Tim (Hondacuraworld) is announcing a group buy for Touring Wheel for $180 (regular $200, with list price $250). Tim will honor the group buy if we get 10 people. Please use our group buy interface to enroll into this group buy. Use this thread for discussions only.
This group buy will run till August 8th. Enjoy!

| Perfect timing - count me in !!! What are the chances that we can get a deal on the OEM Michelin tire if we order in conjunction w/the rim ??? and to think I was considering a base rim for a F/S spare . . .   |

A typo or the shortest group buy ever? |

| Click on the link to the group buy counter and it shows 8-8-2002, so it must be August 8. I would also be interested in a package to include the Michelin tire. |

| Me 2 is hoping to get a rim/tire pkg deal. Will it be possible? What do you say Tim? |

I take it the purpose of this is to replace the rinky-dink OEM spare? Will a full-size spare fit in the MDX spare compartment? I would also love the package with the Michelin tire.

How will the full size spare effect the tire rotation process? With a full size spare, don't you normally rotate the spare?
If so, Does anyone know if the Michelin's are directional tires or not? Just something to think about when purchasing the tire/wheel combo. |

I am not planning on rotating the F/S spare - however when it is time to replace the original tires I plan on keeping the best (least wear/tear) as the spare and replacing the other 3 tires and using the F/S spare as the 4th - saving me 25% on the purchase of the new tires.:2:  :p |

| Michelin tire is $160 including shipping from tire rack. I checked at a couple of local tire stores, and both said they could order the tire at $206 and $175, respectively. I also checked with BJ's Wholesale club and their price was $152 including stem, balancing, etc. Seems to be the best deal around. |

$122 at 1010tires.com $141 with shipping. |

| Does costco sell the michelins? |
|
|

Tim's regular price is $142 for the Michelin, shipped . . . was hoping I could coax a better price if ordered with the touring rim in this GB  :p ;)
BTW, Costcos here in SoCal do not carry this size of Michelin CrossTerrain although they seem to carry just about any size of the MXV4 M+S tires . . . I believe they will mount and balance a tire on your rim for $9 if you're a member . . . |

Then another $10 to have someone mount on rim and balance etc.
BJ's price looks real good, unless Tim can come up with an attractive "mounted tire" deal...say $320 mounted and shipped.. |

That would certainly be the best deal. The $122 was cheap enough for me since I bought a 'like new' Touring wheel for $150 including shipping. |

I recall from another thread (in Accessories) that Tim is not keen on shipping tire mounted on rim. Something to do with the post- delivery wheel balancing ....
Check it out. I believe that thread was started as a HAW monthly special. |

| Actually, I am only looking for a break on the Michelin tire in conjunction with the touring rim on this group buy - not mounted & balanced. I figure with the Firestone/Exploder (sic) issue, Tim does not need the legal headache when shipping a rim+tire across the country. Hoping that the savings in packaging & shipping warrants a 'good' price on the CrossTerrain . . . Are you listening Hondacura World ??? :p   |

BTW does the $180 include shipping? It wasn't clear from the GB.
Thanks

Yup, all items quoted by Tim include shipping, UPS ground if I'm not mistaken, only difference is folks on the east coast will get their goodies sooner than us out on the left coast . . . at least we will save on sales tax, which in SoCal is a 8.25% discount :2::eek: :2: |

I just placed an order last Friday [e.g. 7/5] for a Touring Rim and a Michelin [plus some other stuff].
Not Fair ... Not Fair ... Not Fair ... Not Fair :8:
Oh well, Tim's regular prices are really good anyway. So I guess that I will simply have to settle for a really good price instead of a steal!!

| Isn't the touring wheel the same size and the standard wheel? If so what are you gaining by buying the touring wheel? |

If you have a touring model, you would want a touring spare if something happened to one of your other wheels.
Base and Touring wheels cost the same as far as I know. |

According to Tim, both rims cost the same on his website - therefore if you already have the touring rims why not get the matching rim in case you want to rotate the spare in a 5 tire rotation or simply replace a worn or flat tire with the spare ? Besides, the touring rim just got cheaper with this GB. Now if you have base rims, it obviously is not an advantage to buy the touring rims unless you were looking to upgrade. |

