Form Fit Front Air Deflector - Groupbuy - Click HERE for Original Thread

The last time this was offered as a group buy it went for $89.
Note this isn't the cheesy one offered by Acura. It is by Form Fit of Canada, and requires no drilling! It follows the contour of the hood nicely, and is in a dark smoke color and only rises up about 1/2" from the hood, and contours nicely to the hood's shape. It is in a smoke tint, and is nice because the only thing that actually goes against the paint is the two rubber bumpons in the corners to prevent contact with the hood, as oposed to two adhesive towers that stick on the paint to hold the OEM one on. This is good for you Zaino folks out there, remove then apply. So, taking this one on and off as needed would seem to be less of a big deal. Besides, it costs much less than the factory.

I think if we can get together 14 more it should be a go with Tim.

Remember it is bug season and alot of construction is going on as well, especially in the NorthEast...

Anyone else??

:D
Here is a pic of Warzau's MDX with it attached.

COOL my X is being used a referance :2: FYI if you want to take off the silver " form fit " on the deflector, I used Meguire's (s.p.?) Scratch X. It is mainly for light scratches which I used all the time since my X is Black but it took off the word form fit, you have to work on it a bit. But the end results are great.

You lost me there. The Form-Fit bumpons are meant to stick on the paint too. Not that it's a problem, it's still a great deflector. Maybe you mean on the Acura one the adhesive towers (?) are in constant contact with the paint AND the deflector?

If you want to do a GB on anything, you have to contact Daniel first before you start a thread.

Just wondering - is the Air deflector a good deterrent against paint dings from rocks or other road debris ? Also, does it get in the way of opening and closing the hood (getting at the safety latch to open, placement of hands when closing) ? Does it need to be removed if you take the 'X in for service or if you were to go through a car wash ?

1) it helps
2) no, not at all
3) no, not at all

I do clean under it with a thin cloth.. I don't go through car washes. But it can handle a car wash with no problem.
It is not the type of thing you would take off and on. It is screwed on, and uses tapping screws, so after a while things could loosen up if you constantly took it off and on.

1) it helps, it certainly protects the front of the hood from all that and may deflect some smaller objects headed for the windshield.

Count us in, just purchased a Silver MDX.

I always thought that the main reason for the deflectors is to reduce marks from Kamikaze bugs. I just returned from a trip to Florida which involved an extended night run through the outbacks of the Florida Panhandle. Needless to say, I collected an impressive entomology display on the front of RoadRunner but ALL were down low on the front, well below where a deflector would fit and none on the hood. I got some on the windshield but I'm not concerned about that - I carry Windex and paper towels in the back and use them routinely at all gas stops - bugs or not. Anyway, now I'm curious about just how much good these things do ....... other than looking cool.

I live in the Northeast, where frost heaves routinely leave the highways (freeways for MDX'ers) rather choppy. The result is that it is the norm for stones and pebbles to get kicked up from vehicles (esp trucks) driving ahead. I can only say, that in the five months that my front deflector has been on, it has received a number of direct hits. There are several scratches and dings to testify to this. Meanwhile, my hood has only one very minor chip (which I easily repared with touchup paint and lots of Z5) and my windshield has gone unscathed.

I would suggest that there is real value to the thing, and that it will be a whole lot less expensive to replace periodically then a hood.

As for bugs, yup, they seem to like to end it all on the bumper and license plate.

Finally the first baby is delivered. :D

It is time to order the deflector from TIM.....

Tim, Tim, are you there now??? Hopefully one day I could be online before the GB is over while Tim is on the net.

I love the looks of the hood deflector and it seems like it would be practical as well. Just wondering if any of you experienced extra wind noise or rattles or any other "motion" type problems from it?

thanks,

I have had mine on for about 5 months now. No noise or rattles at all. Just several dings from deflections of stones or other debris that would have hit my hood!

Just installed mine last week, took about 30 minutes start to finish. No extra wind noise whatsoever . . . in fact you will hardly notice it's there unless you glance down at the front of the hood. At first I thought the clips would get in the way of the hood closing, but the 'X has a very innovative way of sealing the hood when closed. Only thing is I haven't decided the fate of the 'Formfit' logo on the right corner of the deflector - many members had them removed, not sure, may just leave it for now.

Thanks for the info Maik and socal! I'm gonna have to get in on this group buy....just gotta talk the spouse into it. He just ordered a Hidden Hitch and Yakima bike rack for the X.

It is very easy to install it. Once I got all the tools, it takes approximately 10 minutes to get it up and looks GREAT. I didn't notice there is any noise increase. My brother said this is a great car, he could only feel the COMFORT and no notice NOISE today. :2:

I received the deflector. Thanks again Tim.

Now I'm in a bit of a quandry. After my friend installed to Acura OEM deflector, I didn't like it. I proceeded to get the formfit. Now the OEM has grown on me. I still think that the formfit would look better, but now I'm less motivated to uninstall the OEM and install the formfit.

Will there be any paint finish ramifications???
