!

To anyone that is offended by my 'directness' I apologize, for the rest of you normal folks, let's get back to the real purposae of the forum. I am done with this...
To paraphrase Voltaire, "If kenkneeb didn't exist, we would have to invent him."

Sure, he's wordy, a tad arrogant, and he rushed into buying the MDX without a careful evaluation (unlike most of us, who explored this forum carefully while pondering our alternatives). But he has had his moments of clarity and even reason (mixed in with a bunch of crap).

Mos importantly, though, he's given a bunch of us motivation to get on our soapboxes and tell everyone how wrong he is (and how much we love our MDXs). For that, we should be thankful. I think I'll actually miss him (if and when he finally keeps his promise and stops posting).

Ah, Kenny, we hardly knew ye.

Since we are all quoting distinquished folks from the past, I wonder what Will Rogers would have said if he met kenkneeb??:D

kenkneeb: I agree with MesaBeige. You've expressed your opinions on very many occasions, in many forums on this site. I didn't say anything, since it's a message board, you're entitled to whatever opinions, philosophies, feelings or believes you might have either towards the MDX or towards life in general.

So, I ask you from now on to stick to private messaging, as you no longer provide any value to our readers.

Perhaps a little self-control by the other posters would have alleviate these problems.

Note To Admin:

I'm not the one that began the flaming. Too little self control on their part.

Also, since the other posters have turned off their private messaging features, I have no other recourse but this feeble board, do us all a favor and just make it inaccessable to kenkneeb if it pains you so. It wouldn't pain me in the least. And while you're at it, have your service stop posting messages to my email address. This is absurd.

Fat, happy and lovin' it.

I'll raise ya one Amen...let's go for (3) Amen, Amen, Amen...with one 'hot air' deflector.

Ganug already. I rest my tirade.

Be Happy.

Remember everyone is different. So is every car.
Every car has its own crowd of fans. Simple as that.

MDX is not the best, it is certainly far from the worst.

Take Pontiac Aztek for example. This car can't even reach half of its projected sales number, which is similar to what Acura can produce MDX in the first year. You could probably find as much flaw in that car as you could find in MDX if not more.

If one had bought a car and later found it is not what he/she expected it to be, it's fine, you may blame it on yourself for not selecting carefully, you may also blame the maker for not designing up to spec. You did what you want to do on this forum to warn/alert other owners and potential buyers. Your effort is appreciated.

You may find some people agree to your opinion but probably you find more who disagree with you. This is natural reaction to a mostly negative opinion 'cause this is an MDX forum.

It seems to me what you want to achieve here is to change other people's opinion towards MDX. Whether the change is for good or for bad, I don't think it is the right thing to do.

Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, certainly you can have yours. You expressed it, people heard it, now you are done with your business.

As I said, every car will find its own fans, don't be surprised and don't try to change that fact. Be generous and let there be difference. Show yourself as a mature person.
Ken, you've been lying for several weeks now that you have posted your last message on this forum. My momma taught me that when you tell someone you will do something and you don't then they are liers. My grandfather taught me that if you tell someone you will do something and you don't do it then their word is no good so have nothing to do with them. So Ken, your lying words are worthless so good day.

By the way I recommended that you sell your MDX ASAP over a week before remery did. Please sell it quickly and go away.
Amen, Amen, Amen!
Go in Peace and don't come back.

Time flies when your having fun, kenkneeb's only been posting on this site for 8 days!

I remember in my Bible SS Classes that the Jewish way of reckoning time is to count partial time lapses as complete ones ;)(hence 25 hrs is two days). So I guess we could count 8 Days as Two Weeks - sure seems like it!!

But that makes his several (at least 4) posts that he was leaving even the more incredible.
It seems like has really caused quite a stir on this forum! He enjoys all the attention you're giving him that he refuses to

hold on a minute people... Let's not get into the religious comments...

That was uncalled for.
Can we all please get back to the original question? I've been reading post after post trying to see if anyone answered this question after all this bickering. For those of us who are waiting for our MDX's or who just received theirs, would those of you who want to, please answer the question, and remember everyone has their own opinions. Thankyou in advance.

I concur with MesaBeige on most. I also think Kenkneeb did a very good job pointing out some details. I find, as did MesaBeige, that the positioning on armrests, console and most controls to be a very good match for my dimensions (6', 180 lbs.).

My main frustration is that it has three 12v power outlets and none of them work with the ignition off. This makes them useless for charging my cell phone.

I don't think this is a design flaw. I think this is a philisophical difference.

Most domestic cars leave the power outlet (cigarette lighter) on ALL the time.

Most Japanese cars do not.

Why the difference? If you happen to leave something plugged in that really drains the battery (say a laptop computer, etc) you will come out the next morning to a dead car battery.