I'm here, I'm here, just hadn't had chance to reply to this thread.
The Michelin tire is $142.00 shipping included, and I couldn't go any lower on that price if I wanted to (and I always want to :) ).
So what's our count at here? I'd like to place some rims on my order today, but have no idea how many to get ??? |
|
|
| admin |
| Tim, according to the home page, the count is exactly 10. |
|
|

| Then let the GB be open! Start calling at your convenience  |

Tim,
I am going to order the touring rim from you soon. If I get the Michelin tire as well, are you able to MOUNT and BALANCE it, then ship to us????

| Unfortunately, no....I'm too leery about shipping damages sicne I really don't have boxes big enough to pack it in as an "assembly". |

| Called Tim today and ordered over the phone. Touring rim with Mich. OEM tire. Includes tax and shipping. Tim was out of tires but would have them next week. Very quick and easy, and a great deal to boot. |

Spoke with Tim the other day and Tim HAD ALREADY GIVEN ME the group buy price even though I had ordered BEFORE the group buy started!!
So need to retract my "Not Fair" comment and replace with:

I just got my touring rim today, and have a few questions:
1. shouldn't the new rim come with a center cap ? (acura logo)
2. box was del'd open, maybe mishandled by UPS, should I be concerned with scratches on the back of rim ? (front looks fine)
3. I know the Michelins are on back order, any idea when they will ship out ? |
|

| If you would have bought one of my base rims you would have gotten no scratches on either side, a center cap, and a valve stem:-) |

And if I would have shorted all my tech stocks last year I would not be concerned with a FS spare - I'd just buy another 'X when I got a flat ! :4: :p :D |

rvehock,
Both socalJD and I have the Touring model. Don't know about socalJD, but I plan to rotate all 5 rims/tires [silly not to use the new rubber]. On our next set of tires, will only buy 4 [best original will become "permanent spare"]. A base rim would look sorta silly [well at least different!] when mixed with 3 Touring rims.
Additionally, I never do the right thing at the right time. In another post, I mention that I am very successful at buying high and selling low, buying just before the sale, yada yada yada.
To PROVE my natual ability, I ordered [bought] the Touring rim from Tim on the Friday BEFORE the Group Buy started. Only 'cause Tim is a swell guy [at least $20 worth of swell!!], did I get the group buy price!!
Tim ... if you read this, I was only kidding about you, you are worth at least $62.50 worth of swell.
Ooops ... meant $6,250 !!!! Thought about saying a million, but since I ain't got that kinda loot, wouldn't of meant anything!! |

Center Cap: The rim pricing does NOT include the center cap [standard Honda "convention" on the other Honda rims that I am familiar with]. I am sure Tim will sell you one but what would you do with it? Can't keep it on the 5th rim under the car!!
Rim Scratch: I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be bothered by a scratch on the inside of the rim. No one will ever see it [well, a mechanic might]. Aluminum won't rust. Inside is not clear coated. If the outside is good, you're in business. 2 of my OEM rims have minor imperfections on the outside [looks lilke crap under the clear coat]. I didn't do anything about the imperfections 'cause I am the only one who will EVER notice.
Hope my comments n opinions don't offend ...:13: |

We have just over 1K miles on our X. I, too, have noticed imperfections in the clear coat on our touring wheels. Is this common for the touring wheels? |

When I first got the rim from Tim, I was thinking where is the CENTER CAP. But after a while, I discover if I have a center cap on the rim, where and how am I going to put the spare tire on the car. :o Plus, I am not driving the 'X with 5 tires on the road, so no one else will notice I miss a center cap.
I discovered few scratchs on the rim, but that is after I have the tire mount and balance thru Costco. But none of the scratchs are in the front where people will be notice. So I am very satisfy on my new rim and tire.
This full size spare only cost me $331 ($180 rim + $142 tire + $9 mount & balance). It is cheaper than what I original expected. :)
Thanks Tim~~~~~ :2: |

I placed an order with Tim today for the base rim and ordered an Michelin MXV4 Plus tire from Tire Rack for $93 shipped. I'm going to have Costco mount and balance for $9. What's that...180+93+9...$282!!! Wohoo!! :D Not too shabby...
Thanks Tim for the great deal on the alloy!
BTW, I went with the MXV4 tire because I didn't want a X-terrain sitting as a spare. I see it as a decent compromise between the base Goodyears (yuk..) that I'm running and the X-terrains. When the Goodyears are worn out, I'll be placing X-terrains at all four corners... |

| Whew, I ordered my rim on the last day of the group buy. The days have been slipping by and I kept thinking I had plenty of time. Today when I called, I wasn't really cognizant of the fact that it is Aug 8, I just finally got around to calling early enough in the day that Tim was still there. |