I generally like it functioning this way. I charge my phone at home in the base stand, and quick charge it (if needed) while I'm driving (with the engine running). Plus most digital phones these days with LI-Ion batteries last for days.

Again, it's just a different philosophy.
I think Acura and Toyota engineers too, must not think we're qualified to plug in our cell phones to charge them with the vehicle/ignition all the way off. I believe that takes an engineering degree from friggin Electron University. Just another example of people who don't use the products they design. Sloppy, tired and just plain ol' lazy logic.

Oh and did I say that this rig is as about as noisy as our '79 ford courier/mazda. Hello, can anybody hear me over this rash of road noise with no acoustic dampening for a shell of a vehicle. WAKE UP and smell the decibels!!!
I'm am out.
Hey, Kenny, I thought you said you installed acoustic padding in your MDX?
Good memoré Cremé:

As I very expensively (is that a word?) found out $1500 later, unfortunately for me and my checkbook, no amount of acoustic dampening material in/on the inner body surfaces can mitigate the omission by Acura engineers to decouple the wheel/tire/bearing interface from the body cavity. So whether you have the material installed is, well, immaterial. HAH!

As I've already pointed out, check out the $20K mitsubishi montero (don't roll the sucker) just listen to what a fantastic job their engineers did in decoupling the above mentioned noise, vibration and harshness issues. Their rig (not that I would ever buy one) is extremely well isolated from the truck box compared to the vehicle that Acura has produced. Just an observation.

Thank our lucky stars, no front end clunking, no water drips, hey Acura even paid to replace the tires so now when we take long trips, NOBODY THROWS UP because of the wiggly jiggly Michelin fatsos have left da vehicle!!! Vomit comet no more. YEAH!!!

Thank g-d it's my wife's daily ride or I'd have rid myself of the clunker long ago. Now I just pay no attention, like the crazy aunt in the basement (what crazy aunt?) until I need to get behind the wheel for a long family trip.

Then, of course, the proper medication goes a long way to helping me forget not to jump into buying a new model of a vehicle until the dealership has enough of them to allow a thorough test drive. My bad. Mea culpa.

Oh yeah, and on the 12 volt on when the vehicle is off issue, here's a bit of blinding logic. HOW ABOUT A FRIGGIN' IDIOT SWITCH SO YOU COULD CHOOSE WHEN YOU'RE TOO STUPID TO REALLY WANT THE sockets 'hot' or not when the rig is powered down.

Nah, we're probably not qualified to make that decision. What in the heck was I thinkin.

you guys take yourself so seriously, come on now.
Oh no, help us! This is like a scene out of "Night of the Living Dead"...
I never read KenkneeB's posts without smiling :):) and that's a GOOD thing.
In reverse order,

- We don't take ourselves seriously. This is just serious fun.

- What makes you think that if someone forgets to unplug a device which will drain the battery, that they will remember to have the switch in the right position?

- Why on Earth would anyone as discriminating as yourself ever buy a car without properly evaluating it first. You are old enough to know that you would just be setting yourself up for disappointment. Sounds like a touch of masochism, esp. since you admit to still having the car!

- Did they end up paying for your tires, or half, as you had said before? That's quite a thing to request a tire refund. I don't think I would be able to keep a straight face. All I would be able to think of was "The Princess and the Pea".

- Apparently Mitsubishi was so very successful decoupling the noisy components from the body at the expense of safety. There is a balance between handling and sensory feedback that you will get from any design. Race cars have very unpleasant rides, and anechoic chambers don't handle very well.

Just curious, what cars have you owned that you would say that you were fondest of (if any)?

JW,
If Nebraska, makes cell phone use while driving illegal like New York you won't need to recharge your phone in the MDX.:D:D
In acending order now, let us pray:

Creamie's QUESTION: 1. What makes you think that if someone forgets to unplug a device which will drain the battery, that they will remember to have the switch in the right position?

My Reply: 1. Choice is good. If you followed your logic, then you ought to weld, in the 'off' position all light switches which can manually operated, therefore left on, when the key is out of the ignition. But wait, there's more, you ought to weld the doors shut, or at least make them auto lock, because someone might leave a door 'ajar' which would also keep a dome/footwell light on thereby draining the battery. Oh Lordy, protect us from our stupidity. FOCUS ON THE VEHICLE, NOT ME.

Creamie's QUESTION/COMMENT: 2. Why on Earth would anyone as discriminating as yourself ever buy a car without properly evaluating it first. You are old enough to know that you would just be setting yourself up for disappointment. Sounds like a touch of masochism, esp. since you admit to still having the car!

My Reply 2. Proper evaluation, yeah great in theory. I bought my rig when the dealership wouldn't even let me drive the touring package unit because it was a 6 month wait "special order". Hah, Hah, proper evaluation, Yeah, looks good on paper, like the "O" rings for the Atlantis space shuttle that Morton-Thiokol built without taking into consideration the early morning near freezing temperatures which cause their "THOROUGHLY EVALUATED" "O" rings to shrink like winky in the cold.
Whoopsie, Ride Sally Ride. OY now.
FOCUS ON THE VEHICLE, NOT ME.

Creamie's COMMENT: 3. Did they end up paying for your tires, or half, as you had said before? That's quite a thing to request a tire refund. I don't think I would be able to keep a straight face. All I would be able to think of was "The Princess and the Pea".

My Reply 3. Details, Details: Acura paid for 1/2 of the replacement costs of the tires and then sent me a "We Love You Customer" letter paying for my 7500 mile service. Do that response thoroughly quench your lust for detail. Once again, FOCUS ON THE VEHICLE, NOT ME. Oh and by the way, your keeping the straight face comment is not only uncalled for, but inaccurate. The reality is that the new tires kept my daughter's face straight because she didn't, nor did the rest of us, have to contend with the E Ticket ride bounciness of the jiggly mobile. Once again, for those challenged individuals, FOCUS ON THE VEHICLE, NOT ME.

Creamie's COMMENT: 4. Apparently Mitsubishi was so very successful decoupling the noisy components from the body at the expense of safety. There is a balance between handling and sensory feedback that you will get from any design. Race cars have very unpleasant rides, and anechoic chambers don't handle very well.

My Reply: 4. It's an analogy. Here, let me illustrate the point differenty... The 1996 Toyota 4 Runner we traded in, transmitted minimal wheel, tire, drive train noise, vibration and harshness. We thoroughly enjoyed this reliable vehicle, but it became too small for the family.
The 4 RunnerIt wasn't a race car nor an anechoic chamber. FOCUS ON THE VEHICLE, NOT ME.

Creamie's QUESTION: 5. Just curious, what cars have you owned that you would say that you were fondest of (if any)?

My Reply: 5. See above Toyota response above and... a '94 525 BMW, handles the way I like a vehicle to handle. Beautiful ride, begs to be thrown into corners (especially with the Dunlop SP 5000's on it). However, handled like a fat dumpling when I put Michelin MXV4's on so I yanked them off and brought them back to Costco for a refund. FOCUS ON THE VEHICLE, NOT ME.

So there you have it.

enough already,

Once again, FOCUS ON THE VEHICLE, NOT ME.

just one man's opinion.

How can we, you don't specifically mention MDX in any of your posts and as Crem said we have serious fun in this forum!:D:D

By the way are you anywhere near Sierra Acura, I think there's a way to put all your bad MDX kharma to good use!;)

 Now I get it. The Acura engineers just want us to be safe. We should leave these phones at home so they don't pose a threat to safe driving. Besides, it was getting difficult to talk on the phone, drive, and punch in locations on the Navi at the same time! :D:D
Well, a very fine morning to you Mr. 'kneeb!

What the heck made you think I was focusing on you? You "focus on you" enough for everybody. Anyone who has read your previous posts in this thread knows about your wife and kids, your education, your business, your distain for the MDX, your other cars, etc., etc. Not that anyone asked, understand.

You just miss the point of this being fun and always slide off into a dialog of muckraking and indignation.

This board is as much about people as it is the MDX; this is a community. We get to know each other, develop some sort of respect for one another, and poke fun at one another. This is the way normal people relate. Your anal-expulsive behavior is not well received.

BTW, that would be the Challenger. :(

You guys are HILARIOUS!

You take the opinion of someone who suggested a Mitsubishi Montero seriously?

I guess some people hate noise - I myself prefer not to flip over at more than 15 MPH.

Dear Creamy and the ilk:

Since you have no use for me, and I have no use for you, let's just call the marriage off. Oh and I had such hopes for our offspring too.

Jeez Creamy, berate, berate, berate.
Sounds like ADHD to me.

Captain, better order up another lobotomy and a pint of ritilin. This guy just can't focus on the subject, which, if anyone cares to remember, is the MDX.

Kenkneeb, welcome back, long time no hear!!!

Thank God, you haven't changed!

Anyway, MDX and problems - aaah, what a beautiful combination of words! :) How can a perfect SUV have problems...

Anyway, I remember you being the only other one who appeared to have a vomit-inducing MDX. Did anything change?

If you remember, DMor advised me to stock up on ReliefBands, but buying 6 of them is a pricey proposition... 2 that I have work fine, but they are NOT a real solution.

Anyone else who reads this post and wants to know what I am writing about, do a search for "motion sickness". If you or your family members are motion-sickness-prone and you are awaiting your MDX, you may be in for a rude [and smelly] awakening... :(
